My grandma worked on the seating chart for my cousin's wedding. It was such a great ceremony and everyone washaving a great time until I found out I was sitting at the "kids" table (was 21 at the time). I was kind of frustrated because I could not have a glass of champagne there, and I asked my grandma why she put me there...I was obviously not a "kid" anymore. She said that she thought I needed the "practice." When I asked her what she meant by that, she said that I would obviously be needing some skills taking care of kids soon and that she had figured that I was pregnant because I had obviously gained some weight. GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...... She said this in front of our whole family.

I knew I had gained weight, but I did not think that someone else thought I was pregnant because of it. It hurt that someone did this to me without making sure, but it hurt even worse coming from grams.

You need to get over your embarassment and talk to someone. In a sense, you already have because you posted this message. If you feel terrible about yourself you need to get help because there is obviously something wrong with the way you are thinking. You need to be happy with who you are. Sorry for what you are going through.

I think we should all just ignore the super-skinny models. If we rob them of the attention that they seem to be craving andonly pay attention to the ones that are a healthy weight, "healthy" and not "skinny'" will become the norm again. This way, the models will not have to starve themselves in order to fit in to the modeling world.
I do think it is interesting that statistics show that the percentage of people that are overweight/obese is growing, but the models and stars of hollywood just seem to get thinner and thinner. Maybe they can send their personal trainers our way? LOL

I have the same problem emily6, I eat a lot of lean cuisines too. I really can't cook at all becauese of time, money, and lack of cooking utinsels.  I have one pot and a pizza pan.  The pot is big enough to cook a can of spagetti o's.

I use the GNC powder in the mixed berry flavor.  I'm not a big fan of chocolate but I heard that one is pretty good too.

I usually take a scoop of the mixed berry powder, 1/2 cup skim milk, 1/2 banana and 3 strawberries and make a type of fruit smoothie.  Not necessarily the lowest in cals, but definitely healthy enough and very tasty.

If you are just not happy with the way that your body looks, you should focus more on toning than losing weight.  I would check with the scale though too and use the tools on this site to make sure whether or not you need to lose weight or just tone up.  Good luck!
Weight Loss What did YOU do to lose weight? and how long? I really need some motivation Apr 04 2007

Well.  I lost some weight (22 lbs in 4 months) then regained it and then some (28 lbs in 5 months).  Oh well, you learn from your mistakes right?   I lost it by replacing bad foods with better foods so I did not torture myself.  For example I love taco bell tacos and dominos pizza, so I replaced those foods with a taco salad (with chicken instead of beef) and lean cuisine pizzas.  I also used them as treats, not dietary staples.

As far as exercising goes, I did a combo of TurboJam (would reccomend to anyone) and I started running.  Even though I was not particularly good at either of them, I definitely saw results.  I had lost weight before and I was actually smaller (in inches) after doing the exercises than I had been when I was at the same weight years before without exercising! It was also great in the difference in endurance and strength that I had acquired, which helped me do my job A LOT.

One thing that I have learned in this process is to eat healthy and exercise, even if you feel like you've ruined your day...or week...or month.  I think the reason that I gained all of my weight back is because I blew it on my birthday, I knew I would, but I just could not get back on track.  It all started with one piece of cheesecake and escalated into "I'll get back into it on Monday...No, I'll do it on the first of the month..."  You just need to do it.  Anything you change is a healthier you than before.  Guess that really does not answer your question.  Sorry, went off on a bored tangent.

I can do rain.  It started as rain this morning.  But now everything is frozen so I don't trust the sidewalks (ice and such).  Not enough for skiing and I don't have any skis.  This stinks.  Guess I will have to break out one of the old workout DVD's tonight, which I really didn't want to do.   Was looking forward to a nice relaxing walk.

My personal favorite is Captain Morgan and Diet Coke.  YUMMY.  Then again, after the first drink or two I really don't care about counting calories anymore.  I tend to avoid drinking too much because I ALWAYS end up eating something like mozzarella sticks or tater tots just because I get hungry and don't care anymore.
Weight Loss What do you do when you can't count the calories? Apr 04 2007
02:15 (UTC)
I can totally believe that a piece of cake is 500 calories.  I went to potbelly's a long time ago and they have my FAVORITE sugar cookie ever.  This was before CC had it and I do believe that Potbelly's still does not provide the calorie information online.  It was bugging me once when I was bored so I emailed someone at potbelly's and they told me that it was around 300 cals.  300 CALS FOR A COOKIE.  I couldn't beleive it. I only allow myself to have one per month, and only half of one per day (eat one half one day, the other the next).  THEY ARE SOOOOOO GOOD.

You and I sound very similar plaidpooka.  I smoke, chew my nails, eat too much, etc., except I have only been able to stop chewing gum.  There was a point where I was spending more money on gum than cigarettes.  How sad is that?  The only reason I could give up gum was because it always made me hungry for something else...something I could swallow.

As Mr. Garrison on Southpark would put it "Drugs are bayd."  I have tried a number of drugs for fat loss, including ones that claim that they "spot reduce."  Even if they did work a little bit, some made me fell funny and as soon as I quit taking them I gained it all back and then some.  Nothing as good as diet and exercise.  Just be patient.
Weight Loss how do I calculate how many calories I should be eating? Apr 04 2007

Under tools, either go to the activity log and enter everything in manually, or go to "expendiature" and enter your personal information and an approximate activity leveoul and the calculator will give you an estimate.  Subtract that number from your 1500 calories a day, then you have your deficit.  Hope that helps.

Weight Loss uh oh. sodium. Apr 02 2007

SOME Sodium is good. I heard somewhere that it helps regulate the body's fluid levels. EXCESS sodium is bad. On top of retaining water, someone eating a lot foods high in sodium is linked with heart disease and hig blood pressure. Remember that one TEASPOON of table salt is around the amount of sodium that a person should be consuming in a day.

EDIT: Found a good website that explains the basics: http://www.annecollins.com/sodium-diet.htm

Can of Diet Coke = 40mg of sodium. Not that bad unless you have a 6 pack a day habit. Still something to keep in mind.

Maruchan Instant lunch ramen noodles = 1,190 mg of sodium. OUCH!

Ugh. As much as it stinks hemming 3 inches off of pants just to make the pants short enough to wear 2 inch heels, I have to say that I am glad that I am too short than too tall. My dad is too tall and can never find pants that fit him without them looking like highwaters.

Also, my mom is 5'4", dad is 6'4". My dad always claims that his back problems come from leaning down to kiss my mom. LOL.

Weight Loss I need some math help... Apr 02 2007

The way I figure it out is into portions. It usually works out just fine. I have a certain number of servings of fats, proteins, carbs, veggies etc. per day. For example, I will tinker with the food log and enter 6 oz of chicken, 3 cups lettuce, 2 slices of light wheat bread, 1 tsp of butter, an apple and a banana (from my old weight loss program = 2 servings protein, 3 servings veggies, 2 carbs, 1 fat, 3 fruits). I try not to think of it in terms of percentages. Remember that a lot of foods will serve as two different categories (steak will provide protein as well as a significant amount of fat). Hope this helps a little.
