i agree with amethystgirl that you are underweight. and good whole wheat cereal is never a bad idea. how about eating something every 3 hours and keep it at around 300 calories with lean protein at every meal. get in at least 5 fruit and veggies throughout your entire day. and drink water to the point your pee runs clear (this could be less than 8 glasses a day. use your body as a guide). eat 4-6 small meals a day. fitness models and pro female weight lifters pack a cooler the night before so they have all their food with them the next day and they never go hungry or are tempted to eat bad. good in case you don't eat until 1:30 again! (i do this sometimes when i know i'm going to be busy. my co-workers see my cooler and they are cool and respectful with my meals) lean proteins include chicken, fish, nuts, 1% cottage cheese. there are packets made by bumblebee tuna that are already 150 calories, heat one of those up and add a salad and a whole apple and it's a satisfying meal for your body.
as long as you feed your body right, your workouts will tone your body up naturally and lose weight without trying. but if your body isn't getting the calories and nutrition it needs, you will gain weight because your body thinks your starving. add working out too much and you will damage your body because it needs to refuel itself after a workout and it will take that refuel from your muslces and vital organs. you are on the right track so keep on it!! i read fitness magazines and they have great recipie ideas that are low calorie and really good snack ideas. along with new ways to workout. the models are thin and really toned but they'll tell you they eat like a horse because their bodies need constant nutruition to keep their physique. |

| Pregnancy & Parenting | Is there anything I should be trying to do healthwise BEFORE TTC #1? | Aug 13 2008 16:14 (UTC) |

i started to eat better by adding fruits and veggies, at least 7 a day. then adding quality protein, taking a multivitamin with folic acid (1mg is prescription strength). i eliminated caffeine so i wouldn't crave it. and exercise regularly. now that i'm expecting, i find i can't run since it gets my heartrate too high so i power walk and do all my weightlifting sitting down, vs. standing up. so it's a whole lot easier because when you get pregnant, you're not going to be able to exercise the same way because your tired more!!

| when i had a steady schedule, go in at 11pm and get off at 7am, 5 days a week, this is how my schedule looked: 2-4pm wake up, breakfast 6-8pm work out (not the whole 2 hrs tho!) drink a protein shake after the workout 11pm go into work midnight- snack 2am - lunch 4am - snack/light dinner 730-8am - go to bed now i'm on 12hr shifts so i go in at 7pm and get off at 7am, 3-4 days a week. on the days i work i do this: 2pm wake up, breakfast 3pm walk the dogs 4-5 light workout protein shake after workout 7pm - go to work 9pm - snack midnight - snack 3-4am - lunch 730am - go to bed. on my days off i work out harder and run the dogs vs. walking them but still try to eat every couple of hours and not eat 3hrs before bedtime. hope this helps! |

| talk to your ob-gyn and make sure you have the green light. my doc said it was a good idea to lose some weight before having a child for several reasons: i'd be in good shape and would have an easier delivery, the baby would be healthy, and there would be less weight to loose after the birth. during the pregnancy i could still work out just up my caloric intake to not loose weight and he would tell me when to stop if need be. |

| Weight Loss | Gallbladder surgery stress | Feb 26 2008 16:26 (UTC) |
3 |
| i had my gall bladder taken out (emergency, of course) but after i had lost about 35 pounds. the main thing was to stay away from fatty foods and i was ok. i ate a lot of fruits, veggies, water, and lean proteins. i started walking when i could tolerate the pain and would vary the intensity with the incline feature on the treadmill. i started working out again after 6 or 8 weeks. i'm a slow healer. in the time that i couldn't work out, i kept myself busy so i wouldn't be tempted to snack or overeat. just relax, don't stress, and take the time to heal right. everyone heals at different rates so you may be up and moving in no time! |

| Health & Support | What Triggers a Migraine??? | Nov 30 2007 03:38 (UTC) |

| i've had migraines since 1998 and i've found several things that may trigger them but i still get them every here and there... skipping meals lack of sugar/carbs (the days i don't eat bread or fruit) loud sounds obnoxious smells (perfumes, foods, etc) lack of water lack of sleep bright light (really sunny days, flashes of lights directly in my face) lack of caffeine (odd, yes i know) my neurologist has given me atenolol (sp?) to take every day. i think it's a blood thinner but seems to work. my headaches are down to once or twice a month. |

| pilates is not just abs and back. i became so much more flexible and that helped in other aspects in my life. it was challenging to keep the poses. but i personally think it's a great supplement to any cardio and weight lifting program or even by itself. i love it. i'd suggest you go the first couple of times and learn the basic moves so you can do the exercises right and then move onto tapes at home. i use winsor pilates. mari is kinda cooky but she knows her stuff. once you learn the moves too, you can do them anywhere, especially when you travel. |

