| Weight Loss | Frustration! Need help! Input! anything!!! | Aug 01 2007 16:50 (UTC) |

| Well, I share(D) your frustration for the past month. I was being so good and eating all the right stuff...almost always A on my nutrition level and not a single ounce came off my body.
This week, however, out of nowhere....I get on the scales 2 days ago and thankfully another pound is gone. Yeah...yeah...1 pound after 4 weeks .... not too exciting for most, but for me it was a thrill. Today...2 days after that...I hop on that scale and I've lost 2 more. You hit plateaus and I just kept telling myself that. If you stick with this plan, the weight eventually goes. Believe me...it does. I would never in a million years have believed it if I wasn't doing it myself. It'll come. Just don't let discouraging thoughts invade what you know will eventually work. It'll come off. I am proof. |

| Weight Loss | Is it really bad? | May 23 2007 08:57 (UTC) |

| I ALWAYS save a few calories to give myself a snack before bedtime. It keeps me from waking up hungry and needing a large breakfast to get started. Guess that may not be the general rule of thumb, but it is working for me and I am losing...45 lbs so far...so I don't think a pre-bed snack is gonna hurt as long as you have the calories left for it. | |||

| Thanks for the suggestions. He just has never been one to limit himself on anything and Katann, you are right....an activity would be good. At least it is getting golfing weather, maybe that will help too.
We already do the 100-cal snacks but he has gone back to regular chips and ice cream both and to get him to measure was easy thef first few weeks, but that stopped a long time ago. Still says he is watching what he eats, but then complains when the scales show no change....go figure. We have been trying some new low-cal dishes and maybe sliding more of that into the menu would be helpful too...hadn't really thought of that much. And Clairelaine, you are exactly right...the problem in a nutshell is he thinks of this as a "DIET" (a cruel 4-letter word) and I have approached it so differently. Guess I can't really change his mindset in that, but these are some good suggestions. Wish me luck and any other suggestions from any of you....please keep them coming. |

| Weight Loss | 3000 calories | May 12 2007 11:42 (UTC) |

| Ok, so I may be missing the whole concept here so don't take anything I say to heart, but I take a day every now and again and "splurge" on all those things that sound so wonderful. Sure, I may not eat as much as I used to of each thing, but I do take a day and eat exactly what I want....that way this eating plan is just that...an eating plan. It makes my mind believe that one day isn't going to kill me and it also keeps me from craving things that I might otherwise deny myself because of the calories or because of the nutrition value.
So I say treat this day as a "splurge" day and just get back on the horse tomorrow....enjoy the splurge and let it go. By the way...I do treat myself and what I am doing must work...I've lost 45 lbs since last May on here....so my splurges haven't killed me and I am sure yours will not either. I say enjoy that cookies and ice cream day!!!! |

| Here's my very fave soup. Just did an analysis on it and it comes up an "A" so thought I'd share.
1 medium onion, chopped 2 garlic cloves, minced 2 teaspoons olive or canola oil 3 cups reduced-sodium beef broth or vegetable broth 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, rinsed and drained 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes 1-1/2 cups picante sauce 1 small green pepper, chopped 2 teaspoons chili powder 1 teaspoon ground cumin In a large saucepan, saute onion and garlic in oil until tender. Add the broth, beans, tomatoes, picante sauce, green pepper and seasonings. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. You can serve with cheese and sour cream |

| Well, guys, my new "find" isn't as healthy as yours but it certainly has helped me with one of my worst cravings....pasta. I got a sample of the new Hamburger Helper single serve microwave packets and decided to try it (I HATE Hamburger Helper meals). I don't know if it was doing without the pasta I crave all the time OR if it was really that good, but I went out and bought all 4 varieties. I use them as a lunch/in-between snack. The most calories in 210 and it really does satisfy my pasta cravings so I am ever thankful for that.
Nutritionally they are either a C or C- but I eat healthy enough the rest of the day to usually balance out to an A or a B+ so I figure I can give in to this, right? Plus it is a real help to have something low-cal that I can squeeze in for lunch. |

| Vitamin B6 is also a natural diuretic....seems to help me and also is reported to help with carpal tunnel. My main water weight gain comes with sodium intake so you might want to check that as well, especially if you eat a lot of packaged foods. | |||

| My favorite snack is fruit. I will cut up fruit and measure it out and just grab a little bit of it when I need a snack. The sugar intake gives me a little boost and the sweetness helps curb any sweettooth cravings most of the time. | |||

| Thanks, guys. What you are all saying makes sense. We did start at a higher weight than most of you listed on here BUT our activity level is pretty much nil. We are both transcriptionists so we sit on our ....well you know... almost all day.
You are all right though....We won't mess with a good thing. I have never found anything that was so easy and made so much sense in my life. My husband had NEVER lost but a few pounds each time we had tried anything so this has been a real Godsend to us. We are both very encouraged by what is happening and still holding out for wonderful things to come. Thanks for all the info and the quick reply. You guys may say you are not experts just experienced but right now, I really beg to differ!!! Thanks again. |

| Weight Loss | what really works? | Aug 21 2006 03:31 (UTC) |

| Melissa,
I know exactly what you are talking about. My husband and I tried everything (low-carb, 3-day "Mayo Clinic", grapefruit diet, etc) and nothing seemed to work. He cut soda; I drank water and nothing helped. I filled out a profile on here for us both and we set out to see if this would work and in 3 months between the 2 of us we have lost 56 lbs as of this week. So this really does work. I wish you lots of luck. Just keep the faith that what they say here really does make sense and really does benefit you with weight loss and just general health. |

| Weight Loss | how important is it??? | Jul 14 2006 20:06 (UTC) |
|
| OK, this is the geek in me I guess, but my hubby and I have been doing this since May and we have both lost JUST counting calories and doing nothing but.....however, the competitive side of me always aims to have a better nutrition grade that he does at the end of the day. Silly, huh? I usually have anywhere from an A to a B- where usually has a B-/C- range. I just love getting a better grade than him!!! LOL | |||

| my favorite low-cal/low-carb meal is a fish filet (not breaded but grilled or baked) and a tossed salad with low-cal dressing. To get in a little extra protein, I will top my salad with a little cheese and we have been eating grilled peppers and onions on our fish. We use this as a standby for any time we need a low-cal dinner at the end of the day PLUS fish cooks quickly and most types are an A on the nutrition scale. Hope this helps some. | |||

| I LIVE (literally) on lemonade made with Splenda. I usually use 1/2 lemon and squeeze the juice into a 16-oz cup and then put 6-7 packets of Splenda in it. It turns out almost as good as the Lemon Shake-Ups you get a the local fairs. I love it and drink 3-4 of these a day instead of diet pop. I am sure you could do a whole pitcher as well, just use the Splenda to taste. | |||
