be careful damsell, I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray actually DOES have calories. i've seen this in many articles.

notice how it says 1.25 sprays or something like that.

honestly, no one counts 1.25 sprays lol. that's not a normal serving.

generally, because there is canola oil, EACH spray is almost one calorie (.99999 calories). just be careful because if you spray too much, it can add up a lot.
also- the whole bottle of that stuff is 900-some calories. crazy huh?

"A Honolulu Advisor article says that, actually ICBINB spray actually does have calories:
"I Can't Believe It's Not Butter Spray is a good example of how this can be misleading — even though the label boasts "zero" calories and fat, that's just for a few sprays. If you were to use 25 sprays, it's actually 20 calories and about 2 grams of fat — and while this is still low, it's not 'zero.'"

oh, and i never said it was hot.
there's nothing pretty about anorexia. it's an ugly disorder.

it made my life hell. it still does.

if i could have the wish to be at a healthy weight and be perfectly CONFIDENT in my own skin, i would take that any day. i wish i never had an ED.

about the pro-ana thing...
it varies. some really sick girls go on there and do some **** "tips". i've been there but never been a part of it.
honestly, pro-ana disgusts me because there is nothing fun about an eating disorder. the thought that people actually want to "try" to have an ED breaks my heart. they are either too sick or don't have an eating disorder at all. i would do anything to not have anorexia and take my life all back.

monarch777:

the reason why i was defensive was because people were stereotyping all girls with anorexia, people who only want attention...and i thought that was really insensitive.
and since i was explaning it a lot, it's because i struggle with it myself every single day. i'm trying to prove a point.
and the thing is when people make statements about a medical illness that is not accurate, there will be feedback. there's always feedback on this site. so i was just trying to explain myself...thus, you should probably keep your comments to yourself if you don't know what you're talking about. like you said, you don't understand it...and that's fine. you don't need to.

anyway i do agree...no girls should post unhealthy habits if they want to be a member of this website.
i'm not disagreeing with any of this.
and yes, members who don't understand it aren't going to give a lot of support because doctors diagnose and provide appropriate treatment. i agree that sickly people shouldn't be posting in forums.
as i've seen, the people with eating disorders on this site are trying to recover and trying to be healthy. and have a very positive attitude.
also, there's a new forum about Eating Disorder Recovery, so i haven't seen many eating disorder(ed) members post about their eating disorder in a regular forum.
but i don't have a problem with you ignoring girls who wish to do that. i'm not encouraging any unhealthy behavior and i do believe in recovery.

and i never said that she wasn't perfect.

she's beautiful as she is.

and of course no one deserves to live on that path.

i don't think YOU understood my point of it will always be in our minds. but yes, obviously psychologists and medicine adjustments would help...
and also, it doesn't mean it started because someone said something hurtful about their weight. it's not about that. people don't go on a downward slope of anorexia just because people say you're fat. it's all a control and mind thing. everyone has different thoughts about themselves...their self-esteem... and BDD is how they perceive themselves. some anorectics even were underweight before they had an ED.

and that's the whole part of the disorder, ok? it's about your emotions out of control. things you can't control, and THEREFORE you want to control your weight. in a mind of an anorectic, skinny is perfect. and it's a dangerous path. it's just how it is. and usually if you haven't studied it before or experienced it yourself, you won't understand the components of an eating disorder.

and all of the people who are angry at eating "disordered" people, you need to stop saying that we think "being emaciated makes us superior". WHEN did any of us say that? never. and i never said that healthy was bad. it's great. underweight isn't.

we don't go saying to you... oh you think you're better than everyone else because you're healthy... do we? no.
it's as if just because we are sick, that you have some kind of paranoid thought that we are criticizing you or feeling superior.
well, that's not it.

and yes, if they don't have anorexia and are attracted to that....i don't know really. maybe that is a vanity thing. maybe it is a mental thing. who knows.

monarch777,

Usually with eating disorders... someone can get to an extremely healthy weight and still not feel good enough.

It's a self-esteem factor. People feel as if it's their identity.

That's why anorexia is the deadliest out of all mental disorders. Sufferers don't know when to stop because their mind is telling them something else  :(

"Uh, I understand that eating disorders are a very, very serious thing.  And so do all of you I'm sure.  Not eating does horrible things to your body, and to your mind, and with all of the obsessing and self loathing that must be attached to such a life style must be unbearable.  I've seen the pictures too, and it's a scary thing, especially since the people are not deprived by circumstance, they do it to themselves.

I'm somewhat surprised then, that I seem to be the only person pondering these two questions: If obsessing over your weight, what you eat, hating the way you look, and starving yourself isn't a "genuine" eating disorder, just a cry for attention, then what is "genuine" anorexia and how is it more harmful?  And also, if these girls are willing to do this to themselves, genuinely starve themselves in this hurtful and hateful way simply for the validation, attention or pity of strangers, just how is this normal or healthy?  It's not "mental illness"?

These girls are intentionally hurting themselves-- some will die, some will never have children, some will lose massive amounts of bone, it might not be "real" anorexia but I promise it will have real consequences, and they're doing this so that some stranger on the web will tell them they're "too skinny".
And somehow this wins them your scorn because they're not genuinely troubled.  If they're willing to do this to themselves, to me, this is a sign that something is massively wrong, maybe with them or maybe with a culture that has lead to their proliferation.

You may disagree, but I think that a willingness, or in this case and eagerness, to do oneself harm is a sign of some kind of disorder, I especially if they're willing to do it for the validation of strangers."

I'm not really sure how to answer this. It's highly likely if a person is starving themselves that they do have an ED.

If you have an eating disorder, it'll stay with you for the rest of your life. Honestly. Yeah, you might get a better mindset and recover weight-wise, but the thoughts will always come up.