1. eeks! i'm 168 right now and i'd LOVE to get to 140 but i'm aiming for 150 by thanksgiving. 2. the highest was in the 190's. i remember going to work and the buttons on my uniform shirt were screaming and i was scared that they would pop off at any second. 3. the lowest i've ever been was 125 in high school during the summer. i used to work 2 jobs full time. during school i was at 130. that was back in 1995. college i was 140 at my best. 4. cc suggests that i take in i think about 1500. 5. i'm trying to aim for 1200 but in my profession any my schedule is not easy! i still have to figure that out, time management wise. 6. i have a medium body frame. my fingers touch but i have broad shoulders and huge legs and small joints in my ankles and wrists. overall i want to be healthy but also look good. if i get too thin, i think my husband might leave me! just kidding but i need to be physically strong for my job and my lifestyle. |

| i hear you on that! my husband is kinda the same way. i told him that, which is true, i am next in line to get diabetes and i don't want that to happen. i haven't had kids yet so i need to be healthy when i do get pregnant. i also found that if i work out when he's not home, there is no one to tell me anything negative. it's easier to focus on your workout too! try video tapes like Slim in 6 or Power 90. I started to do pilates and became more flexible and found that i had better endurance and stamina just from solidfying my core and breathing right. keep doing what you're doing!! tell him this is something you have to do for yourself. he will realize that once you are happy with yourself, it will spead to other aspects in your life. |

| i buy adidas running shoes and they do me good. but i agree with going to a running shop. they check how you pronate and how your foot makes contact with the ground. they may even get an order of custom made insoles for you. they even tell you when to get new shoes, after i think 300-500 miles. good luck!! |

| Weight Loss | Extra protein and calcium led to kidney stones | Jan 26 2007 04:54 (UTC) |

| i passed stones and had an infection at the same time and my doctor at the time said that if the pain was too much, they could be "blasted" by ultrasound, sending the rays to the stones and breaking them apart so they are smaller to pass. you could do everything right but may still need medical assistance. talk to your doctor to see what they can do for you. |

| you also need to think about your future. if you continue like this, you won't be able to have children. you will most definately have some type of vitamin deficiency, which will cause an early onset of diseases and or cancers that could have easily been prevented if you ate right during this developmental stage in your life. you may also want to seek some professional mental help so you can lead a happy life, regardless of your weight. | |||

| Fitness | hungrier when exercising and harder to diet!? | Jul 03 2006 07:47 (UTC) |

| how are you eating? the body is a funny thing to figure out. i run about the same amount and in the beginning, i was starving about three hours after the run. i used to eat a lot of protein filled foods for breakfast and lunch and i tried cutting out the carbs. but i was still hungry! so now i try to eat my carbs before i run for breakfast and lunch so i have the energy to run. then after the run i cut out the carbs and drink a protein shake about an hour after or a meal of veggies with a serving of lean protein. now that my body is used to that, i don't get the crazy munchies after i run. i also upped my calories from 1200 to 1600 (thanks for the idea from coach dee) for my running and i'm still loosing weight. that's for working out in the evening. in college i used to run first thing in the morning (before class) and didn't worry much about calories but still kept up the high protein diet because my body was still revved from the run. sooo... sit down and figure out a diet with your running schedule and track that for a month and see how your body responds. everyone is different so listen to your body first! |

| Motivation | How do you motivate yourself in a bad week? | Jun 22 2006 04:48 (UTC) |

| i try one of two things. i get dressed in my workout clothes. it takes a little while because i'm not motivated but then i feel since i'm already dressed, might as well try to get in at least 20 minutes of something. second (which i don't recommend but works for me :o) is eat something bad like pizza which tastes GREAT but i know i HAVE to run it off. or call someone you know is a workout buff and ask to join in. no one's ever told me no because they enjoy the company.
i recommend the first or third one wholeheartedly! |

| snack on fruit or popcorn but don't use the microwaveable stuff, use an air popper. but if you don't have an air popper, i learned in my weight maintenance class that 2 tbl of kernels put into a brown paper bag and sealed then microwaved until it popping slows (about a min) and you have really healthy serving of popcorn. top it with cinnamin for something sweet. it should yield three cups popped. | |||

| i hate water so much that i have kidney stones! sooooo.... i buy crystal light and the Target version called Market Pantry (they have no calories). the strawberry lemonade is my personal favorite. i also have lemon juice on hand for my water too.
Water flushes out your system and adds necessary oxygen to your blood and brain. Remember that the human body is primarily made of water so it's a good thing. Drinking less than what your body needs will make you retain water weight, like going into starvation mode, it keeps water in case you don't give it any. Look at what you're eating and space it out more. Eat something every 2-3 hours like a piece of fruit to keep your metabolism going. and yes change things up a bit to get a variety. if you do and eat the same things over and over every day, your body will get used to it. |
