Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry I haven't been back on here!  I have only been logging on to CC to see if I have heard from anyone new on this thread.  Plus I'm embarassed to come on and tell everyone my weight gain...

I gained another 8 lbs in January!  So I'm up 22 lbs!  I'm at 152 right now.  i dont' "look" like I've gained that much.  I'm not exactly sure where it is, but I did eat good in January.  Lots of fruit, Lean Cuisines at lunch.  So I feel out of control regarding the weight.  But everybody's different, so hopefully this will slow down!  And the breast feeding comments from missjennifer are encouraging...I'm gonna try!  I am 17 weeks right now.  No kicks yet, but I find out the sex at my next month's appointment (assuming the little bugger cooperates!) on Feb 21.  I'll be 20 weeks at that time...HALF WAY!  I don't really feel pregnant, though!  I don't feel like I've bonded with the baby, but maybe that will come when the kicking starts, and when I find out the sex.  I'm REALLY really really wanting a girl!  Really bad, to the point where I'm scared I'll cry if they tell me it's a boy.  I dont' have any "feelings" about what it is, and all the predictors are split right down the middle.  I don't really believe in any of that gender predictor stuff, except "maybe" the heart rate, as it's scientific and it's specific to the baby.  I don't think it's a girl because my leg hair isn't growing fast...that's specific to me, not to the baby.  My heart rates have been 162/162/150/148, so I'm dipping down to that boy range.  But a lot of my friends' boys had high heart rates, so it's hard to tell.

Winnie, have you had the baby yet???

dietmtdew, are you on babycenter.com or any pregnancy websites or bulletin boards?  I've been on teh babycenter.com July 2007 babies site a lot, and you'd be in the same month, right?  I was just wondering if I've talked to you and not known it!  my screen name is the same on there.

Sorry for my absence -- with my weight gain, I'm trying to log my food again, so hopefully I'll be on more!  I promise to try!  :)

I hope everyone had a happy holiday!

dietmtdew - I had another doctor's appointment on 12/27.  Everything is fine.  My first 2 appointments the heart rate was 184, and at this last appointment it had slowed to 150, which is still right in the normal range.  We find out the sex on 2/21, and I can hardly wait!  I'm finally feeling better, and I can eat "normal" stuff again (i.e. not just fried chicken and hamburgers).  I can even drink water again!  I am suffering the consequences of my prior eating, though.  I've gained 14 lbs!!!  AAH!  In 12 weeks...technincally in 7 weeks, since I have only known I was pregnant for that long!  But there is some holiday weight involved, and now that I feel better I have been exercising, and I just enrolled in a prenatal fitness class that starts tomorrow.

I like the baby center website too.  I haven't done much posting or lurking on there lately, maybe I'll start again.  I'm in the 2nd trimester now!  Yay!  A magazine I got called it the "feel good trimester".  I sure hope so!

Winnie - I hope you're doing well and I hope your bundle of joy comes soon!  :)

Sorry I've been MIA again...this darn holiday season keeps us all so busy!

I got maternity pants.  My weight gain hasn't been all over, it's truly been in my belly...and my face, which doesn't pose a wardrobe challenge.  But I got some early stage maternity pants that are great!  I have to wear a belt for now to keep them up, but I know that won't last long.  But I got some great stuff, and only really splurged at one store.  Thanks to Amy for the pointers.

I felt pretty bad last week.  It's not an AM thing, it's a PM thing.  It gets worse and worse as the day goes on.  I swear it's gas!  I'm looking forward to the 2nd Trimester, which I've heard referred to as the "Feel Good Trimester", and I like the sound of that.  I'll be 12 weeks this week, so I'm nearing the home stretch!

Winnie, are you hanging in there?  It's getting closer every day!  And how are you doing, dietmtdew?  Did you have your ultrasound?  How does everything look?

jenesch - nobody's gonna hate you for not being able to gain weight.  I honestly don't know which problem is worse (although outwardly I think I'd prefer your problem to mine!)  So congratulations!  It's very exciting and welcome to the club!

dietmtdew - I was nervous too!  My hands were shaking when I told them!  It was nervous excitement, I think.  The night before I kept telling my husband, "We're going to change our parents' lives tomorrow!"

