Pregnancy & Parenting Christmas gift ideas for baby? Nov 11 2008

I am not buying Reid anything. He is my fourth boy, he needs NOTHING! I did buy him a teething ring for $2 but that's it. I might actually wrap up some of the baby toys we already have just so it looks like he's getting something but I am not buying him anything new.

You'll get there, Cecily! It has taken me a good 6 months after my previous two pregnancies to really start losing so I basically went out and bought a whole new wardrobe. I figured if I had to be fatter than I liked, then at least I could feel somewhat better in clothes I liked. I'm hoping I'll start fitting into my "less fat" clothes in a few pounds from now.

For my official weigh in on Saturday I was 150 lbs and I was again this morning so it wasn't a fluke! I am really excited to break into the 140s. I have 14 lbs to reach my pre-pregnancy weight but I would like to lose 20 more lbs total.

Who told you that you shouldn't gain any fat? And does that mean not gaining any weight?

I think you have the right idea about trying to eat as healthily as possible and I would also suggest some light exercise. It helps a lot during pregnancy. I will say though, that weight gain during pregnancy is not all fat, you gain from things like increased blood volume, the weight of the baby and placenta and various other things besides fat. So don't be too alarmed if you do gain some.

But I would say that eating as healthy as possible will do wonders for both you and your baby. Good luck and congrats!

Well my official weigh in and measure day is tomorrow but I cheated and got on the scale this morning. I am at 151 which puts this month's loss at 3 lbs. 3 is better than none!!

I weighed myself yesterday morning and I'm at 153. I really haven't lost anything since the end of August and that is really discouraging.

You haven't gained either, so maybe it's just time to confuse your body and try something new. Are you doing the same workout routines?

Bdasko- Welcome to the boards and congrats on your little one. Good luck on your walk to run program. You'll be jogging before you know it.

I haven't been working out much the last month or so. I got sick so I quit and then I was just too busy to start again. I started again this past week and I've been counting calories and already this morning the scale said 152/151! So I hope it's working!

You can't force kids to like things but having them learn to eat a few things they aren't that fond of is a good life skill. In the future you don't want them to be at a friend's house, see what's for dinner, say "Ew gross!" and refuse to eat it. So I agree with the first reply; cook one meal and expect them to eat it. That's what I do with my kids. I try to cook things that everyone will like but there are times when we have peppers, mushrooms or onions and my kids have learned to eat them without complaining. Also, if I want something a little healthier, I can add a salad as a side dish that I don't require them to eat.

Pregnancy & Parenting how hard is it to lose the baby weight when it's your second? Oct 29 2008

I agree with machatica's advice. I gained 40 lbs with my second (as I did with all my pregnancies) and it came off a little at a time until it was gone around 6 months post-partum. Everyone is different though. And don't ask me about the third and fourth baby weight. Tongue out

I've got four kids. And I think it really depends on the person. I would give yourself a good year before you start being really concerned about it because it usually takes me that long for it to get as small as it'll ever be. I have no hope of it ever going away for me, after 4 pregnancies and 3 of them being big babies (9.5 lbs and up), there's just too much of it. But I'm past caring. In hindsight, I *wish* I knew how lucky I was after my first baby to have no stretch marks, not be fat, and wear a wedding dress 2 months later without being able to tell I'd ever been pregnant. So although you might not think like this advice, I think you should be thankful that you are considered lean/average and just be patient with the extra skin. :)

Yup, I've got four. You just get your Rhogam shots (here in Canada it is called WinRho) and you'll be fine. Your doctors or midwives will stay on top of it. No worries.

Pregnancy & Parenting Preparing for pregnancy/birth and motherhood - good ideas? Oct 26 2008

I would have read the book Preparation for Parenting by Gary Ezzo (I believe it is also called Along the Infant Way). You can get it at www.gfi.org, they have some international partners so you may be able to order it from someone more local to where you are. I love the Ezzo's material, it has worked so well for all my kids, but I only read the infant book before my fourth was born. Reading it before the first one would have helped me!

Chocolate covered peanuts for protein!! Laughing Hee hee!

I actually don't weigh in weekly so you guys go ahead without me. I weigh myself once a month on Reid's monthly birthday (the 8th of every month) so I will just report mine then. I'm trying not to get obsessed with the numbers on the scale so that's why I've chosen to do it this way.

Shill, how I wish I was only 7 lbs from my goal!!

What kind of exercise are you ladies doing? Right now I am not doing any cardio, although I should be and I want to try and work it into my day, but I am doing the hundred push-ups challenge. I'm on week 4 and it's hard but it sure is working and I'm hoping once I am finished I can continue doing push-ups as part of my workouts. My arms always need toning so hopefully this will do the trick, not to mention push ups are supposed to be good for keeping the bustline perky! ha ha.

