Find a resting metabolic rate calculator on google and find out what your rmr is.  Then plan your calories each day to not go over that amount.  Can you do crunches with the cast on?  Just doing several sets of crunches through out the day so you get some kind of exercise that doesn't require footwork.

Sorry for not posting.  I've been at friends for early holiday parties (as you can see).  I'm already back down to 253, but I did get up to 256 by last thur so that's what I put down.  I really just want to maintain through Christmas, but it'd be nice to loose too.  i'll keep trying my best.

Reading that made my day, how funny.

And exactly where in the Bible does it say not eating meat will send you to hell?  I'm not going to pretend I've read the whole Bible, but I do remember a part in the old testiment saying that people aren't s'pose to eat the blood or fat of animals.  So with all the fat in today's corn fed beef does that mean meat eaters are going to hell?  Probably not, I'm just saying you can pick any part of the Bible and make it sound like anything you want.

It's kind of a bummer I stayed the same the last fews months, but this time last year is when I was gaining 20lbs, so maintaining isn't that bad by comparison.  I'm still going to try hard to break my platue and get into the 240's this month Innocent

Soup.  You can toss almost anything into soup, it's nutritious, cal friendly, and most freeze well so if you make a huge pot you can freeze 1/2 of it and eat it latter so you don't get tired of the same soup for lunch every day.

If you need to get rid of your lettuce make black bean nachos or salad wraps and toss the over ripe bananas into some whole wheat muffins.

Motivation What time of year motivates you to lose weight? Oct 19 2009

I loose weight in the summer, not b/c of how I look in the bathing suit, but b/c I want to spend 1hr+ every day swimming laps so I burn a lot of cals, sadly when winter comes and it gets dark at 5pm I get crazy depressed and just want to eat potatoes and hibernate.  I can't help it, I'm solar powered, but this winter I'm going to try and take 5HTP to see if more serotonin will help me not get depressed.

Motivation I just need to share/vent my struggles Oct 17 2009

Try to eat more beans.  They're high in fiber and protein and they're hella cheap.  To cook them, just soak them in water for about 8 hours (or overnight).  Rise them, then, if you have a crock pot turn it on and let them cook for several hours, if you don't have a crock pot yet, then you can cook them in a regular pot on the stove.  Make sure the water doesn't cook up.  I usually season them w/a little salt, garlic powder (you can find garlic powder for $1 at a lot of stores) and if you can get them, some jalapeno peppers.  A pot of beans can feed your whole family w/o using a lot of money.  If you don't have a big pot yet (b/c you just got a apt) try a slavation army store or maybe a church or even a family member that might let you barrow one.

And GI Jane is right about the oats, regular oats are healthier and cheaper.  I'll keep you in my prayers.  If you need someone to remind you to exercise add me as a friend :)

Motivation If only it was as easy as "getting a salad" ahhh Oct 17 2009

Yeah, and resturant salads are usually just as bad as everything else on the menu.  But if it helps, Olive Garden's Minestrone soup is awsome and cal friendly (just try not to eat too many bread sticks).  You can also try to drag them to subway or quiznos, or some where you can get a lot of veggi's and lean meat.

Otherwise, just try and pick grilled chicken or salmon, something that makes you feel like you're eating (unlike a bowl of lettus and cheese), but at the same time is healthy.  You can also as for a togo box w/your meal so you only eat 1/2 the cals at a time.

Try telling them you can't afford to go out and see if that works better :)

Remember, don't just look at kcals.  Make sure you're getting enough fiber and protein and vitamins, ect . . . if you're missing something it can make you more hungry even if you're getting enough cals.  Do you try to eat several small meals through out the day?  If you're hungry all the time, it might help b/c if you eat a small amount of food and you're a bit hungry, at least you know you can eat again soon b/c you're eating 6 small meals isntead of 3 big ones.

Another thing that helps me is soup.  You can find a low cal, broth soup (not a cream soup), and eat more w/o going up on cals.  That way you get a full stomach feel w/o extra cals.

Weight Loss Am I doing something wrong? Sep 25 2009

It doesn't look like you need to loose any more weight.  22 is a GOOD bmi.

