| Another thought to add to the other great posts -
There is a website called hungrygirl.com - if you sign up for the daily email you will get all kinds of recipe reworks as well as lists of new (and taste tested) lo cal food items. This site has been very helpful in opening my eyes to calorie counts on a lot of menu items at many restaurants (especially the ones that 'claim' to be low fat, low cal) as well as providing alternate lower calorie food items to replace the higher calorie ones. Enjoy |

Venting can help to keep you on track so no need for apologies -- after all, arent we all here for the feedback and support? Just keep on track and remember to return the favor to the next one of us that starts to 'slide'. |

| Hey Muppet15
Sounds like you have the right focus and a great attitude. Not sure if this helps but I dont understand how one can focus and honestly try and yet there are no results -- yet, if we do grab that cupcake we see INSTANT results (and not the ones that we want)... I guess what I am trying to say is -- you arent alone. Use this mesage board exactly like you are and you will see (as you have) that there are a lot of us out here just like you. AND another feather to put in your cap -- you ARE here and you ARE learning and you ARE paying attention -- you have taken what could have been a complete derailment and you found a way to look at it from a positive angle (guess technically that would be 4 feathers) You go Muppet15 and I'll be seeing you around!! RDJUSTICE -- CONGRATS!!!! Keep up the great work! |

| Hey All -
Can I come back? I fell off the preverbial 'wagon' (or should it be scale??) I got caught up in buying a new house in another state and then moving ~~~ I dont even have to go any further I am sure. My hubby is now in another state while I finish out my contract here -- I miss him immensly BUT I decided that I can use this time to focus on ME and shock the pants off him (hahahah) when he sees me again ......... So with all that being said -- I would like to come back and add my support where I can and share the support! I missed you guys!!!! |

| Hey Munsey --
NASCAR???? You ROCK!!!! Might I offer a suggestion? Before you go -- get an idea of what a 'portion' size is --- like what IS a 'bowl' of chili or a 'portion' of hotdog etc...... from that you can determine what you can have without having to make a spectacle of vege platters....... When you boil down all the 'diet' articles -- it all comes down to portion control and exercise. You have the exercise built in at NASCAR cause you can WALK around to get different views of the race (unless you are in a skybox -- but then you can take the stairs for a new bathroom!) Now -- the beer issue -- I cant help ---- I think the key really is with the food part -- keep an eye on portions and you are gonna do great!!! Jealous that you will be there but have an awesome time!!! |

Glad to have you here babe -- just hang tough and we are all here for you --- Also keep in mind that there are ways for you to get in cardio without the fiance -- add extra walking -- park farther away and take the stairs...... all sounds ridiculous - but it does add cardio....... Bottom line -- use the board as a place to vent and I can pretty much say that the group here is very positive and supportive. You are a PROUD member of the 180's and YOU have accomplished a lot! |

| Hey Everyone!
Just checkin in -- I got extremely frustrated with the gremlins so I decided to boycot the messenger (my scale) -- and LOW and BEHOLD - I lost weight...... hmmmm - I also read an article in Prevention magazine where the author said that the first thing she would do when someone wants to take on the challenge of losing weight is to throw out the scale! So, needless to say - that made me feel better..... amazing how you can always find something to justify your point of view isnt it? The part that still gets me is being totally on target (trying to get away from the good/bad labels here) and NOT budging at all with the weight (I am detecting that Stephk has some number hang ups......) Grrrrrrrrrrr - it is so dang frustrating. I want it NOW!!!! <sigh> yeah and I wanted all the keg beer and pizza at the time too.......... My husband has started calling me skinny and noticed that my jeans are looser and that I have gained a waist! WOW -- perhaps I should keep him. Like there was a question there! I still have a long way to go for me but it is nice to have all of you here to chat with and share detailed (actual numbers!) info and to have the support on the outside...... Katyayer - hang tough!! You are doing VERY well. And I LOVE Beachchicas comments about steering away from the fridge (Beachchica - you must have driven out here in Los Angeles!) Prkushun - thanks for the invite and GREAT job on getting the hubby involved -- it really does make all the difference! |

| All right - ALL of you -- I have tears running down my face about the pooped pop corn -- too much and a much needed laugh!
I was (and I guess I still am) confuffled about the popcorn (aka. pooped) conundrum. I about had a heart attack (well, maybe more like a minor stroke) when I read the back of the popcorn bag -- and I am still trying to figure out how much 1 cup of popped popcorn really is? I did buy a food scale because 1 cup of something isnt 1 cup of another........ Pooped corn --- Priceless! |

