Pregnancy & Parenting Baby cravings? Jul 05 2009

I totally feel like lbh - never wanted kids until 2 years ago! I always figured I would have one, when I'm well over 30, and that having 2 would be out of my league :) I also don't go crazy when I see kids - I'd much rather pet a kitty. But I figure that other people's kids are just annoying, and I'd love my own, sort of an instinct I guess.

Anyways, back to the topic - I've been married for 2 years now, and we were together for 7 years before getting married, so I know my partner quite well. We just finished grad school and are looking for jobs, so getting pregnant now wouldn't be very wise. At the same time if I were to get pregnant now, I would NOT regret it! I feel like I'm ready physically and emotionally to have a baby, just not financially haha :) That's not such a problem tho, we live in Sweden, the system's different. So, I'm finding it really hard to not try to get pregnant every time we have sex. And mind you, he wants kids more than me. My urge is very instinctive, my biological clock is ticking (I'm 29), but he has always liked and wanted kids.

OK, long story, just sharing. I guess I'll just let it happen when it happens :)

I loooove cottage cheese! I buy the low-fat type, sodium doesn't bother me that much. my favourite way to eat it is with protein powder - strawberry flavour. It fills me up so well, really like nothing else, not even a big steak. mostly eat it plain tho. it was hard to stop eating a 500g package everyday, I'm down to 1 package 3 times a week lol :)

thanks for the reply crazydiamondchrysalis! it's so obvious i should google artificial sweeteners and cravings that I didn't see it :) I know they are bad for you, no doubt, to me it's a compromise for the short run (I figured one more month) but if I'm getting the same cravings from them as from sugar, that's dangerous! cause one day i'll stop low carbing and if I still crave sugar AND have it, I'll end up where I was 2 months ago. oh well, black coffee it is then, cheers!

nekochama, I just want to add a few things to what everyone else is saying. I think that your calorie deficit is OK. If you cut down on working out, you can either maintaing the same deficit by eating less or by settling for a smaller deficit - keep in mind that 500 cals deficit is also good. I personally think this much working out is not harmful, but of course it depends on how you feel.

about you not losing - there is a reason that we stall from time to time, and it is not because we are not losing, but because we are not losing weight, but rather inches - keep track with a tape. the time that we don't lose weight, we allow our skin to tighten and become less loose (I call this 'investing' lol). The weight will start coming off soon enough, don't worry!

in terms of what calories you should be eating - cut out anything processes, regardless of whether it is a lean meal, or other crap like that. cook your own meals from scratch, and eat as many raw vegetables as possible! what works for me is also cycling my sugar intake (and I don't mean processed sugar) - so days with fruit altarnating with days without fruit. I know this is controversial, but I've made my choice.

that's all from me - good luck!

buy a calistenics workout book - there are millions of exercises and you never have to do the same, so you won't get bored. plus, you don't need equipment for them - it's training with your own body weight, very effective!

Weight Gain Candida diet but need to gain weight! what to do? Apr 29 2009

most of the foods that fitnessgirll suggests are great for you! but skip the avocado - it's fruit, and it has sugar. I also suffer from candida once in a while (usually after antibiotics), but probiotics are a great tool to solve that! also, not sure about the no-dairy rule - I would totally recommend probiotic yogurt! read on the net, there have been studies with people who have had yeast infection in their whole body and have gotten rid of it after consuming probiotic yoghurt everyday. for me, in order to avoid candida (been healthy for over 2 years now), I eat yoghurt everyday for breakfast. cheers!

Calorie Count Confused - Burn meter question Oct 23 2008
17:09 (UTC)

Hi Corena and thanks for the answer!

To be honest, I didn't get what you were telling me at fist but then I checked the burn meter 2 hours ago and about 30 mins ago and finally understood lol! :) I assume that if I use the burn meter for orientation, I should be consuming about 500 cals less than the small number on the burn meter (the total estimated calories for the day), right?

Cheers, Vesela

wow, ubiquitousfit, and your post is supposed to make me want to lift now? :D Otherwise, I don't think I'll start with self-teaching programs for lifting.. besides, my gym offers free one-time instructions from the trainers there, so I can finally take advantage of that. thanks for the suggestions tho!

Thanks for the replies guys! I will try to incorporate the 'new stuff' in my regimen. As for the water - I drink about 3 litres of water a day, plus 1-2 coffees. I eat 5 times a day, have tried 6 times but it gets really annoying to carry so much food with me at all times, so I have stuck with 5 times, every three to three and a half hours.

caloriecountingme, balkan style yoghurt is plain yoghurt that has gone through natural milk fermentation process by adding probiotics to the milk. If you can find good balkan style yoghurt where you are, I def recommend it! The only type I remember in North America like 5 years ago was not exactly healthy - 10% fat and no probiotics as far as I can remember. But hopefully there are more types now.

Otherwise, I have been thinking of booking a personal trainer to show me how to use the free weights, as I've never done that before but I guess I've been lazy and have stuck with my regular routine. I'm a bit afraid that my shoulder will get shaky (i've dislocated it 5 times) but if the trainer is a pro he/she should be able to get me to do exercises that will not put me at risk, right? Even if I don't switch to free weights I will try to up my calories to at least 1500 then, see what happens.

Ok, that was more like a runt than a reply :) Thanks again for the suggestions.

Hi annibaker2008 and thanks for the reply!

Like I said in the original post, I want to lose fat, not weight per se - so I want to get from 29% body fat (current) to 20%. I eat low fat (the fat I consume comes mainly from dairy, but I do not add oils to anything), low sodium. I have cut out all processed foods except for the occasional cheat day (every 2 weeks), which also means takeouts, I cook all the food I consume. The dairy I consume is only plain/balkan style yoghurt (low fat) and low fat feta cheese.

So, any suggestions?

I have been off track for the past week and have started fresh again today.