But if you don't like how your tummy looks try pilates; it'll add muscle to your core (the middle part of your body) and that should make it look better.

What do you write?  If you can't tell yet, I'm supposed to be writing now, but I'm procrastinating instead.

 That's a sign of a true writer ;)

My favorite subject to write on is magical realism.  I recently sent a short story in the a mag (1st 5 pages according to their sub guidelines) and they sent back a letter requesting the whole story; I should be printing it right now to send, but I, too, am procrastinating (shame on me!)

Writing is easy.  Getting published is hard.  You have to find a mag or publisher to send your work to, write a cover letter, send the work in, be prepared to get rejected b/c you probably will, ect . . .

b.c. - bathroom
ustacould -- use to be able to.
ruint (sp?) -- ruined
fix'n -- getting ready to do something
yonder -- over there
coke -- any soda (that always confused me)
yunguns or chllins -- children
all y'all -- each and every one of you

The one that seems the weirdest to me is my inlaws don't say feel this, touch this, smell this, they'll say feel of it or smell of it.  ex: my s.i.l. washed her hair with a new shampoo, pointed at her hair and said "smell of it, it smells good."

Some times it's the "innocent" ones that'll surprise you.

But hey, if she looks good and happy and has a great house she could have never bought otherwise, I guess it's not that bad.

i was trying to avoid the blender so that i don't wake up my roomies (who don't have 8am classes lol) but if it will make my protein shake drinkable... i just may have to interupt their sleep. :P

It is worth waking up your roomies to blend it.  My favorite is soy milk, banana, and 1 cup frozen strawberries, but you can do almost anything.  Chocolate protein powders, espresso or coffee, soy milk, and black berries is nice too.

Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine,"  it's not the type of song I normally listen to, but it's been raining and my husbands' been working crazy over time so "ain't no sunshine when he's gone" has been kinda stuck in my head.

I want to punch your dad.  Saying bad stuff about his wife and child and then just grabbing whatever he wants as if to show he's dominate.  Do you have this problem often?  (with him saying mean things?)  If this is a pattern I'd try to stay away from you dad b/c you don't need that crap.  If he was just in a bad mood and it was a 1x thing I'd try to forgive him for being a jerk.

Parents are s'pose to provide and nurish both emotionally and physically, so I think him being mean (taking away from you emotionally) then eating your pizza (taking away from you physically) was just a double combo of shame-on-the-jerk.  But try not to let it bother you.  I'm sorry he said whatever he said to hurt your feelings :(

Weight Loss which diet? Sep 21 2009
06:19 (UTC)

I agree w/Clint.  Diets don't work unless you're just trying to loose 10lbs for your high school reunion.  You need to find a way to eat that you can do for the rest of your life.  And all human beings should eat fruits, veggi's, whole grains, and leguemes reguardless of what eating choices they make.

Young Calorie Counters How I can stop binge eating? Sep 21 2009
01:38 (UTC)
6

I use to try and diet and eat mostly veggi's and get only 1500 cals a day to loose weight as quick as possible.  And EVERY SINGLE TIME I'd do good for a day or two, get rid of a pound or two, then freak out, binge, and gain it back.  Now that I eat 1800-1900 cals I do a lot better!  Track your cals on here and if they seem really low, trying eating 100 or 200 more (in a snack between meals) and see if that helps.

Also the kinda of food you're eating make a big difference.  Eat lots of fruits and veggi's for fiber.  Fiber keeps you feeling more full longer.  Protein does the same thing so eat lean protein.  And when you eat carbs, don't eat white bread, rather eat beans, leguems, and whole grains (like brown rice or quinoa).  They have more protein and fiber -- white bread has high frutose corn syrup instead of nutrients.  Also, don't cut out fat completely.  Just skip out on the french fries and instead saute some veggi's w/extra virgin olive oil.  Fat helps food leave the stomach at a slower pace, so just like fiber and protein it makes you feel more full for longer.  These things also keep your blood sugar more stable and less blood sugar crashes means you won't want to eat junk as much.
