Alli disrupts one of the enzymes responsible for the breakdown of fat.  It is not a complete block, however.  As a result, if you eat 10 grams of fat, about 6 il be absorbed.  It's what happens to the stuff that isn't absorbed that causes the side effects.  The leftover fat stays in the colon acting as a lubricant, moving the stool along faster, resulting in the explosive diarhea.

So it's main purpose is not to block the absorption of fat, but to make you not want to eat that much fat, and hence lose weight.  If a normal diet contains 60-70 grams of fat, you need to be taking less than 40 grams to avoid the complications.  It is also recommended to take a vitamin supplement to account fo decresed aborption of the fat soluble vitamins A,D,E,K

A friend of mine didn't realize you had to willingly cut your intake, and he ended up with a nice big gatorade orange spot on his trousers.

One thing that happens when you are ill is that your cortisol levels rise, making you expend more of your blood glucose, your body senses this and sends a craving to your brain for carbs.  Try a bowl of high fiber cereal with some added fruit or a half tsp of sugar.  The extra fructose or sucrose will satisfy your craving until the complex carbs start to register on your system.

If they are staring to improve with local care only, then they are probably just simple blocked pores with normal bacteria.  If you are getting alot of them regularly in the armpits, then seeing a dermatologist about the possibility of Hidradenitis is important.

Large or recurrant boils elsewhere should be seen by a doctor since a new drug resistant form of staph (CA-MRSA) is becoming more common.

If he was ten years younger he might be a reasonable candidate but the risks of any surgery after 70 go up.  Take into account the risks of malnutrition and your dad's risk versus benefit do not seem to warrant the procedure.  Consultation with a dietician or bariatric specialist may still be of benefit.

Got mine at Best Buy at opening time.  They had 30 pre-orders and only about 10-12 on top of that.

The aerobic activities were fun, the games as well, the yoga OK, but the strength activities need alot of room.

Spent half of my time doing the bubble float, just clenching my toes makes me move the bubble.

Hi from NW Indiana

I had the band August 2nd, 2007.  I had begun the process after hitting 318 pounds and by the time I started the Pre-op Diet I was at 311.  I am now at 220, gone from a size 48+ pants to 36, 2XL to L, and was within 12 months of going on insulin to now being off all diabetic medication with normal blood sugars and cholesterol.

There's a few others with bariatric surgeries on these board, as well a a few who think we took "the easy way out"  but fortunately they are in the vast minority.

With the exception of anesthesia, you seem to be structure oriented, so you probably would get more intrested in intergrated or cellular biology, perhaps even bioengineering if you want to be challenged.

Here is the bioengineering site from my alma mater as an example of courses offered.

Anesthesiology, on the other hand is more function than form, so something like my major of physiology would be more appropriate.

First thing, don't focus just on biology.  Everybody and their nephew thinks you have to be a biology major to get into med school and that's wrong.  I just reviewed some of my first year classmates and here were their prior activities

Paramedic, Army officer, Teacher, Pre-law, Engineer, animal husbandry, biophysics, philosopy, anatomy, and in my case physiology.

Remember, there are more applicants than positions, and even once obtained, not everyone makes it through the entire four years, so make sure whatever your major is, is something you like and can apply to the real world or to further training.  In my case my backup plan was teaching.

Then once you decide the major, look at the colleges you think will help you in that area and how they rank among med school applicant success.

Regardless of the speed of weight loss, all of them would have loose skin issues.  As for the final weigh-in, I am sure that all of them, knowing that there wouldn't be a wiegh-in the following week risked getting dehydrated for the final few extra pounds.

Sorry I don't usually shout like that, but you need to get that checked out.  The flip-flopping is usually caused by skipped beats, but the problem is that there are many different reasons for that to be happening, some of them critical.

Judging by some of your previous posts, I would estimate that your risk factors are extreme.

As long as this is not a regular thing you'll be OK.  But long term excessive Vit A intake cna cause toxic effects.

If you maintain your weight for a year, then you should see all of whatever skin springback you are going to see.  Increasing muscle mass may hide some of it but after a year, that's it.

Surgery is only recommended right off the bat if there are complications from the excess skin such as recurrent infections.

I don't know if your subway does this but ask for the freshest loaf they have then when you get the sandwich, scoop out some of the bread to reduce the calorie load.  When the bread is really fresh the flavor makes you not miss the extra bulk.

It's just extra calories, not something that makes you retain more.  Used sensibly, there's no problems with using them unless you have an intolerance for the source protein (eg whey)

 I think that your post went unnoticed because of it's timing.  Everyone posts around that time, so if it wasn't noticed right away, other posts would have bumped it down.  I was online around that time and didn't see it then.

As for "weight" gain, I think Red_ has the right idea, but if you haven't done high intensity workouts before like the "pack march" be careful, you may end up losing a little weight before you gain. And definitely get a little more protein in your diet.  My favorite way is to add chocolate flavored whey powder to some sugar free chocolate pudding.

eli - I am quite aware that there are people who do have certain intolerances for specific types of sugars, but giuliet's journals state that she has an allergy to sugar, not intolerance, that in addition to her prior (now deleted for eating disorder promotion) posts, suggest that she does need help regarding her health.

I do not make light of true medical conditions, but statements like, "I am allergic to sugar" only propagates inaccurate information and hampers those with true medical conditions like your friend from getting correct information and health care.