If they are starving FOR attention, most likely their ED behaviors will stop...at least when they're alone.
I see this a lot. Teenagers saying "OMG I was anorexic for a week!" Yep, that pisses me off big time. A disorder has to develop, you don't just "get it" overnight. You know someone does not have an eating disorder when they think it is some kind of diet.
You aren't anorexic for periods of time. You either have it or you don't. Some people even lie about what they eat to get attention.

The people that have eating disorders and are actually bragging about it... well that's just wrong and most who are sick wouldn't do that. Maybe they have other issues, no?

Most people don't rant about their eating disorder or what they ate if they actually have an ED. People are sneaky with food and exercise...and avoid social situations. You can tell something's wrong when all of their clothes are baggy and they are looking sick. I turned completely pale and was an insomniac, but I pretty much kept it to myself except for a close friend.

And like I said... most people with ED's will not starve themselves to fish for compliments.
People with actual eating disorders...it develops over time. Usually first by an innocent diet. There are also major effects in their environment that can lead to an eating disorder... such as loss of control. Or trauma. But yes, losing weight and vanity has little to do with eating disorders. However, that IS the hardest part getting over when you want to recover...

hope that helped?

"For the teenage set, mental illness is cool.  It is how they get attention, it is what makes them "special."  If not an ED, they go for OCD, cutting or anger management issues.  Aren't they all so unique?

Sigh, it really is pathetic.    Seriously, I believe that true anorexia is rare.  The real problem is that these girls starve themselves so that they can get attention for being anorexic.

In my early 20's I had a rocky period, when emotions and drama were in high gear.  I am one of those that cannot eat when upset.  I found myself at 104 lbs and so ashamed of what I looked like that I bent over backward to gain weight.  I would not wear anything form fitting for fear that somebody would notice my ribs or hipbones and think that something was wrong with me.  Now they go out of their way to show that their ribs and hipbones stick out for people to notice and when that is not enough, they get on line and practically beg to be told they are too thin. "I'm 5'8" and weigh 110 pounds and can't lose those last 10 pounds even though I only eat 500 calories a day."

Puh-leeze.  Either some of these people have the I.Q. of a doorknob or they know full well that they are underweight but need confirmation from strangers to feel better about themselves."

Kay_H
A few of the things you said I agree with, but many things you stated are completely ignorant and negative.
Maybe for some people, attention is good. Maybe for some people that think that mental disorders are cool and want to get attention.

But a lot of it ISN'T. you need to realize that people actually do have problems and you need to stop criticizing people before you even know their situation...and trying to claim they are doing everything for attention.

Me, for example, I struggle with anorexia. Do I struggle with it everyday? Of course. Do I brag about it? No! When someone says I'm skinny, do I say I'm fat?...No; I don't say anything. And it's not "RARE". If you honestly think anorexia is rare, then you are delusional...Or maybe you need to get a reality check.

And yes there are days where i HONESTLY feel fat. And I will rant that to people with eating disorders or who are recovered. I won't do it on here because there are many overweight people that take that in offense.

But you know who will feel defensive regarding your post? People with actual problems. They exist, and they're not imaginary. So STOP judging everyone with an eating disorder. Ok so some teenagers may make stupid remarks about what they ate and if they're starving themselves. Report them, ok? Stop putting all of us into one category.

Go ahead and call it pathetic. But what is pathetic is your ignorance. Yes, I DO agree that people with ED's shouldn't be bragging on CC that they only ate an apple for the day.

But for you saying that "all teenagers think it's cool" isn't true.

and I'm not the only exception.

Next time watch what you're saying because it will offend other people.

Eating disorders aren't a CHOICE; therefore, the people with them aren't "stupid". It's a mental disorder. You can't call someone stupid who is bipolar or schitzo, right? That's because they can't control their thoughts. And ED's work the same way. But recovery is possible and I'm NOT saying that we need to put negative and unhealthy comments... a recovery forum would be great. And it also doesn't mean someone's stupid if they are still suffering.
There is NOT an "easy button" to an eating disorder.

Had to put it out there.

Of course it's wrong to brag about your disorder and mention your weight to fish for compliments...but in reality the ones who do have eating disorders, aren't into that attention. For me, there are so many times that I just want to disappear and no one trying to help me. I hate doctor visits and I hate attention being put on my eating disorder! It makes me feel horrible.

-Soy milk or fat-free milk, gelatin-free / low or fat free yogurt, basically any cheese that is healthy... parmesan, cottage cheese, american...

-Protein drinks on the run... there's Slim Fast, Ensure high protein, and other yogurt smoothies you can get

-Oatmeal (and buy a flavored brand)= great fiber

-low-fat / sugar-free / fat-free ice cream / frozen yogurt. you can get a fair amount of protein from a dairy product.

-whole grain breads, pastas, snack bars (such as Luna), protein bars (these can be quite yummy. Pria is good)

-Whole grain cereals. Best with fiber & protein from granola or nuts.

-egg whites... for a breakfast you can put the egg whites in some sort of wrap, and add veggies such as peppers and tomatoes for a meal

-Nuts. peanuts, cashews, almonds, hazelnut, macademia, pecan, pistachio, walnuts
~also- peanut butter is a great source of protein in moderation

-Veggie burgers- several to choose from... incl. Boca and Morning Star

- or imitation meats from Boca- for example there is sausage, bacon, and other products that are vegetarian

-Beans of course...Incl pinto, black, navy, red kidney, black-eyed, chickpeas, lima, soybeans, lentils... and hummus with the chickpeas ingredient

-Lots of fresh healthy fruits

-Lots of colorful veggies and green-leafed ones.
~Baked potato with skin is great protein and super yum =]

hope that helped