Forgot to say -- Congrats!!! And, no offense, but I really hope we wont see you around here much longer. (But, that does mean that you WILL see us in the 170's club!) Also- you gave me some hope that it can be a reality - I started being serious about this goal at the end of February so - in a few more weeks maybe I will no longer be welcome here either -- Sorry about the gremlin infestation! Havent found a good way to get rid of them yet -- any ideas? |

| Hey All
SDSUBRANDI --- You GO girl! And I have to tell you that your thoughts have been mine exactly - I think that there are evil little grmlins that have taken over my scale (as you will see I mention those little buggers almost everytime I am in here) My clothes are also fitting better but the weight isnt moving - and I am being consistent and honest about what I am doing......... Perhaps this will help a bit -- it took us a while to gain the weight, so unfortunately, it will take a while to lose it as well. Not the answer I was looking for but if I want to figure in a little bit of reality -- that really has helped me. The part that is most frustrating is when I am being religiously good (for more than a week at a time with ZERO slip ups) and I hope on the motivation buster (scale) to find that I have put ON a few pounds........ grrrrrrrrr ~~ Anyway -- hold steady girl and just keeo your eye on the goal and the horizon. Be honest with yourself and if your clothes really are more comfortable -- then you are doing something right! Prkushun --- Good for you! Wanna email me some of your motivation??? Cheers |

| MWZ -- YOU GO!!!! YEA!!!!!
Beachchica -- I am SO sorry about those varmits getting loose from my scale an infesting yours! I can relate to the frustration! I dont understand this whole weightloss thing -- perhaps because there is no magic bullet and it is all about being patient and consistent..... DO WHAT???? Weekends are hard but keep in mind that you do NOT have to eat when your hands have nothing to do (no keyboard) that is the hardest part I think -- retraining the brain! If it helps -- I'm here witcha and I have an infestation of varmits as well -- though I can breathe in my jeans ....... that is the part that confuses me the most - How can I have the same weight but have looser clothes??? And I PROMISE - I didnt go out any buy bigger (E-GADS) jeans! |

| lysistrata -- well said!
Perhaps part of the problem a lot of us are running into is -- things just aint the way they used to be -- there are two career families now -- and that requires a different set of 'rules' Maybe we are all confused on what we are 'supposed' to do -- maybe there are NO 'supposed tos' anymore? I work in a company where there are a lot of stay at home Dads -- never in my growing up days would I have imagined that that would become a reality -- well, not in my house anyway. I also watch a lot of people who got married and had kids cause they were "supposed to". I never understood that one myself but..... Ultimately -- communication is the key. Also -- good comment about how the person who started the thread is AWOL......... Enjoying the thread anyway! |

WOW --- lots of issues going on here. I read through most of the postings and it nice to see so many perspectives -- and what was even nicer was the sincerity in trying to help that came across with flying colors. Basically, my opinion would be -- lose weight because YOU want to. Change your lifestyle (exercise and eating habits) because YOU want to. Sometimes it does take a 'slap' in the face to get you to really face the TRUTH --but take it as just that -- an insight to what may be the truth from someone elses perspective. On that same note - only YOU can determine whether the comment had some truth to it or not. Example -- when I weighted 118 lbs (SIGH) I had a male "friend" who used to continually tell me how FAT I was -- now that, would NOT be considered truth! My husband is a sweetheart but MAHN - can he say the wrong thing at the wrong time and the wrong way <-- dont even get me started. BUT -- after learning to communicate with him better (a tough task for me!) I have learned that when these episodes do arise, he honestly did not mean it the way it came out -- he was just thinking out loud --and those thoughts (meaning the words that came out) were not intended to be mean or hurtful or rude.... they were just a means to communicating. When I 'confronted' him on one of his recent comments -- he was mortified when he heard what he sounded like...... so my point being -- there are times when the person just isnt good at verbalizing....... Now -- find things that you like when you go out and dont deprive yourself --- if you learn and pay attention to portions (which may mean you can only have 1 (ONE) french fry) -- you can have just about anything. But this is provided that you have the will power. I decided to embark on my journey by learning about portions cause if I say "I cant have that" (what ever THAT may be) then I get really pissy. I am learning to find things that give me a bigger bang for the buck -- like a piece of cheese rather than a string of spaghetti.......... Anyway - girl - It seems that you have your head on straight -- you are special and you are worthy. Keep your eye on the goal and dont let anyone bump you from the path that is going to make you happy! |