Winnie - glad you're doing well!  8 weeks!  Wow!  Hang in there and keep up the good work!  I'm still not feeling well, and eating to feel better.  I'm 10 weeks today, so I'm hoping to start feeling better soon.  But I'm showing!  I had to SQUEEZE into my formerly roomy size 6 pants this morning, and I'm taking 1/2 day tomorrow to finally go get some pants.

Would all those more experienced pregnant women out there recommend that I buy maternity pants, or maybe size 8/10 pants at this stage in the game??  I'm not sure.  I may need the 8/10 again later as I whittle away this baby weight (of which I've gained 7 lbs already...ugh.)

Thanks for the advise adavidheiser and winnie.  I think I'll lay off the milk, if nothing else because of the fat and sugar in chocolate milk!  and if it helps my mucus situation, all the better!  But it's instantly soothing.  It's hard not to be hung up on the scale, since I've been hung up on the scale for years.  So I'm trying to find the fine line between "it's okay to gain a little weight right now" and "I'm pregnant, I can eat this!"  Hopefully when I reach the 2nd trimester I'll be feeling better, able to eat better (and not just to feel better) and I'll be able to exercise more.

I've been eating as healthily as I can, but it's just bread that makes me feel good.  Tonight I had eggs sunny side up with toast, the way my mom used to eat, all chopped up.  Yummy!  I haven't been getting in much vegetables...maybe a green bean casserole is in order.  Yum...I'd LOVE to make one more egg, my appetite is just insaciable!  I've been eating lean cuisines for lunch at work, and I just wish they made a "hungry man's" version, but that would defeat the purpose of "lean".

My announcement went well too!  When we arrived, my husband got the cookies, and I gave them to my mother-in-law and I said, "We made these, but I don't know where to put them."  Without taking off the lid, she said, "What are they?" and I told her to open them.  So she did, she looked at them (and I told my mom to look what I made, too) and my M-I-L looked at me, looked at the cookies and said, "You're not!  You are?  You're not!!  Oh, you are!!!"  And she screamed, and cried, and everyone (my husband's brothers and sisters-in-law, grandparents, great-grandma, sister) was like, "What's going on?"  So I told them that I was gonna have a baby!  So everyone was very excited.  It's the first for everyone (first great-great grandchild, great-grandchild, grandchild, and niece/nephew in the family!)  So it was very exciting and worth the wait!

Still feeling puny.  I think it's all related to nasal drainage, when my nose is running, that's when I feel like crap.  But I had my ultrasound yesterday, and we saw the baby (just one, fortunately!) and heard the heartbeat at 162 bpm, so it really feels real now!  I'm 9 weeks this week.  dietmtdew, I saw the doctor early because I couldn't get a positive result from "peeing on the stick", so I needed the bloodwork done.  But with 10 "+'s" rest assured that you're pregnant, and I'm sure it will feel real when you go to the Dr. and hear the heartbeat in a couple weeks!  Oddly enough, though, I'm not fatigued.  I've gained 5 lbs, though!!!  Yikes.  But it was downright cruel to weigh me on the monday following Thanksgiving...hell, I would've gained 2 lbs without being pregnant!  :)

Thanks Winnie!  I haven't thrown up, but I'm miserable feeling so "puny" all the time.  I'm beginning to understand how my dad felt going through chemo.  It's not "that" bad, but as miserable as I am, I can begin to understand how badly he felt!  I'll try to force myself on the treadmill every night, as I have heard that it helps.  I'm needing the bread, too.  Not craving so much as knowing it's all that will make me feel better.  Mmmmm...bagels!  :)

Winnie - Sorry I've been MIA for a couple days!  Yes, I'll explain to all people there that any alcohol I've been seen drinking over the past month and a half were just a "rouge" and none was actually consumed.  That thought crossed my mind too!

dietmtdew - The countdown has begun!  I'm just glad that in 3 days I won't have to pretend that I don't feel like crap!  Friday the sickness came on!  It seems that the one thing that makes me feel better is eating (crackers, bread, dry cereal) but there is almost nothing that sounds yummy to me.  I haven't thrown up, but I almost did at a Schlotsky's on Sunday.  But I feel like I'm eating constantly, and there's nothing I can do about watching my weight if eating is the only thing that keeps me from throwing up.  So for a while I'm throwing in the towel on eating healthy.  Now I'm just eating to feel good.  It hasn't been that bad calorie wise, though.  I'll get a sandwich for lunch, eat half at lunch, 1/4 an hour later, and the rest an hour after that.  When that goes away, I'll go back to healthy eating.  I'm just worried that at 8 weeks it's going to get worse before it gets better!  :(  Are you having any of these issues?

