| Weight Loss | Out of Control! | Apr 23 2008 20:40 (UTC) |

If you really feel like you have uncontrollable hunger-you just can't stop eating. It may be worth going to the doctor. I started getting crazing eating cravings. Just couldn't seem to eat enough sometimes. I gained 15pnds. I chalked it up to lack of control, maybe stress, but when I started noticing my hair thinning, mood swings, and my skin getting bad, I went to the doctor. It turns out hormones were out of wack. My body was producing the right levels. They put me on medication and everything has changed. I've been able to control my appetite, and I've taken off 6 of the pounds I gained. Still working on the rest-but it feels so much better to be back in control of my body. Anyway-point being, if you really don't feel like yourself, check it out. If you think it is just disipline-Good luck! |

I really liked everyone's input. Very clever with the Diva attitude! My only other thoughts are these: If you eat something like an apple or one of those new protein waters (healthy but a hunger pain preventer) right before going out, you may fight off some of those urges that hit you when you're 'starved'. Also, you may be able to resist the tempting bread basket while you're waiting. I work in events with gourmet caterers always around. The food is everywhere! But I have found that if I keep 'safe' snacks at my desk: cup a soup, nutri-grain or granola bars, mini bags of nuts, I am able to fight temptations by eating one of my own snacks instead. And they don't necessarily have to be super healthy. I love those hard caramel nips (30 calories), Reese's cookie bars (100calories), tootsie pops (60 calories), or fruit roll-ups (50 calories)-when cupcakes are coming around and almonds just won't cut it, I have one of these low cal 'candy' sweets instead. |

I'm a big fan of videos. It isn't easy for me to get out to the gym often, so the convenience of videos is perfect for me. You said you were headed off to college-which means small dorm room. I live in NYC so I appreciate small living spaces. Keep that in mind when looking for a video. There are so many great videos out there now. Sites like Overstock.com have a huge selection and most are in the $10-12.00 range. The range of videos available today is shocking. This is not your mother's Jane Fonda. You can get everything from Naked Yoga and Aerobics (I kid you not), to Goth Style Videos, to Stip Tease. I've been into the 'dance' styled ones because I forget I'm working hard when I'm paying attention to doing the moves. In particular, I've been having fun with Belly Dancing, Aerobic Hawaiian Hula, and Bollywood. What is great about sites like Overstock is that you can read the reviews that other purchasers have left. It has been a great guide for me when buying. P.S. When you get to college-most give free or cheap memberships to on campus gyms. So that is also an option Have Fun!

| Fitness | I have a few questions... | Apr 16 2008 16:09 (UTC) |

I'm not expert, but a couple of words of advise... Everything will depend on the kind of shape you are currently in. Take signals from your body. If you push yourself too hard and hurt yourself, strain your muscles or get overly sore you will be less likely to keep it up. Get help with the weights. If you are doing a move wrong you could be wasting your time, or (again) hurt yourself. Check out the Exercise tab on this site. There is a beginers section with lots of good advice. Congrats on getting started and having such enthusiasm! |

It depends so much on the recipe and what purpose the eggs are playing. Setting (like in a custard), binding (like in a cake), fluffing (like in a merange) Need more info |

That's a tough one. If it was me, I would probably log it as heavy calisthenics. Have you checked out the dance catagories. Maybe someting like that would fit best. |

I feel your pain. I use to live in the middle of no-where as well. What got me going was videos. There is such a variety, you should be able to find something you like. I've done ones with weights, yoga, belly dancing, hip-hop, muscle building, there are so many kinds. And they have gotten relatively cheap. No store near by-no problem, Overstock.com has a ton and they are mostly like 10.00 a piece. |

Have you used the calorie count tools that help you figure out how many calories to consume, based on how active you are, your body type, and goal date? Go to Tools, then calorie target, and answer the questions. Also, I'll put in a quick note that you may find 125 to be too aggressive a goal. I'm not sure because I'm not looking at a height by weight guide-but I am 5' 4" and considered a small frame, and I use to weigh 130. At that weight I was very thin. You're taller than me-so that will be very thin. I know it's all individualized and based on frame, and BMIs, etc, so who knows! But just be sure you check the healthy weight guidelines and make sure your goal is safe. |

| Foods | If you love peanut butter..... | Apr 08 2008 15:51 (UTC) |

I live in NYC and there is a restaurant in the village call Peanut Butter and Company. Virtually the whole menu is different kinds of peanut butter sandwiches. They even have a hot spicy peanut butter. REALLY GOOD! Why does peanut butter have so many calories! :( I'm not good with moderation. |

| Weight Loss | What Am I Doing Wrong? | Apr 08 2008 15:40 (UTC) |

I agree too few calories! You should never eat less than 1200. That's a standard. And depending on how much exercise you are doing you might need more. The first time I changed my lifestyle I was eating 1200 a day, doing 1hr of aerobics and 30min or more of running. I wasn't losing and getting pretty frustrated. So I started 'cheating' a little. I was treating myself to extra snacks. All of a sudden the weight started coming off. I realized after that I hadn't been eating enough. My body was probably in starvation mode. Have calorie count help you figure out your calories. Go to tools and calorie target. You answer questions about your lightstyle, weightloss goals, body type, and age and it helps you figure it all out. |

| Weight Loss | Ugh, changing habits is so hard. | Apr 08 2008 15:29 (UTC) |

I use to be the same way. Just ease yourself off and experiment. Play with your food! Trying new foods and different combinations is half the fun. It's all trial and error. Some healthy cereals, for example, are soooo good-some just plain suck. Instead of piling a lot of cheese on something-cut back with less, but a stronger flavored cheese. If you get creative, you may not even miss the sugar and fats. Also, and maybe this could be a discussion thead unto itself, I'm 26 now and have been noticing that my tastes have changed over the last couple of years. Flavors I never use to like have become new faves. And I seem to be naturally cutting back on sugars. I use to love sugary cereal too-now I think, how did I eat this stuff. Maybe it's all just a natural progression. |

I've never done pole dancing-but I'm currently doing belly dancing. I love it because with dance you get so focused on the moved you're doing that you forget how hard you're working. |

Fat-Free Pudding Cups (I like to mix in Raspberries) I love chewy candy, so I eat fruit roll-ups to curb those cravings (my husband thinks they are gross, but if you like gummies and other chewy sugary junk-and I do- it's a slightly better subsitute) Low sugar granola bars Nonni's makes a chocolate biscotti at 100cals that is delicious (and I don't even like biscotti normally, but this is like a rich cookie) Pringles makes 100cal chip cups

I love Sabra's Roasted Red Pepper Hummus and they also make one called Supremely Spicy-which fits it's name. Very spicy! I've never tried making my own, but I love these two. |

Dolphina's belly dancing for beginners was a fun way to ease into regular exercise. It is fun and you are so focused on the moves you almost don't realize the work. I've found that Overstock.com has a huge selection and tends to be much less expensive than stores for fitness videos. |

I was using it for a while. I had a medical problem that makes losing weight difficult. It did seem to help. However, I did have 2 really embarassing moments while using it. So I guess there is good and bad. |
