Weight Loss Anorexic?! Seriously? Feb 06 2008
10:41 (UTC)
1

I was visiting my friend at her house the other day, and her mum was drunk watching T.V. Anyway, she turned to me and said "You've lost a lot of weight recently... too much", followed by "Are you anorexic?"

I mean I have lost a fair bit of weight, from 145lbs in September, to about 119lbs now. But I'm only 5'3 so I don't think that really I look twiggy.

My friend has also started a diet, and she keeps moaning at me because she thinks I should stop losing weight. I don't know, it just gets a little frustrating.

Hey there, I'm 5'3 and currently about 121/122 lbs, down from 145lb in August. My current goal I think is to get to 112-115 lbs, but I'll just see how things go :)

Weight Loss How many calories do I need to eat per day to lose weight? Dec 11 2007

Well I typed your details into the calculator thing, and if you are sedentary then you on average burn 2000 kcal a day. Therefore, for you to loose weight at a rate of about 1.5lbs a week, you should be eating 1500kcal a day if you aren't doing any exercise. If you do exercise, just try to work out the kcal expenditure for it, and eat that amount of kcal back. This should prevent your body from going into starvation mode and allow you to loose weight at a healthy rate.

My parents are both 5'8.5, and my 16 year old sister is 5'9.

I'm almost 19 however, and only 5'3, and have been since the age of 13.  My friends all give me the milkman joke, fortunately I look enough like both of my parents to just laugh at them when they say that.

kikig - That sounds like a wonderful idea, I'll definately give it a shot. Thank you very much :)

saroful - Meal splitting sounds like a good plan, I'll definately suggest it, especially on the Saturday night! Not sure where's being booked yet, but probably somewhere that's going to reach quite deep into all of our student loans, eek. It'll be nice though :). Thanks for the suggestion, very much appreciated :). As for beer, I've had to give that up =[, I loved it, but instead of having 1 or 2 pints, I'd have about 5 or 6, and on one occasion 10. No wonder I gained 15-20 lbs last year, safer just to stay away from them.

I bought new scales, yay! So I actually have accurate measurements. Unfortunately they don't stop you retaining water...

What I did this year (the supermarkets at home are so much cheaper than the ones at uni) was stock up on non-perishable foods which I could use for the base of a meal, so I only have to buy a few fresh ingredients at a time :).

Things I found useful were:

Dry wholewheat spaghetti
Tinned tomatoes
Tinned tuna
Wholewheat cous cous
Rice
Noodles
Jars of pasta sauce

Hope that kind of helps :)

According to Trinny & Susannah I'm an hourglass at 5'3 and 125lbs. I have a 27 inch waist, 34C chest and I don't know about my hips. I'm just hoping that I'll still be an hourglass when I've lost another 10lbs...

jvermaes - One stone is equal to 14 lbs.

becky_dickel - Well what's done is done, I seriously doubt you've put on all the weight you've already lost. The scales may say you've put on a couple of lbs, but my guess is a lot of that would be water weight. Just try to drink lots of water to clear out any sodium etc. and stick to your diet and soon enough you'll be back to where you were before your holiday :).

I think my scale's somehow vaguely fixed itself, it's not giving me a 6lb difference in a matter of 2 minutes anymore, but it seems to still waver +/- 0.2lbs to either side, so I'm going for the middle measurement as an estimate =].

Update

23/11/07 - 126.2 down 0.2lbs.

Urgh, how frustrating. I have a horrible feeling my scale may have broken during my trip home. Grrrrrr, it's giving me really random readings, like within 2 seconds I can apparently have gained or lost up to 2lbs. Strange thing..

Thanks for the opinions :).

I think I'll try the venison burger out (I've never tried venison before...), and just have a light breakfest and lunch so I don't feel too bad about it :). If I have a starter I think I'll dare the salad, but only if the soups quite creamy.

And if you're curious Bobo, stilton is a variety of English mouldy cheese. I've never tried it before but I know lots of people who really enjoy it, so if you like strong cheeses, worth trying one day :).

I'm prone to sticking to a blended whiskey & diet ginger ale, or a gin & slimline tonic.

However if you're like me and occasionally, just occasionally want to splurge you're calories a bit, this is great.

Champions

-3 shots of gin

-1 shot lime cordial

-1 smirnoff ice

Just mix it all in a pint glass, with a bit of ice, and yumm :).

Things I seem to buy a lot which are relatively low in calorie are

Ryvita (40kcal a slice), put something on top of it and yum :).
Also, Robinsons fruit squash :). A nice low calorie way to make water taste better.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head, there are millions of  things out there. I tend to stay away from the advertised diet foods not because they're bad, but because I'm a skint student and can't afford them. Just keep your eyes peeled and I'm sure you'll be fine :).
Foods Did you cheat this weekend? what did you eat? Oct 28 2007

I cheated yesterday, but so far the scales haven't noticed...

So this is the cheat food I had yesterday

Fish & Chips (from Scotland's Fish & Chip Shop Of The Year 2006/07)
4 glasses of wine - 3 rose, 1 red
Slice of brown bread
Slice of pepperoni pizza
3 slices of garlic bread

eeeeeek

However I have been very good for the last month, so one day off isn't going to kill me. Back to normal as of today!

Hope everyone's doing well :)

If I'm way under my calories for the day then yeah, either that or leave it for a few hours and eat later :). But I try to make sure I get my 1200 before I get to sleep at night, even if I'm not hungry.

I'm prone to drinking 3 or 4 mugs of tea a day, yum :).

Just normal breakfast tea, splash of skimmed milk and a couple of sweetner and that's me sorted.

Although having said normal breakfast tea, I'm not sure if it's the same thing in America... I got a bit of a shock when I was over there last summer, when on the tea packet it said it contained orange... Not good with milk and sweetner.
A cup of tetley will do me nicely ;]

Steamed vegetables sound like a good idea :).

I think basically just try your best to stay away from things like fried rice, or chicken.

Somebody posted this link earlier and it has some quite intresting advice on eating in Chinese Restaurants :).