I've scheduled my first appointment on the Monday after Thanksgiving.  Yes, that'll put me at 8 weeks.  But I had bloodwork done because I couldn't register a + from a pregnancy test even 5 days AFTER I missed my period (I guess I'm special!)  But I guess ~8 weeks is normal.  I did go in a couple of weeks ago for a nurse consultation, which was a freebie giveaway and a question and answer session.  But I didn't see the doctor.  But in a week they'll be doing lots of bloodwork (I have a MAJOR needle phobia!), a pap and the ultrasound, so I'm hoping we'll hear the heartbeat so I can feel comfortable telling more people than just family.  I would think that your Dr. would be willing to confirm your pregnancy with bloodwork if you ask.

Thanks everyone!  I just can't wait to tell our parents (and my husband's grandparents, and great grandma, and brothers and sisters -- I've just got my mom).  I'm going to have a fake beer at my boss's  house tomorrow when my mother in law goes there with me.  Either O'douls or water in a Bud Light bottle.  Just to throw her off.  I don't think she's on the trail, but if she is, it'll throw her right off!  :)

dietmtdew - I told my husband the cookies idea, and he wants to do that!  He didn't like the ribbon around the belly idea (silly man!) but I like the cookies thing, because that plan lets me bake cookies -- one of my favorite things to do, particularly when I don't have to eat all the cookies afterward!  So I think we're going to go with that.  I'm so excited, I can hardly wait to tell them!  I want to hear all about your family's reaction, too!  Oh, and I did a little research on aspartame, and some websites said it was okay to consume, but mainly suggested to avoid it because pregnancy wasn't a time to be cutting back on calories.  So you're probably OK.  I hate regular pop now (just discovered that one) so I'm going to skip on soda altogether, I think.  Oh, and I'm on babycenter, too!  I haven't done much exploring, and hadn't even seen the message boards, so I'll go check them out!

Winnie - you're getting down to the wire!  Way to go not binging on a day off...that's TOUGH!  I'll have to watch during the holidays.  Of course I'm going to eat a lot on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas, but you know, we only get these holidays once a year!!!  I've learned to focus on the days surrounding these holidays.  That way I don't feel deprived.

Congrats Taylorn!  So you only gained 29, and lost 20 at delivery!  That's exactly what I want to do.  You're an inspiration!  I hope you're getting some sleep, and having a good time with your new babe!  :

Thanks again everyone!  I haven't been on here since early yesterday, so I don't know what this bad comment was from beth (? I guess it was deleted???  Or did I miss it??)  But the thought that anyone would get on this string of wonderful pregnant women, and mothers with advice, and even people without children giving well wishes, and make mean statements makes me sick.  I'm actually glad I didn't see it.  Some people...

That aside, thanks again to everyone!  All the kind hearted people on here are much appreciated.

dietmtdew - That's a great idea with the cookies.  A friend of mine at work announced to coworkers with cupcakes iced pink and blue, so if they can't do cookies, there's an idea for you.  I was going to tie a pink and blue ribbon around my waist and see how long it took people to pick up on it, but my husband doesn't like that, and wants to do cards to everyone ("You're going to be a Grandma", etc.), and he wants some more ideas, so we'll see what we do.  I'll let you know!  I want to hear how it goes for you, too!  Aren't these last 1.5 weeks gonna KILL you!  I'm dying here!  I wanna tell everyone!

Oh, and my nurse said no artificial sweeteners with aspartame, so no standard diet sodas.  But you know, it seems different doctors have different opinions on this stuff.  I asked about splenda, and the nurse didn't know for sure.  I like less than 1/2 packet in my hot decaf tea, and I can't imagine less than 1/2 packets will hurt me.  When I see the doctor, I'm going to ask, though.

Winnie - I went to the store today, so I'm finally prepared to eat good food!  I've got fruit for my snacks tomorrow at work.  And it's funny, but I bought pickles!  Not a craving, though.  I've always liked pickles, I just finally found a jarred pickle type I like!  I got a kick out of it -- pregnant woman buying pickles!  :)

Corral42 -- I was looking at your pictures, and I saw your puggie!  Also, you've got a Vette...I'm a vette kid!  My parents were founders of a local corvette club and I grew up around vettes and other vette kids and I LOVE them!  I don't have one, technically, but my dad passed away in February (he was the biggest corvette enthusiast I've ever known!) and my Mom and I share his old vette.