I will join. I was just coming here to look for a thread about exactly this. When did you have your babies, how much have you lost and what do you have yet to lose? Reid was born April 8, I started out at 161 lbs and have lost almost 10 lbs, he is six months old now and that is not fast enough loss for me!! I actually haven't weighed myself in a few weeks (didn't want to be too obsessive about the number) so I am guessing I'm somewhere around 153 right now. I would like to be 145 by Christmas and 130 by Reid's first birthday. They say the weight loss gets harder with each child. Reid is my fourth and this has so far been true for me!

Pregnancy & Parenting 3 months pregnant...Is it too late to resume working out now? Jul 10 2008
01:37 (UTC)
I had the same experience with my third and fourth pregnancies. At the beginning I was too exhausted to even think about working out so I got back on my elliptical trainer somewhere between 20-25 weeks (way late!). With my fourth, I started slow and worked my way up and I was still working out the day before I delivered. So it is possible, just do what you can and don't push yourself.
Pregnancy & Parenting Pregnant--trying to limit weight gain Apr 05 2008

My best advice is to limit sugar. Stay away from all sugar if you can! I know that's a tall order but I started doing it when I was 34 weeks and the results have been amazing. I always gain a lot of weight during pregnancy as well, usually 40 lbs. By 34 weeks I was almost up to that much again and my midwife was concerned my baby would be huge, so she said to go off sugar. The difference has been incredible. Not only did my weight gain SLOW down (only gained about 1 lb in 4 weeks or so) but I have avoided swelling and my blood pressure is still nice and low. I believe it is all related. Plus I have kept up regular exercise and that has helped as well. I am now a few days overdue and waiting for my baby to arrive but I feel really good, better than any other pregnancy and this is my fourth.

If I ever am pregnant again, I will be limiting sugar from the get-go because I have been so pleased with the results.

I am so glad to see a pregnancy and parenting forum here! If I had known about this earlier, I would have stayed here more during this pregnancy instead of falling off the face of the earth.

First off, CECILY!! Not sure if you remember me from last year, but CONGRATS on your pregnancy!! And congrats to everyone else as well.

I am 39 weeks pregnant with my 4th boy, he does NOT have a name yet, but I am looking forward to meeting him hopefully in the next couple weeks. I stopped in here at CC in preparation for joining up here again once he's born so I can lose the baby weight. I should have stopped by sooner and could have participated on this board a little more.
Pregnancy & Parenting Stretch Marks Mar 29 2008

Your daughter was born on my birthday! :P

I really don't know if there's anything you can do about deep stretch marks. Probably they will fade with time. I had some NASTY ones on my chest after my first pregnancy and after a couple of years I really couldn't tell anymore. Even though there are lots of remedies out there that claim to help, I'm not sure anything actually does.

That being said, I would MUCH rather be fit and in shape after having a baby than have no stretch marks and be fat and flabby. So if you think of it that way, then they aren't really such a big deal.

You should be proud of yourself, Andrea. That's a great accomplishment!

Right now I'm down to 145 so I have 10 lbs to go until I reach my first goal. The past two weeks I've lost a pound a week instead of the usual half pound so possibly I could reach my goal soon after Christmas. That would be very exciting. I was always hoping to be pre-pregnancy weight by Ben's first birthday which is April 10. So it looks like I'll get there! For a long time I wondered if it would happen but now I think it will.

Keep up the good work, ladies!

Hi everyone,

I don't know what it is, maybe the combo of Halloween candy and Phill being sick (even though he's lots better now), but I have been eating so terrible lately. But the good news is I worked out twice today. The first time I did 30 minutes on my elliptical trainer as per my workout schedule, and the second time I did about that much of cardio salsa because I was bored and felt like moving. I think tomorrow to keep myself accountable I'm going to actually log my calories. I normally don't do it every day but I will tomorrow just to make sure I stay on track. I need to break out of this unhealthy eating!

So at my house Friday night is fries night. We just have french fries for supper. Not so healthy, especially since we deep fry them. BUT because of the journal entry I made and I knew some of you would be reading about it, I decided to bake my fries instead and everyone else will have deep fried. But not me. Thanks for keeping me accountable girls. Just thinking about all of you trying to meet your goals and eat healthier inspired me!

Wow, I've missed so much! I had to read almost 3 pages to catch up! I usually just read journals these days. Welcome all newcomers, proudmommy and happymomof4 (I think that's right). Feel free to add me as a friend!

Christianrockchick, I love the pictures you uploaded. Your daughters are gorgeous and they look just like you!