| Ahhh Katyayer -- so pleased to hear that I am not the only one with Gremlins! Yes - it would be even more distressing if those little (or are they huge? Has anyone actually SEEN a scale gremlin???) buggers played games like that after a few weeks ---
Well -- I am going to remain constant and persevere! I mean, if you think about it -- in order to get this way, we were consistent with our bad behavior -- so......... ahhh -- LIFE changes -- joy oh rapture......... <--- dont mind me, I am trying to keep myself entertained...... |

| Katyayer -- you are MOST welcome -- it seems to help if we stick together and provide positive support for each other.
Beachchica -- You ROCK -- what a great idea to walk those babies! I am an animal lover as well and I might just have to follow your lead and try that. And think if the mental boost you get as well! Those dang gremlins are back in my scale -- I am being REALLY good and the scale went up 4 pounds! I am trying not to get too irritated -- there must be another explanation especially since that was a difference from 1 day! I know there are other factors involved but this kind of feedback sucks when you have been so diligent! OY! Anyhoo -- still stickin to it and hopefully I'll have another win with more than half a pund coming off in the next visit to gremlinville! |

| Those both sound like great - non obvious - ways to include people in your routine! And to sneak in some exercise too!
I just continue on my own little plane quietly by taking smaller portions or really scrutinizing the menu for something that fits for me. I figure, as long as I remain true to myself and dont make a big deal out of things -- others really do tend to either not see, or not make any comments. Or if they do -- I just tell them that I am cutting back -- but what ever you do -- dont exclude yourself and lose out on great memories and times! You may also find that your little deviation may help to kick start your metabolism and bump you right down into the 170's club! You GO!!! |

| Hey Gomui
IGNORE those people. Hard as it may be --- cause we do seem to be surrounded by them, and I'd like to know why! Be true to yourself and know that you are on a personal journey to a better (--------) <-- fill in the blank. That girl that throws comments at you obviously is not a very happy soul and the only way to make herself feel good is to make others feel as bad as she does. If you want to eat your sandwich and then eat your salad later -- YOU GO!!! |

| Hey Mimi
Count me in too -- though a bit late in responding. I put my first posting in a few days ago -- and I can not tell all of you how wonderful it was to get such a great response from beachchica. It just proved to me that NONE of us can do this alone and that it is truly a journey that requires commitment, changes in lifestyle and habits. All of those things are huge undertakings individually, then we go and add them all together AND demand weight loss on top of it....... AND then we all seem to think that we can do it alone....... So to you Mimi - I say -- HECK yes! Please count me in and thank you for extending the 'olive branch' <-- that has no calories right -- hahahahah |

| Beachchica -- you were just what the MD ordered -- thank you for the detailed response and words of encouragement.
I will try the measurement route -- my husband has made comments about me 'shriking' and he can see the difference so -- there may be more truth than fiction. I am also going to try alternating the calorie intake as well -- still trying to find the time for the exercise on a serious level (cant believe I used to do aerobics 4 times a week before I had to pay for my existence!) Again - I thank you!!! Our bodies are definitely a trip -- to say the least! No wonder they call it 'practicing' medicine! <GRIN> |

| Does it count if I am bouncing between 188 and 190 -- can I still join??
I am most frustrated in that the weight is taking so dang long to come off -- Ok - perspective (well duh! it took quite a while for you to get where you are now silly) Yeah - well that just isnt working. I have my little spreadsheet all set up and keep track of the calories and am not having a problem staying within the range (which I started at 1200, but then figured that might be too low and my body was in freak out mode -- so I went to 1400 but that didnt feel right - so I took the BMI quiz and have settled on 1350 per day) I am not having a problem with being hungry and have been most shocked as I am discovering what a 'portion' is - and I go for what gives me the biggest bang for the buck. So - in a nutshell........ am I going to wake up one morning and have lost the weight that is stubbornly not going away??? OK - patience, patience.......... I know I'm not alone -- is there anyone out there??? Or better - any suggestions. Oh - I forgot the weird part -- my clothes are looser and fit better and my 'tight' jeans are comfortable now (out of the dryer no less) so why is my scale being stingy??? |