I just wanted to thank everyone!  That's just what I needed to hear, and I think I'll print these posts just to remind myself next time I decide I "NEED" those Peanut M&Ms at work, or I "MUST" bake brownies (that was a recap of my last 2 days, by the way, but also something I struggled with pre-pregnancy!)  I'm going to the grocery tomorrow for the first time in 3 weeks, so I'll be prepared after I buy plenty of healthy things to snack on.  It's detrimental to not have any food in the house (except for the brownie mix, that is...)

Beverages sure suck!  I just switched to diet, but now that I can't have it, I'm visiting my old friend Cherry Coke.  Ugh.  I'd prefer diet, really.  I'll be keeping that to a minimum, but it really sucks.  There is NOTHING we can drink!  I'm going to get lemonade, but it's just all chock full of sugar.  I love water, but sometimes you can't just drink water, that's life!

I was also glad to hear from all the pug people!  Corral42 & dietmtdew I was glad you saw my puggie!  We're major pug people.   Just like yours dietmtdew, Daisy is in for a rude awakening when the baby comes!  She'll do great, but she's going to have to lay off the barking, that's for sure!

I was also glad to hear from all the other expecting mothers...we can be a great support system for each other!  So let's keep in touch on CC and we can help each other out!
Weight Loss 120's/110's club anyone? Oct 25 2006

I want to join!  I'm 5'2", and I have been around 128 since I joined in June.  I just can't seem to stick with healthy eating 7 days a week, and logging my food in c-c regularly.  I've been running a lot, and competing in races, and I would've hoped that would've kick started some weight loss, but no luck.  So, I'd like the support.  Some web groups that I've been on (not c-c so much) have been less than supportive of my goals, some even claiming that wanting to be 110-115 was "vein"!  I think 110-115 is perfectly in line with my 5'2", small frame.  So it will be nice to have some support!

I've rededicated myself this week, but I've got LOTS of travel coming up, which will be difficult, but I will do my best, and maybe even take a laptop along SOLELY to log my food!  Also, my hubbie and I are trying to get pregnant -- might throw a wrench into my weight loss plans, but I fully intend not to gain a lot of weight during pregnancy!  Any pointers in that area would be appreciated too!

Has this worked for anyone?

I'm thinking about trying it this month, and would just like to know if it's been met with faster results.  So far nothing I do has been met with any results, though I'm sure it's my fault to an extent.  I'm running a lot, so I guess I thought that was supposed to make me lose weight.

But I haven't been logging, or watching lately, as I find myself in a funk.  I'm snapping out of my funk, so hopefully my focus can return.

You know, once in a while, a girl has to have a diet coke.  I vote for using it in moderation.  I drink water with lemon all day long, but I enjoy a Diet Black Cherry Vanilla Coke with my lunch.  I'd rather quit drinking pop all together, rather than to switch back to regular, like if I was pregnant for example.  Empty calories, and the switch to diet was so hard for me.

Thanks everybody!  I mustered up some courage and called my doctor, and he's out all week, which is not good.  But their nurses referred me to a local therapist, and I'm trying to get up the courage to call him.  I did call, but got their machine, so they may be out this morning.  EMDR therapy sounds interesting, and sounds like it would help me, so we'll see what the guy referred to me has to offer.

My boss called and wants to meet me to talk this afternoon, so I'm kind of nervous about that, but she is a friend, not just a boss.  She sees first hand how I'm acting/reacting and I'm hoping the conversation will be a helpful one for me.  Maybe eye opening.  So we will see.  Hopefully I can apologize...I feel like she bears the brunt of my emotions, though that is not my intention.  She is the "dream" boss everyone would want, and I never intended to make life difficult on her.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the help.  I really appreciate some outside advice on this topic.  My husband, while he means well, tends to offer the "you're thinking about it too much" or "don't worry about it" type of counsel which isn't as helpful as he might think.

My insurance is an issue.  I have "great" insurance, but I signed up for a fund which paid for everything up to $1000, but my fund is gone (I hurt my back which drained my fund), and now I get to pay for everything until I spend $1500.  I'm $500 in, but I'm not sure I can pay a great deal of money right now.  But it is my health, and surely I can do it for my health.

