Couple thoughts...

1st.. you've increased the percentage of your body that is muscle which weighs more.  Do you think you've lost any inches?

2nd..  are you confident that your base is 1,400 calories?  My body became very efficient with calories the more I trained.  I don't burn near as many calories per mile as a non-runner would.

3rd.. have you ever read about the theory that you need to go off diet at least one day a week so your body doesn't go into starvation protection mode?  I think it's true.  I have the best weeks when I have at least one good fattening meal at least one day a week.  I saw the post on CC - very convincing!

Good luck with your marathon!

Well, given I haven't picked up much in 50 years you wouldn't need to gain much to have me beat!

Maintaining Weight fluctuations? Sep 17 2009
19:27 (UTC)

Do you... or did you run more before?  My Sunday, Monday weight is always way down because I'm dehydrated from a long run on Sat.   It always takes me two or three days to get back to the right level of hydration.

I've got to the point that I really only pay attention to my Tuesday weight as it seems the most consistent.

They must load up on water before the first weigh in.  To lose 28 pounds in one week is just about mathematically impossible.  Assuming you weighed 400 pounds, you would need about 3,400 calories to maintain weight.  If you were able to go down to 1,200 a day (which would be impossible with the way they workout)... you could lose about 5 pounds based on eating.  That would mean he lost 23 pounds by exercising.   To do that you'd have to burn 80,000 calories... or in other words.. run about 540 miles.  I don't think so!!!!!!!!

I was so happy to just lose 2 per week!

We were created as relational beings.  In my mind the question becomes: if somebody's life has an adequate number of good, healthy friendships - do they need a romantic connection?  I don't think so.  But we do need healthy relationships.

Hey Scaroppo!

I saw this old post and was wondering how your training is going?  October is close!

I'm running a marathon in WI on Oct. 10.  I've done 10 with some longer trail runs. For me, if I can get a mid length run in mid week it makes make longer runs on the weekend a bit easier.  If you're injury prone, I would stick to the 4 days a week to make sure you're recovering well.  If you had two fairly easy runs, one middle length run with one long run I would think you could do well. For some reason I can really abuse my body running and it is always ready for more.  I suppose it's genetics.

Good luck!  You look great in your pics!

I like eating a large dill pickle!  Most are about 5 calories and they tend to be pretty filling.

I think the simple answer is loose weight.  What I've found is my stomach is the LAST place for weight to come off.  As I near goal weight... it looks like I've been working my abs pretty hard - I reality it's just the last of my fat leaving.

Hello... How do you get that much protein?  What foods??  I've been getting between 90-130 grams a day.  I like grilled chicken which is great protein.

Thanks!

For this marathon I'm going to try to average about 50-55 MPW.  My PR was in 2005 at Chicago where I ran 3:25.  I need to run 3:35 now to BQ.  In 2005 I was at a recent low and only weighed 177.  I would like to get down to 175.  I'm not doing much for speed work.  I need to add some tempo runs to my normal week.  Not sure I can get down to 3:35 as I was only running about 25 MPW from January through May.  Now that I've lost 8 I can feel things coming back.  The next couple long runs will tell me a lot!

Hello...

I'm training for Whistlestop that same weekend.  I'm trying something different this go around.. instead of beating my brains out training I am going to get down to an optimum weight.  I PR'd at 177 three years ago at Chicago.  My goal for this one is to train less and try to run it at 175.  I let my weight get a bit out of hand and went up to 195.. it really slowed me down.

I'm using to CC to make sure I get enough protein and the right balance of carbs.

My mix has been about 21% protien, 23% fat and 56% carbs with about 2,200 calories a day.  At that rate I shed weight pretty quickly.

Thanks!  That makes sense and it would pretty easy to add calories!  I want to get to my goal weight as quickly as possible but I don't want to make maintenance difficult.  I'll target about a 750 deficit.

Ok.. I'm not normal so don't go by me!  Smile

I love keep track of stuff and weigh every morning.  I keep a spreadsheet of calories in / calories burned / expected weight vs. actual weight.  I am amazed at how closely expected weight comes to actual weight.   That feedback tells me that I'm logging both food and activity accurately.  There are still days where the scale makes no sense and I just assume its a bit of dehydration or lack of decent BM.

The daily feedback of progress keeps me motivated.  I suppose that can go the other way as well!

I normally enter everything I had for breakfast plus whatever I brought for lunch when I get to work in the morning.  Then after dinner I enter dinner.  That works well for me as then I don't want to eat after dinner as I'd have to get back on to log it.

This site works perfect for me as I'm very disciplined about keeping track of things being an accountant.

After week one I'm down about 5 so I am very pleased.  Smile

How are you doing??

I'm a bit sad in that I haven't had any Hot Tamales for about a week!!

OK... I'll stay away from BallPark franks!

The only F I've gotten so far is from salted butter.  I switched to Brummel & Brown's and enjoy that.

I pay quite a bit of attention to the grade for the day.

I am very active so it's a challenge getting enough protein without getting too much fat.  Resorting to FISH!!

I wish chocolate milk got a better grade!  I can't go below 2%!

I've only been doing this food logging for a couple days.. but I think that is key.  The feedback I get from a bad food grade works well for me.  I love Yoplait Fiber One and it gets an A.   I love salted butter and it gets an F.    :(

I think I'm finding that calories are not the enemy, bad calories are.  I'm just trying to make good choices for each meal and for each snack.  If I eat good calories I can eat enough that I have the energy I need.

Good luck!!
