Just add some strength training before or after your elliptical. Pushups would help build all of the muscles in your upper body. So drop and do some every day. It's a quick easy fix. |

There are other reasons besides animal rights... for giving up animal products. It's good for your health and for the environment. Two books that are focused on the health benefits would be "The China Study" and "Eat to Live". These two books focus strictly on scientific data and studies related to diseases like cancer and heart disease. Your parents might be interested in this information for their own well being. Dr Joel Fuhrman has quite a few videos on YouTube that are rather interesting. He is the author of "Eat to Live". Be patient and flexible. Sometimes people don't understand but sometimes gradually they can come to respect your decision. |

Hey I'm almost 50 and my mother gave me loads of crap about being vegan. You got to stick to what's right for you. Think of the animals that you are saving and think of the planet and the great health benefits you are experiencing. Then realize that you don't need the agreement of anyone because you are your own beautiful person. You are the best YOU. And you don't look fat to me. Now go and be happy! |

Thanks! These are all great ideas! I might try the soup for starters and gradually work towards eating my kale straight up. |

I also try to eat a little protein and a little fat every 3 hours or so. It helps keep the cravings at bay. I have been a CC-er for over two years now but just recently decided to give up meat. |

Hmmmm this is all very interesting. I think if you are going to compete in a weight lifting/body building arena you would probably want to consume larger amounts of protein with supplements. That seems to be the norm wether you choose a veg*n or omni diet. However, for normal strength training to stay fit... if you eat healthy you'll be okay. Your body will let you know if it is lacking something. You will feel tired and not have stamina. Here are some good articles http://buellerskitchen.com/?p=144 |

| That's too bad. When people behave badly in the name of a group or organization it only has a negative impact on the goals. | |||
| Vegetarian | Veg*ns, do you consider yourself 'picky'? | Aug 19 2008 12:51 (UTC) |

There is a communication issue between veg*ns and the rest of the world because I think deep down people know what's right and wrong but they can not seem to separate themselves from it. So people live in denial about the food they eat (amongst other things) and the ones that are trying to stop the madness only irritate them because it's a reminder that something is wrong. The same thing happens between people that are trying to just eat healthy. Friends and family can be very non-supportive. So I guess the best strategy is to try to use tolerance and be assertive to your needs. I think this requires a quiet stubborness. |

I like fiberone cereal because it is only 60 cals for 1/2 cup and when you add it to yogurt it makes it very crunchy and chewy so your snack will last longer too. I also like to mix is with cottage cheese and fruit. |

The first P90 link is incorrect. It goes the slim six thread. I didn't see any Tae Bo or Kickboxing listed under the DVD section. Also the walking DVDs are very popular and a great entry point for those people who need more gentle activities. Just a suggestion. The new organization is great! thank you for doing this. |

Sucking in your stomach will make your muscles toner. That is why when you lift free weights they tell you to "squeeze" the muscle. I think I held my stomach in through six years of JR High and then High school. |

Just be sure to rinse them very good ... I cut them up with some kitchen food scissors and then heat in some water. They are already cooked. Heating them in water seems to help with the texture and also further get rid of the unique smell. You'll either hate them or love them. |

I just discovered that there are two dishes by "Smart Ones" (frozen food) that are great toppers for the shiritaki noodles. Creamy Chicken Parmesan 240 cals Chicken Marsala 180 cals Just rinse and heat the noodles in some water and microwave one of these dishes. I also usually have a small side salad. I sprinkle a little cheese on top too! This is such a big meal for under 300 calories. Unbelieveable! |

Break up the cardio if it's too much. Do 15 or 20 minutes. Then go do some strength training and the finish up with another 10 minutes on the machine. Maybe you can get involved with some group fitness activities. Other people can be motivating. Keep trying new activities and look for thing you like to do. Working out needs to be fun too otherwise you won't stick with it. |

| Fitness | more weight or more reps? | Apr 10 2008 02:10 (UTC) |
31 |
I'm about your age and we tend to lose more muscle the older we get. Strength training increases your muscle and bone mass and your overall metabolism. Being strong and having muscle is a good thing. You will not bulk up increasing the weight on the machines. It might be harder when you first increase but your body will adapt. I would suggest that you do what is comfortable but still challenging. More weight and a fair amount of reps will help you continue to build muscle tissue. Low weight many reps... is toning and endurance. In the long run having more muscle tissue will help you burn more calories during your daily activities. I don't know why people like the treadmill. They might be training for race. Some people just like to run instead I think. |

I work out at night too - though not as late as you. They say if you can workout in the AM it helps your metabolism...but you know.. if you can workout on a consistent basis I think that's more important. Whatever you do - you've got to be happy with what you are doing and not suffer. |

You don't need those www.perfectpushup.com things. Just grab on to a dumbbell and use that for support. If that bothers you then don't do pushups. Try using resistance band and doing chest flies. |

Yes you could potentially do that. Working out will help with it. But you might also want to take your measurements because sometimes you wind up losing more inches then fat if you start working out. Good luck with this! |
