Fitness Mission: Run Around the World--MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!! Mar 25 2008

Update:

I was doing pretty good for a while there. I had gotten up to 6 miles and then my job got in the way. It's amazing how much you lose when you are away from your routine for a week. Then trying to get back on routine only to get back on the road for another week and so on.... Finally though, I am done with my Teaching schedule and am just in the office.

I lost so much and now am only back to 3.2 miles a day. I gained and jumped back up to 220. I am trying my hardest at the gym. I am not only running, but doing interval training and weight lifting. For some reason though, I am trying to scale a wall and I am not Spiderman. I feel better though, I guess that's a plus.

I wasn't suppose to move until June, but now I am moving at the end of this month. So I didn't reach my goal of 190. I am eating right and working out, I guess that is all that I can do. I'm sure when my body is ready then it will kick in and do it's thing. Ok, I have rambled on.

Weight Loss Eating Less Than 1000cals a day....Good Or Bad? Jan 11 2008

I agree with everyone. I know that this isn't the way to go. I also know that when I do Fall, which I probably will. I will gain all the weight back and some. I am a yo yo dieter. It is just so hard for me to just eat healthy. Too many friends that want to go out all the time and I am a very social person, so I go.

I am however laying off the beer for a while. I haven't drank anything since Friday and don't plan on it for a couple weeks. Good thing is, my roommate is gone for the weekend. So, no beer pong. I am just going to stay at home and chill.

Another reason it is hard for me to eat right is because My boss and I are on a training team. We are constantly on the road and it messes up any kind of routine I have tried to establish. And of course, I have been sick all this week. The crud has been going around the office. I am actually better now. Just got my voice back today.

I love to run and as soon as I am done with my training season in mid Feb. I plan on joining the gym down the road from my house. Good thing is, I can run to it and then weight train and then run back home. Even though I do have a bench and 300lb weight set in my basement.

I know that beer is full of empty calories. It's hard for me not to drink because I am just that guy. I am not bragging, but I do have alot of friends and people are constantly wanting to go out and this and that. Usually consists of drinking. I have however put drinking on the back burner for now. Luckily I have a few weeks to just dedicate to me and not others.

I agree about the sodium levels in canned soups. That's why I get the low sodium, sea salt cans. Usually I drain the liquid out anyway.

Ok, well I haven't been on this diet long so I will take everything everyone said into consideration. Thank you to all that provided info.

Thats the thing. I have been eating nothing but crappy foods. Fast food, drinking alot of beer and eating alot of pizza. That's what got me over the 200 mark. Even before I joined the Military though, I went to boot camp weighing in at 198. When I got out of boot camp, I was 178. I put most of that back on and maintained around 190 or so, but I was also 18, 19. I am 26 now and just can't maintain. When I hit 25 is when I put on almost 50lbs in a year. It just seemed like my metabolism stopped. I mean who puts on that much weight in a year doing the exact same thing? I really don't know. Oh wait, me.

I do eat veggies and fruit. Just not everyday. I love eating shrimp and mixed vegs. I snack on carrots and what not.

I guess my biggest problem is that I am in the Military and I have to maintain a certain weight or I get wrote up. I wouldn't worry about it other wise.

I have heard of it of course. But the thing is, I am not hungry doing what I am doing. I feel fine, i'm sleeping great, i don't get tired at work. I mean all in all, I think this works for me. I'm sure it isn't the best way or the way a Nutritionist would recommend. I guess untill problems arise then I am going to stick with it.

Don't get me wrong though. I love to eat and it is hard for me to stick to any kind of diet. I mean my regular eating consists of Taco Bell, Shakes, Pizza, and lots of beer. So I have cut all that out and i am only going to treat myself to a beer or two when I reach each one of my goals.

As far as my metabolism goes, I guess I should go see a doctor and make sure that it is working properly. Like I said though, I do run quite a bit. That has to help my metabolism a bit.

I agree that the site tools work well for normal people. I on the other hand have the crapiest metabolism. My Mom's side of the family is huge. So I constantly have to fight that. at one poiont i was running 6 miles a day for 6 months and did not lose anything. There was a month where I ate nothing but one can of soup a day and maybe a slice of bread with it and lost 20lbs in a month. That was pretty stupid of me. That was then though.

