Thank you all for the very sweet comments about our wedding photo.  I don't know that I will ever feel quite as beautiful on any other day than my wedding...it was just the best feeling in the world.

Thank you also for the encouragement.  I definitely got "back in the saddle" today.  I went for a long walk with our pup and have been eating well.  Plus, the scale numbers went down this morning, so I'm feeling pretty well!

Also--I love Target : )

I have another question for those of you who journal--do you write for other people to read, or do you mostly just write it to write it?  I'm trying to decide if I want to commit to it...

thanks for the words of support, kiigan.  one of the things I know I'm struggling with is that I was a little obsesive about my new liftstyle for the first 5 weeks.  Then I got busy at work and in my personal life, and I don't have as much time to read the forums or articles about motivation and weight loss, or do any of the things that kept my mind on track.  It was working really well for me, but now I'm worried about what to do when I get busy again in the future...

hi everyone...it's been so long since I've posted.  I was out of town on two conference trips at the beginning of this month and since then I haven't been able to get back in my groove.  I was writing down everything I ate and exercising at least a half hour every day (usually a rigourous walk with our pup) before I left, but since I've been home I just haven't been able to get back in the mode.  I have maintained my weight--I think I've trained my body to crave good things and not snack as much, but I'm slowly returning to bad habits.  I haven't even wanted to post here because I'm disappointed in myself.

I just need some encouraging words to get back on track...and maybe some tips on how to do that after having hit a wall for a couple weeks now.

It sounds like you're all doing really well--I'm proud of you all : )

kiigan--that can be really frustrating to me, too.  As someone who struggles with my own insecurities, I hate to see it developing so early in some young women...it's so hard.  Thanks for encouraging my goals.  I'm still aiming for 140 by May 12th and I think I'll look for hitting 135 by July 4th.  Then, it's maintenence time for me (I'm 5'7", so I think that will be a good weight for me--though I still need to convert some weight into muscle mass : )

I also hate deciding between food and alcohol--I was at a conference last week and had a few more drinks than I expected : (

lily--way to go on checking out your "size," but still seeking a goal.  I am hopefully going to wait a little before I splurge on some new clothes, too.  It's hard to wait sometimes, though!

Yesterday's splurge was a little more than I expected and I gained a pound today--up to 147.5.  But, today is a new day and I am on track for my normal calories : )

Keep up the hard work, all--it is so encouraging to read your messages (even when I can't keep up!)

hey everyone--thanks for sharing all the info about your workout routines and drinks and such.  I forget sometimes that I might end up in a rut and it's nice to hear about new ideas.

The scale went up to 146.5 this morning, but it probably has something to do with being back in a normal eating routine again.  I hadn't slept in almost 24 hours after my conference and I am sort of feeling all of it now.  Nonetheless, I'm feeling really good about my new weight.  Hopefully I don't hit a plateau soon--my goal is still 140 by May 12, and I would really like to hit 135.

I'm having the pants fitting problem, too!  I have always worn slightly loose fitting khakis and such to work, and when I put them on last week, they literally could come off without unbuttoning them.  It's a great feeling (though I don't have the cash to replace my whole pants wardrobe).  Unfortunately, my bras don't fit anymore either : (

Glad to hear so many of you are doing so well.

hi everyone--sorry I didn't post last week.  I was at a conference and wasn't keeping track of my exercise hours.

I'm down to 146 today...I'll try and log my efforts this week and report on Friday...if this is still up and running?

hi everyone!  I just got back from a six day trip to a conference, and despite not being able to find a lot of good eating choices, I'm down to 146 today!!

I'll try and catch up with all the posts tomorrow...

hello again, everyone!  you are all so talkative!  Hopefully I'll be able to keep up here.  I have been below 150 for the last few days, so I'm in!

I've been trying to work weight training into my excercise routine, but haven't found any workouts that I enjoy (or feel comfortable doing).  Anyone willing to share some routines that will help me tone up now that I'm losing?

good morning everyone!  The last two mornings I've weighed in at 148.5!  However, I'm off to Orlando today for the next week, so I'll wait before I make any moves...but it looks like I'll be down to the 140's group with you all!!

Carie--you can do it!  Holding yourself accountable is definitely a good step.  Do you log your workouts like you log your food?  I personally use a written sheet (instead of logging on the web) because I can carry it with me--there's nothing more accountable than opening up a notebook and seeing what you've eaten and how much you've actually worked out in the last week (or the last six).  That's what is working for me in the accountability department anyway : )

welcome Perfidia!

good morning, all.  Welcome bernzy!  this group (and all the similar ones, to my knowledge) is/are very supportive and great to be a part of.  it's been really nice to have this outlet.  sometimes, the other people in our worlds are not concentrating on their eating/exercise habits quite as much as we are, and this is a nice place to talk together.  Congrats on the choice to make your lifestyle change--going to college is such a big change, but you can do it : )

I'm still at 151--hoping to be in the 140's group sometime next week!

