Cow's milk is the perfect food for baby cows. It doesn't do human bodies any good at all. Whether whole, 2%, or skim, dairy consumption has been linked to a myriad of human health conditions including heart disease, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, and breast, prostate, and colon cancer. It's not just the saturated fat in milk that's harmful, but the excessive protein, lactose, and growth hormones (naturally occurring, and added) that cause so many health problems. Soy is a fine alternative, (if you like the taste and don't have any soy allergies or sensitivity), but there are also rice, almond, oat, hemp and coconut milk beverages available. I'm partial to So Delicious coconut milk beverages, because they are not only very tasty, but are high in medium-chain fatty acids, which are good for your heart and overall health. And don't let the fat content scare you. The fat from coconut oil is also reported to assist in weight loss. |

Technically, when you start adding lots of non-fruit ingredients to a smoothie, it starts to become more of a "shake." Having said that, I often add Turtle Mountain's coconut milk ice cream and coconut milk beverage (instead of soy or rice milk) and cashew butter to boost calorie and fat content for my husband, who needs to eat more high-calorie foods. |