Now, I am taking Centrum Cardio. Its not like i'm not eating though. The other day I had shrimp and veggies, and 2 days ago I had half a chicken quesadilla. I mix it up. So I am not starving. On top of that I drink alot of water through out the day.

I think my biggest thing is the beer. I play alot of beer pong. I am laying off the beer for a while to see what happens. I went through this before and I think I may have drank 4 times in 4 months. I actually dropped off quite a bit of weight. So I am thinking, the beer is the majoring factor in all this. So like I said, I am not going to drink beer for a while and keep doing what I am doing and see what happens. Thanks for the advise.

zarelha - I am 6'2" so my stride is a bit more than most peoples. It feels dang good though to reach a goal you set for yourself. Now if I can just get down to the weight I want.

Next on the agenda. Bump up my speed or my elevation on the treadmill. What do ya'll think?

Treadmills are good if you want to keep your heartrate up for a long time and outside is better if your looking to build up strength. I ran for an hour yesterday on the treadmill, but I kept my heartrate up that whole time. They say that's good for you. Anyway, both have ups and downs.

I am a weekend binger. I have actually put 10lbs on in one weekend, but dropped it all of within a couple days. Most of the time the weight you gain is from food not digesting out of your system. As sick as it sounds, you can hold up to like 8lbs of waste in your system at any given time. Unless you just don't eat, but there is another forum for that. Just this past weekend, I went from 213.8 on Friday to 220 Sunday night. I work so hard during the week and then the weekend comes and I ruin everything.

But your right, it could just be muscle that you have gained.

I am a treadmill runner. I hate running outside.

    1. Treadmill is inside and when your done you can just hop off and into the shower.
    2. If you get tired of running outside, just hope your on your way back because you still have a walk ahead of you.
    3. You can watch T.V. or a movie while on a treadmill to pass the time.
    4. Treadmills are specially designed to absorb the impact of your run.
    5. The ground doesn't really give to much, unless your on a track or perhaps running in the grass.
    6. It can get hot outside and that can seriously decrease your endurance and the actual time you work out.
    7. Treadmill will keep you going even when your legs feel they want to fall off.
There are some reasons that I enjoy the treadmill over running outside. The comfort of my own home and it's airconditioned or heated, depending on the time of year. HOLLA!!!!

Hey thanks everyone for the feedback on the blisters. I didn't run this weekend, so it gave my foot time to dry up a bit. I tried the band aids, but I got the big butterfly ones. The actual pad on it is about 1"x1". They are a decent size. I just put one on when I run and then let my foot air dry. It seems to be working. Anyway,

    ADD 5.235 for the 14th.
    ADD 5.591 for the 16th.
    ADD 5.881 for the 19th.

16.707 total for the week of the 14th - 20th.

    6 miles, here I come.

p.s. zarelha - I will just be adding to my previous posts, so that way all my runs are in one spot. Might make it easier for you.

Anyone have any good ideas to prevent blisters? I have Asics and they have been doing awesome. Every since I started beefing up my run though, I have started getting blisters. They are right in the arches of my feet. I actually had a blister on top of a blister the other day and that sucked bad. It kind of makes it hard to run when that happens. I have made great progress on my run and I don't want to lose that. I need something to put on them or in my shoes or something. Any ideas?

I agree, though it is hard to find alternatives all the time. Since you responded back to me on the 10th. I have found that getting veggie pizzas with no sauce is alot better than getting a pizza with, peperoni, sausage, canadian bacon, etc..... And getting thin crust instead of hand tossed and especially deep dish. I even drank Bud Select this weekend instead of my regular Bud Light. Bud Select only has 99 calories a bottle.

When I ordered the pizza this past weekend, they looked at me like I was crazy. I agreed with them at first. I was thinking to myself that this wasn't a pizza at all. But hey, it satisfied my craving for a pizza and I felt better about it in the end. Don't get me wrong though, I would have loved to get a Meat LOvers with all the fixins' though.