I definitely need someone to help me talk through my feelings.  Help to stop reacting to things the way I do would be great, as would figuring out why I react the way I do.  I don't want to sabotage myself at work, that won't be good for anyone.  But I'm also worried about the way I'm making those who work close to me feel.  I'm sure my boss is just exhausted by dealing with me, but I really respect her and don't want to do that to her anymore.

Thanks to both of you!  I will see my FP to see what he has to say.  I'm scared, but I'll try.

I do enjoy a protein drink from time to time.  I find them a good way to increase my calorie intake, as sometimes I struggle with gettin enough calories in.  It seems a good way to pack some calories with protien, rather than carbs.  I don't know what the weightloss benefits are or are not, so I'll be interested to hear the responses from people on this one too.
Weight Loss Losing and gaining the same lbs Sep 16 2006

I understand.  I believe the weekends to be my biggest downfall as well.  It's easy for me to eat good at work.  I eat what I bring to work with me, and if I bring fruit and cottage cheese, and a salad for lunch, I'm guaranteed to eat good that day.  But on the weekends, I'm left with whatever's in the fridge here.  I would recommend trying to really focus this weekend on maintaining a deficit.  This will regain your confidence and remind you that you can eat well on the weekends.

And don't feel too bad about eating good on your anniversary.  I don't think that weight loss is maintainable if you can't use special occasions to indulge a bit.  And IMO if you gain it in 2-3 days, you can re-lose it as fast if you don't maintain eating that way.

I myself give you kudos for working in a bakery and remaining so svelte!  I LOVE to bake...it's the only thing I can think of that I could do 40 hours a week and enjoy (doesn't say much for my current job, though!)  However, if I worked in a bakery, I would weigh about 900 lbs, I think.  So good for you!

Some of us are just unfortunate to hold on to weight in the midsection.  It's one of the  last places I lose weight.  Try lots of crunches.  You can do about 600 crunches in 10 minutes, and I try to mix it up between standard, legs up, oblique, and on-my-butt crunches.  That gives me strong crunches.  I just know I've got a 6 pack, it's just insulated in a soft pudgy cooler!

Are you able to eat regularly at your job?  You might benefit by eating more often...like 5 small meals per day, rather than 2-3 larger ones.  But that really depends on the type of job you have.  I tend to have a good snack (usually fruit) after breakfast and another good snack (usually cottage cheese) after lunch.  But some jobs aren't conduciver that.

I do however get people who tease me for eating "all day long".  I guess that's the downside!

I was a treadmill runner...and probably will be again come Winter!  Anywho, last year I ran regulalrly on the treadmill at 5 mph.  I did a 5K and not knowing my pace, I actually shaved 9 minutes off my time.  I also noticed that my knee hurt a little on account of the non-flat surface.  I survived, though, and you will too!  Just pace yourself, and you'll do just fine.

Good luck!
Fitness Need advice from Runners Sep 06 2006

The achiness was in my upper legs.  I just feared that my leg muscles were overly fatigued doing the 2 mile walk at about 4 mph (which I guess is brisk), then 4 hours later doing the 3 mile run.  That may have been too much for me at this point in the game.

Yeah, i'm short on time, but I don't have to run the whole thing.  If I can survive a run-walk of 10K, I will be estatic at that!  I don't have a time frame to finish the race, I just want to finish.

Thanks for the carb advice, too Geo!  I may be in over my head on a 10K, but I guess you can't blame a girl for trying!  It's given me something to focus on lately, too.

Thanks everyone!  I'm really watching my carbs leading up to this race, focusing on low GL fruits and veggies as my primary source for carbs.  I'm going to get back into my protein shakes, too, though I'm happy with where my deficit is today, so maybe tomorrow.  Perhaps this weekend I'll go for a long run just to try it out.  If I have to walk a little, so be it!  I'll take it easy though, the week before.  I'm glad you guys told me to do that, I hadn't given that any thought!  Would you recommend carb loading the night before?  I know a competitive runner who does it, but I don't know if the benefits are real, or would benefit a 10K run.

Jenn - I read your post about your 2 hour run, that's amazing!  You may be new to running, but sounds like you're quite good at it!

My legs may also be burning because I went for a brisk 2 mile walk during lunch today.  That's probably contributing as well.

I'd love to hear anyone else's training regimens and recommendations too!  Thanks for the input!