I am going to be painting tomorrow so hopefully that will burn lots of calories off....I have to get rid of the chicken mcnuggets I just ate. My hubby was in town and came home with a bag of McDonalds. You know, some people just can't stand the stuff, but I LOVE it. Although I'm not sure the nuggets are sitting well. :P

This Friday I'm supposed to be going to a costume party and I was going to dress up as a bride (wearing my wedding dress of course). I was 130 lbs when I got married and I'm 147 now, but I think the dress will still fit. I haven't tried it on yet. If it doesn't, I guess I don't have a costume!!

Poohb, you don't have to "do" anything to belong, just keep posting and we'll all get to know each other and encourage each other along our journeys to a healthier weight!!

Christianrock chick, I love what you said about your ab routine. My last two babies have been 9 1/2 and 10 lbs so my stomach has been really stretched as well. It's so nice to know that there is hope!! I am so going to do that routine!

I don't really have many goals for this week, other than I will do the ab workout 3 times and one of these days I need to start doing cardio, either on my elliptical trainer or doing a video. I just haven't decided when I'm going to start. I have to mentally prepare, otherwise I'll never do it!!

Hi moms, especially all the new ones! I actually am currently not doing any actual calorie counting. I try to eat reasonably and I should get back into exercise but there seems to be a lot of other things on my plate right now! My oldest just got over the flu and I'm potty training my second one.

Mamadani, just wanted to say that I also live in a rural area and can't go to a gym or anything. I invested in an elliptical trainer. It's something I can do whenever I want and the kids can be around. No babysitter required. It only cost me about $300 and I saved all my birthday/Christmas money for it.

Sinderella, that's the great thing about kids, you can work out in front of them and they either don't care or just think you're funny. My oldest son sometimes tries the moves himself! But he is really big into trying to grow fast and "get more power" like daddy. It's hilarious.

Thanks for the congratulations! I just hope it continues.

Hi moms, I spent my weekend trying to get over all my hormonal/bleeding problems and I think they have finally solved themselves. And as an added bonus, I stepped on the scale this morning and I was 148!! I've been 150 FOREVER so this was a welcome surprise. I'm not sure if it's the birth control or what, but I just haven't really had as much appetite lately. As for great kid moments, yesterday my parents took us out for supper and my oldest son was writing on a napkin. He's never done this before so it was very exciting for me, but he was sounding out words and trying to write words without me helping. It was so funny. He spelled pizza "peesa" and flower "flawr" and things like that. He is turning 5 in January and will start kindergarten next fall, for anyone wondering. I saved that napkin, of course! My baby is 6 months old today so I took a bunch of pictures of him yesterday. I'll try to add one to my pictures if anyone wants to see him. Hope everyone is having a good week!

I have one potty trained and another we are working on. I think the biggest thing is to wait until they are physically ready. My 2 year old can go pee on the toilet completely by himself if we tell him to, he doesn't even need help and yet he doesn't have the control yet to hold it. He can make himself go if you tell him to but so far he's not gone much longer than 15 minutes without wetting his diaper. And besides that, I don't have the energy right now to try and train him. One of these days I'll try again. I'd like him to be able to wait an hour between potty trips, so far that hasn't happened. My oldest one was much easier!

Welcome summerbaby & Ruthie (hope I didn't miss anyone). There are a lot of March/April babies here! If no one minds sharing, what are all your babies' names? My son is Benjamin Phillip.

I am a full time SAHM to my three boys and I can't imagine going back to work. I think it would be really hard and I admire those of you that can do it. My husband and I decided when we had kids that I wouldn't ever work, not even when they were in school (we are planning on homeschooling so it wouldn't work anyway). It's something our moms did for us and we want that for our kids too.

Anyways, I haven't worked out in a long time. I was learning how to salsa; I just recently bought the Crunch Cardio Salsa video. But right now I'm having all these problems with hormones and bleeding so I hardly have energy for anything. And as for eating, I am so turned off of food right now I don't know if I'm eating enough. So hopefully I get all of this fixed soon and can get back at it!

Hi to all the newcomers! Sinderella, Ben was born April 10. I should put pics of him in my pictures if you want to see him. He's just started sitting by himself. Yes, he was concieved in July. I was actually due March 25 with him but I went 16 days overdue!! It was awful! And had to be induced yet!

Anyhoo, I'm having all sorts of issues with my periods and hormones and stuff. I had my thyroid tested today too, so the whole eating and exercising is sort of on the back burner for me right now. I really think though, that if my hormones would sort out I would drop about 10-15 lbs without much effort. I think they are what is keeping the weight on for me.

Everyone can add me to their friends lists, and I will do the same if you all don't mind!
