I must say, I am constantly impressed by spacedreamergirl.  You are doing this challenge for us with such style.  You are encouraging and cheerful, knowledgeable about weight loss and physical challenges, and not condescending.  And there is no reward, other than participation.  What a selfless, kind and inspiring person you are!  Thanks for doing this for all of us.

angeling  - I feel for you.  When I was  younger, my food budget was always tight, but I agree, you really have to do something.  First of all, get rid of the deep fryer, a baked potato (sweet potato is even better) has a lot less calories and is healthier.  You probalby cannot buy a lot of meat so you have to substitute with beans and eggs.  You can make a tasty black bean chile with mainly canned ingredients: 1 can of black beans, 1 can of red or white beans, 1 can of zesty Del Monte tomatoes, some frozen or fresh corn and a spritz of lime or lemon and some celantro of parsely (optional).  Saute 1 onion, add all the above ingredients, salt and pepper to taste.  Cook only with olive oil, dont use butter or margarine, buy fresh corn, tomatoes, cucumbers and melons.  Is there any way you can get a little more than $20 towards you food by giving up something else.  Look online to see if you can get cheap, simple recipes that don't require much experience.  You can do it!

Also, you don't need to go on some crazy exercise program, just walk: 1/2 hr daily....even if you don't like it.  You are going to lose faster if you move.  It also greatly releaves stress.  Good luck!

jredig: Wow!  I am impressed.  You are so dedicated.  The only thing I would change, is to add a little fat (like olive oil in your salad etc.)  I eat a Nature Valley trail mix bar for breakfast that lasts til mid morning.  My snack then is a low fat Activia yogurt 1-2 times a day.  I usually have a little meat for lunch and dinner with vegetables sauteed in olive oil and herbs or a salad and some chicken strips.  I make my own dressing (olive oil, wine vinegar, salt).  Where I am not so consistent is late in the evening.  That is my biggest problem.  I am sick of carrots and pickles and grab anything...not good, I know.  You are so much better.   Liz

melssy54:  What do  you mean by having a hard t ime to eat protein?  Is it meat?  There is protein in yogurt, eggs, cheese, and vegetables as well.  Legumes like lentils, beans, etc. have lots of protein.  If you don't eat enough protein, you probably have a diet high in sugar/starch.  I found that when I eat more starch  (I am not a big meat fan), I have a harder time losing, much harder.  A little piece of meat (the size of  your palm) and fresh vegetables and some lowfat yogurt for snacks and cereal for breakfast is what I do.  And of course, no snacks after dinner.....good luck!

lamoi: From what I understand is that the reason one is "stuck" at a certain weight is due to the brain's conservation of energy mode when not eating enough.  You can get yourself out of this mode by eating a little more to reset your thermostat.  Good proteins are the best way to do that.  I would just try it for a week (a day or 2 are not enough to achieve a result) and see what happens.  Just be carefult with the sugar/starch stuff when increasing your intake.  Good luck.  Let us all know how you are progressingl.  Liz

Reagan:  Actually, I don't think it will be that bad.  I had Lyme disease.  You will be on antibiotics for a while but those don't contribute to weight gain.  Lack of energy, however, is a problem, but that should subside with the antibiotics.  I wish you well.