I like the special k idea, too.  I usually eat a "clif" bar for breakfast--a little more energy and fiber than your usual granola bar.

mcboddy--I certainly can eat my fair share (I love double cheeseburgers from wendy's with and extra piece of cheese--they are my biggest temptation : )  There's just something about yogurt that makes me stop wanting to eat it half way through, not sure why.  A cup of grapes is still my favorite snack--62 calories!

I'm currently at 150.5 and counting (averaging about 2 lbs. loss a week).  My highest was 173 and my goal is 130.  I'd like to make it to 140 by May 12th when I go on my (belated) honeymoon cruise!  Hopefully, I'll come back from the trip without gaining too much.  We're planning to be really active while we're gone...

Hi everyone!  I am still in the 150s group, but I just thought I'd stop in and say hello because I'll be here soon : )  You all seem very supportive and I'm excited to join this community!

p.s. I like yogurt, but don't love it (can't eat a full container before I get tired of it).  Dannon makes these new "light and fit" cups using Splenda--I got a family pack and each one is only 45 calories, so I get all the yummy benefits of yogurt, but in a smaller portion--they are fantastic snacks.

hi everyone--it's been awhile since I've had a chance to post!

I'm holding strong at 150/151, but hopefully will see a little loss this week.  It's been great to get out and do so much outside since it's been warm here in the midwest (maybe 80 degrees today--record high!).

congrats to those of you who broke through some barriers (way to go carie!!).  Sometimes we just hit plateaus and even though we're working hard, our bodies are just happy where they are : )

also--my personal philosophy is that we can't be perfect all the time and to expect perfect eating habits every moment of every day is setting ourselves up for failure.  It is better to say, okay, that was a splurge and figure out how we might make up for it over the next week or so.  What is more important is to set healthy and realistic goals for ourselves, both in terms of exercise and eating : )  Okay, schpiel over!

Keep working hard all!

Welcome newcomers!

prettybowen--I use the generic version of One-A-Day Weight Smart and I haven't noticed a big difference.  I stopped taking it daily, though, because it upsets my stomach a bit if I haven't eaten right before I take it.

I've been trying not to step on the scale everyday.  It's been different to go from not having one at all to seeing it everytime I walk into the bathroom.  It seems this is a different attitude than lots of others...just what works for me, I guess.  I'm trying not to get too carried away over every pound, and just do what feels good.  Lucky for me, that's working all right.  The scale read 150.8 this morning!  140's, here I come!

Also, now that I'm losing the weight I'm trying to tone up, too...anyone have favorite weight or strenth routines?

Thanks for the scale thoughts--it's just been so long since I've even owned one!  I tend to go more by how I feel and how my clothes fit.

Success though (I think) for the week.

C: 152.5 lbs.

L: 5 lbs. (original weight in evening--this weight in morning)

EH: 7 hrs.

Good luck!

well according to the scale, I was 152.5 today : )  Who knows how accurate it is, but I'm okay with what it said!

I've been struggling with little splurges here and there, but am also thinking that now that I'm working out more, I need a little more energy (I had cut my calories quite a bit).

Have a good weekend all--thanks for the advice.  Unfortunately I don't belong to a gym right now, but am thinking about rejoining a former one.  I just didn't use it enough to get my money's worth--I like to be outside!

does anyone have a helpful suggestion for accurate weight measurement?  My husband and I have bought 2 different scales this week (both digital) and they both seem a little inaccurate.  Also--they won't weigh my hand weights on their own (they're "touch" sensitive or something, so you have to have your socks off to weigh).  Unless I really lost a half pound in 15 minutes last night and another 3 pounds by this morning, I'm not really feeling comfortable trusting this scale.  We can't afford something really expensive.  Should we stay away from digital?

We went so long without a scale that this is sort of frustrating...help!

hi all.  I'm just "moving in" from the 160 club.  I am 5'7" and currently at 157.5 lbs.  My ideal weight is 135, but my goal is 145 for now.  I'm not keeping track of my food online, but rather on a printed out food/activity log I made myself.  That way, I can take it with me and I won't forget anything later in the day when I finally have internet access.  It's working really well for me.  I'm trying to stay between 1200-1600 calories/day and eat more fruits and veggies.

Looking forward to chatting more and keeping updated!

Hi everyone!  I'm new to the message board, but this looked like it would be a helpful motivator for me. I haven't weighed myself in two weeks or so, but last time I checked, I was at 162.8.  I am 5'7" and used to be quite athletic.  My ideal weight is 130, but my goal for May 12th (my hubby and I's belated honeymoon cruise) is 145.

I've been using the site for a couple weeks to help me log my eating and excercise habits.  I'm counting calories and trying to eat more vegetables (they're not my favorite).  I've gradually put on 30 pounds in the last six years and I want it gone!

After three weeks of recording my diet and excercise, I've noticed a couple personal areas to work on--I splurge on the weekends when we are out with friends and just on the go; I have a hard time motivating myself to go workout if my husband has already worked out and I need to do it on my own.  Plus, I sprained my ankle two weeks ago, and I can't run as much as I was before.

That's my story--I look forward to keeping up with everyone : )
