Weight Loss green and blue line... Oct 18 2007

I don't remember which is which off hand, but one is your actual weight, the other is your "trend".  If you weigh yourself every day, you'll find that your weight fluctuates up and down a little, but hopefully in a downward "trend".  I think the trend line tries to indicate where you are based on your last few weigh ins, rather than just your last one.  I don't know the math behind it, but that's the idea.

Update:
As to which one to follow...I like looking at the one with a lower number ;)

seriously though, it always seems as though my trend line is above my actual weight...I don't find it very usefull.

Update 2: Found this in the FAQs:

"our weight graph includes a trendline (green line), which averages out the daily fluctuations in your water weight and uncovers your true weight loss progress. "

I mention blood pressure because I was diagnosed with high blood pressure about a year ago...I'm 25 now.  It's unusual, but not unheard of...and your symptoms could be indications.  I'm not even really overweight (doctor says ideal for my body type is 190, I'm at 207 now.

Blood sugars is probably closer to the real problem...I just have blood pressure on my mind right now (just started medication for it...man do I feel old).

Regardless you should talk to a doctor.

This is a good thing!  To lose weight you need to burn more that you eat, which you've done.  The difference between the two is called your deficit (sp?), the larger the deficit, the faster you will lose weight.  You can increase the deficit by A) eating less  (but don't go below 1200 calories per day) or B) Exercising more.

Weight Loss alleviate my guilt... Oct 16 2007

You might want to take a look at the topic titled "Cheat Days" (just a couple topics down from yours).
Weight Loss "Cheat" Days Oct 16 2007

No scientfic data to back this up, but just my experience...

Generally I find that cheat days don't affect me very much.  My "guess" is that your body can only absorb so much fat in a small time frame.  For example, on Friday I weighed in in the morning at 209.4.  I had a really bad "cheat meal" that night (party at a friends house lots of bad food and drink).  On saturday morning I weighed in at 213!  Yikes!  I didn't weigh in on Sunday and didn't do anything extra special for my diet, but on Monday I was 208.6.

So, My guess is that my body shed that extra weight (I'll let you picture how...) over the weekend simply because it couldn't absorb everything.  Also, I imagine that there was a lot of water retention due to alcohol.

I know I didn't answer all your questions, but hope that helps.

alanamarie,

Maybe you just mis-typed your formula, but I don't think that is right...I'll try to clarify...

Say you are an average american whose recommended daily intake of calories is 2000.  (Use Tools->Calorie Target to determine what your intake should be for your diet).

Now say you want to lose weight, and the recommendation for caloric intake (from the calorie target tool) is 1600 calories.

-If you do NO additional exercise, you should eat 1600 calories.

-If you do 500 calories of additional exercise, you should eat 2100 calories.

Of course those aren't fixed numbers, just make sure that: Intake - Exercise never falls below 1200.

Hope I didn't add to the confusion!
