Weight Loss Doing good, now suddenly I'm gaining. Aug 27 2009

I'm 6-0, weighing 208-210. This morning I skipped the gym for a rest and my weight dropped from yesterdays 212.6 to 2120.2. It's been extremely hot here in CA so I think the gallons of water I've been drinking could be a part of the weight gain. I could drop my calories by a 100 easily if it would work or I could try to go up 100 for a few days. It's hard to meet my 2000 cals due to the healthy choices I've learned to make. Maybe it's just the weight loss catching up due to how fast it's fallen off. Could that be a factor?

My limit is 2000 cals and I'm averaging 1800-1900 per day. I'm weighing in the mornings after 1 & 2, if possible, and the weight is fluxuating for no reason I can find.

Hey, people get jealous. It's sad, but true. I catch myself doing the same thing. I'm in the zone and addicted to the diet and gym so naturally that's what I think and talk about. Before I/we started this we talked a lot about the dinner we we're having tonight or the beers we we're going to pound this weekend. Don't let it get you down. That's what this site is for. Come talk to us. We'll listen and start talking about the same thing.

Congrats on your success! I've lost 34.4 since late May!! 25-30 left to go.

If you're going to get hammered, just do it. You can adjust your calories tomorrow. You're not gonna feel like eating anyway!

I agree with the no bread habit. My diet is similar and is really working. I asked the same question about a week ago and got some great advice from others on the site. I'm getting 90% of my calories from lean proteins, veggies, fruits and good carbs like beans, lentils, yogurt, etc. I am avoiding all processed cards, such as breads, tortillas, sugars, etc. I was having trouble reaching my caloric intake goal when someone recommended trying whey protein powder in fat free milk twice per day, and keeping a jar of natural unsalted peanut butter for days when I need a quick 200-300 calories to meet my goal. It broke my plateau and I am feeling so much better. My energy is back and working out twice as hard. They also recommended, this is up to your discression, having a huge cheat meal evry 10-14 days. They said it stops your body from adapting to your diet and keeps your metabolism up. I still haven't done the cheat meal, it's been 7 days, but I am seriously considering having one this weekend. Good luck!

Motivation how do you get out of bed to workout? Aug 02 2009

I am an early riser. I have to be at work at 6:00 a.m. which means leaving the gym at 5:00 a.m. I get up 5 times a week at 3:40 a.m., get to the gym by 4:00 a.m. and workout for an hour. I do at least 30 minutes of cardio, and whatever time is left I rotate weight training. Sometimes I get up at 3:30 to have a bit of extra time. I know it's tough, but you do get used to it. I've been doing this now for 2 months and actually feel better on workout days then I do if I stay in bed. Most nights I am in bed by 8:30 p.m. It all depends on how bad you want it. Go for it!

I think you're right and I believe I'm going to try it this weekend. I could use a meal of anything I want, as much as I want. I'm thinking that my body has adapted to the diet and I need to jolt my system. I've read in several websites that once or twice a month it's a good thing to have a big cheat meal where you eat your favorite food as much as you want. It's suppose to keep your body guessing. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for the input.

Everyone told me exactly what my Dr. told me. He's as this as a rail and hasn't dieted a day in his life so I wanted your input. I'm going to start weighing every morning, but only counting/logging the one on Friday morning. Thanks so mush for the input. Good luck to you all.

Thank you to everyone who has jumped to help. This website is great. It's nice knowing that you have friends out there who will try to help and advise. I'm going to do what you all said and mix in some calorie dense foods, I'm thinking peanut butter, and get my totals up. I'll let you know how it works. If anyone else has input, by all means keep it coming. THANKS AGAIN.

For the last 3 days I'm still finding myself 400 to 500 calories short and having a yogurt with fruit and some popcorn to get closer. I finished last night with 1450 calories when my limit is 1984. I was stuffed and didn't want to eat more right before bed.

Weight Loss Going Nuts and Need HELP Jul 28 2009

Although I know it's difficult, DON'T WORRY! I did Jenny Craig a couple of years ago and the first 2 weigh ins I gained. Don't let it get you down or make you quit. Just keep following the plans, double up on the water, and make sure you're weighing in at the exact same time and situation each week. The best and most accurate time/situation is to weigh in the morning after you do #1 & #2 and before you eat or drink. Do it the same way every week. Don't weigh too often either. Be strong. Bottom line is this: if you burn more calories then you eat you will lose weight. Look at the goal and not each weigh in. You'll have weeks of gain and weeks of big losses. Hang in there.

Hey Triple,

Congratulations on your decision. You'll find that logging calories using this site is the best way. You'll learn to make better decisions on what you eat. Your going to learn what foods are easy for your body to turn into energy (beans, veggies, oats, and other complex carbs) and your going to learn that the Doritos, Twinkies, and other junk foods are wasted calories that bog you down instead of giving you energy. It's real evident when you start counting the calories and stopping at your calorie limit. I cannot say enough for how this site has educated me on the subject of food and energy.

Keep up the exercise, increase it as you can and eat right. Please save my name and keep in touch. I'll help in anyway I can as will the many others using this site. There's a lot of good people here going through the same thing you/we are. CONGRATULATIONS!

When life long skinny gym rats try to tell you're not pushing hard enough when actually you're going so hard you're about to go into cardiac arrest.

When you're right at the 15 minute mark on your 30 minute treadmill program and you have to pee.

My little pom did the same thing last night. I woke up 3 times to find her wide awake staring at me. She had a rough night. I had to pick her up and phisically take her to the back yard this morning to show her it was over so she could do her business.

Hey fredontoast,

Don't let all of these opinions, and that's exactly what they are, scare you. Sure, if you're able to do high intensity training as a beginner then by all means do it. But don't let people tell you that you're incorrect in doing what you're able to handle. I stick with my original comment. Setting your levels lower and exercising longer will not only burn fat, and get you into better shape, it also won't cause you to need a few days off from being so sore.

Best advice: experiment and find what suits you. No two people are the same. But pace youself. I've seen too many people burn themselves out doing what these people are telling you to do. Hang in there.
