Motivation Yay!!! Lost 11.5 and 7.5 to go! Aug 03 2009
20:51 (UTC)

thanks so much for the replies!!! definitely made me feel good and it's awesome to hear stories from other people, especially people in my weight range in height.

huneebunn, what i do is completely change my lifestyle but i'm better for it. the first week i dropped five pounds (and got that angry thumbs down) because i stopped drinking sodas, started drinking water (so no more water weight) and i go to the gym about an hour after work everyday (nothing intense, just to get moving) and lastly and more importantly i eat better, eat less, and only indulge in those sinful brownies or icecreams occasionally.  i really do pay attention now to how many calories i eat and i pay more attention to what is really a serving.  it's crazy how many servings i was eating before.  also, it was hardest cutting back my servings because my stomach wasn't used to it but after a while it shunk down and got easier to reduce my portions to a healthier amount.  plus, i've learned to slow down, drink a glass of water to fill up a bit more, and really enjoy my meal instead of scarfing it down

Congrats on all the successes everyone!

Mine are:

(1) I'm finally a DOCTOR!!!

(Although not the kind that can save people, or the kind you'd want on a plane during a crisis or anything useful to anyone really.)

(2) I also ran 5 miles today in 90 degree weather instead of chilling on a patio and drinking beers with my friends. I joined them after the run.

Actually, now that I think about it, resisting beer and making myself run in the hot humid yuck today was almost as difficult as getting through grad school. Go me!

ahaha that's awesome. im going to be a doctor too. im still undergrad and graduating in may (still have my 4.0!!!) but i'd be worthless on a stranded island or plane crisis when i get my doctorate as well. i'd put you to sleep though =]

i originally just wanted to read everyone else's vics but figured since i was replying i'd include mine:

my boyfriend is in iraq and so he's either working or working out and i just recently noticed that i've gained a little weight recently (a little eye opener when i did my bmi and found i was on the verge of being overweight although you really cant tell on me) and figured we'd both see each other as new us's. I started the 3rd at 149 and now i'm 142 (5'5"). i've been eating better, not as much and i can tell my stomach is used to eating less so calorie counting is easier now than when i first started, i can tell a difference in so many ways in that i sleep better, run better, even my nails are better (a little weird thing to notice i know but i never knew how just changing a few things would impact so much). i run about 3 miles a day and weight lift and want to work that mileage up. and this weekend im treating myself to a brand new pair of sneakers for running

i'll definitely check out the link. you also made me feel better about the asics i bought. i heard they were for running and thought id give them a try. i have been alternating between two different shoes for a while, that's why i haven't bought them in a while. i just wanted to make sure before i invest so much in some shoes. thanks for the advice about running as well. i'm making sure to take it slow. ive always been a good runner and even when i got lazy i could pick it back up so i hit the 2 miles like nothing but im definitely taking it slow up to the 5. my dad's a exercise fanatic and actually owns a small gym so im trying to get up his level. he's in better shape than me and he's twice my age heh

thanks a lot!!!

that's funny!  I run in a few races a year and it's always the old guys that are blowing past me...must be all that sleep they get :)

Good luck!  One foot in front of the other....

ahahaha =] i know exactly what you mean!!! i usually try to run outside because it's so boring on a track for me, but when i do go do the track there's an old dude who totally dusts me every time i go. my dad's crazy, he'll do 8 or 9 miles a day going about 8 minutes each. ridiculous...

also, thanks for the research. i actually think i'm taking the shoes back. i called up a running store i found online that's in my area and the "look at me run" is free but the shoes are pricey. i guess i'll just have to save up for a bit

Yea, I figured it'd be a little hard to be like "oh these are perfect for you" heh but I don't really have flat or a high arc so I've been using special soles to add to my shoes to also help. my sister in law actually went to a place specially for that. she told me they watched her walk, made her run on a treadmill and everything which is awesome...the downside: im on a college student's budget and cant afford the hundred and something dollars she told me it turned out being...but i'm glad to hear that you've had good experiences with them. which asics do you wear?

yea we're pretty close tciherr.  i'm 5'5" and 149 (well 144 now, yay!!!)

i have my activity level at light activity and was debating on putting it on moderate but it is motivating to add in activities I do =]

but how did you get your number of calories per day? is that what they suggested? because if you're on the lowest setting you hardly get any calories a day since they think you're sitting around all day (i would only be allowed 1,203 a day...sighhh). that's why i have my activity level so i know that im not undereating and making my body think im starving because my calories i burn daily is factored in with how much i eat instead of eating very little because of being set as sedentary and then burning off the little cals i did consume.  i'm just not sure what's the best way is to go about it since i've only been using this site for a week.

also, even if you cut down your calories pretty low, doesn't exercising keep your metabolism up so your body doesn't go into starvation mode?

lmao i figured =]

since i have been working out everyday (doing bout 2 miles for the last three and plan on doing it almost daily and i want to get up to 5...let's see if that'll happen...) i was thinking of changing my activity level to moderate and uping my calories. what do you think? i wanna get in shape but in a healthy way that won't yoyo back.

Hah thanks. I'm pretty excited about this website but I didn't really know the best way to use it. I was wondering what difference I would have to have with the activity versus food meter to get my weekly poundage.  I'm a starting 149 to 130 and I've been trying the 1482 and it's been pretty easy. I'm a little less everyday but I try to squeeze in something heathy (produce is so expensive...). Thanks so much!!!

Fitness whats a "good" time for HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY runners? Jul 04 2009

That's silly for your coach to say that jv won't look good.  Any involvement looks good. I'm a senior in college and got in doing band a few years off and on and was on jv soccer my senior year (I wanted to try something new). I wasn't great but it was fun. That and my grades and SAT I had no problem getting into the one and only college I applied to. So good luck and if you do just make jv that's still awesome and still looks good. Getting into college is serious but they do try to scare the crap out of ya, just like trying to scare the crap out of ya about going into high school heh.
