| Mine would have to be Playstation 3, although I don't currently own one. The Wii had some great new ideas, but it's just not my thing. I consider it more for parties and social gaming rather than "serious" gaming. ;) Xbox360 is ok... although I've noticed I've been playing more of the arcade games than the normal games. I don't find anything that special about it, but it came out long before the PS3, so that's maybe the main reason I bought it. At the moment I'm renting a PS3 from work (this week in fact), and while the games that came with it aren't that good, I really like it. The graphics are wonderful, and I like that you can charge the controllers with USB rather than just batteries like the Xbox360. The motion sensor in the controller is fun too. I'm definitely getting one when the price comes down a bit, and there are more good games available for it. |

| Weight Loss | What is the craziest diet you've ever tried? | Nov 27 2006 11:25 (UTC) |

| I tried the apple diet too (more than 10 years ago now), except I also had a few small pieces of boiled chicken once a day. I have no idea why the chicken, it wasn't because I thought I needed protein. Then I became vegetarian and it was back to only apples. I actually kept that one up for a very long time, and I think I even lost weight too. I guess I'm lucky I still love apples so much, even after that. | |||

| On a good day, I'll be around 600-700, with 500-600 to spare for dinner and evening snacks. Lately I've been struggling though, and I'm not sure what it is any more. |

| Weight Loss | favorite food ever? | Nov 07 2006 20:36 (UTC) |

| Plain pasta, any shape will do, boiled in salted water. I'm not against adding a tiny bit of olive oil and black pepper to it, but for me plain is always best. :D | |||
| Foods | cottage cheese | Nov 07 2006 14:18 (UTC) |

| This might be a stupid question... but you're saying that cottage cheese actually melts like normal cheese? And can be used in the same way that you would use cheese on pizza, on top of some oven dishes etc.? I always assumed that since it looks so different, it doesn't quite work that way... | |||

| I can completely get where you're coming from with the denial. :D I don't have a dryer, so I couldn't use that excuse... but I did have several pairs of pants and skirts and dresses that I couldn't comfortably get into any more, and I just somehow justified it to myself. Now I've gotten to a point where they all fit, so it's just about losing the last bit of weight and getting into better shape for me. Good luck Christine! |

| I like salmon soup... it's basically onion and salmon cubes boiled in skimmed milk with some herbs and spring onion for taste. You can have it with potatoes or pasta, and some good dark rye bread. Or then Japanese style - sashimi, my favourite! |

| Weight Loss | what is your typical day food-wise? | Nov 04 2006 19:13 (UTC) |
13 |
| Hmm... typical day for me: Breakfast: All-bran original with skimmed milk, orange juice and an espresso Snack1: 2 carrots, tea Lunch: Raw salmon or boiled egg whites with salad, low-fat cottage or mozzarella cheese, and tea Snack2: Either a tomato, tangerine, apple, low-fat yoghurt etc. Dinner: Wholegrain pasta with chicken breast and steamed broccoli Snack3: Espresso, and depending on how many calories are left, some fruit, carrots, yoghurt etc. I drink about 2-3 litres of water a day, not sure how much that is in ounces. |

| I agree with athena, it's only one semester. I'm someone for whom a long distance relationship and living abroad has become a success story. The relationship was painful, and our phone bills were monstrous, but I didn't doubt that we'd manage. And for me, it was 2 years of long-distance relationship that I had to get through, so I really think if you are both committed, then a semester will be just fine. And these days, communication is so much easier with the internet, especially Skype. :D London is a very interesting place to live (was my home for 4 years or so), and I think you grow a lot as a person if you have to learn to live with something you are not used to. At least, when I left the UK to live in Finland, it changed me a lot. I was a bit homesick, but it didn't last long - and that's what phones and the internet are for! Europe is great, enjoy the opportunity and have fun! |

| Weight Loss | Bad habit of weighing yourself every day! | Nov 04 2006 18:48 (UTC) |
2 |
| I used to weigh myself every day. Then I decided I was getting obsessed (I also got pretty depressed when the scale went up by a bit), so I managed to cut down to twice a week and then once a week. It wasn't easy... I managed to do it by changing my spreadsheet (where I log everything) so that there were only spaces to enter my weight twice a week. Unfortunately, this backfired on me. Instead of relaxing, I ended up being even more scared of getting on the scales, because after a week, who knows what might have happened? ;) Sometimes I would even leave 2 weeks in between weighing, and then I would be very nervous about getting on the scales again. This morning I decided enough was enough, and I got on the scales - and I'm going to get back into daily weighing. Because the weight cannot change as much in a day as it can in a week, so at least I will feel more in control. But that's just my experiences with the whole thing... hope you find a solution that works for you. |

| Well, if you think it's cold in London, it's even colder in Finland! We just had a huge amount of snow, and for the last few days it's been around -10C or so. That's around 14F. I find the colder weather has me wanting more soups, stews... that kind of thing. Although I can sympathise with you, since I've always been a carbohydrate/pasta addict myself. Good luck with your goals! | |||
| Motivation | My second day and it's harder....is this normal? | Oct 25 2006 08:21 (UTC) |

| Well, for me it was a bit weird. When I started, it was so easy I was really surprised. I managed to keep my calories at the recommended amount, eat healthy foods, exercise, and the weight came off fast. But then after about 3 months, I suddenly started wanting to eat more, and since then it's been a struggle every day to stick to the routine. I have no idea why. | |||

| There was a time when this happened to me, and I'd go without for anything up to 12 months. I never saw a doctor about it, and I'm fine now. But I could always bring it back temporarily by eating a decent amount of red meat (liver, fillet steak etc.). I don't know if it was psychological or if the iron in the meat helped, but this always worked for me. Perhaps that's why I never saw a doctor - I knew I could bring it back when I wanted, so I never really stressed about it. I'm not saying any of this was healthy... just what happened to me. | |||

| I know my parrots both love sunflower seeds, but they (the experts) recommend not to give too many because they're so high in fat and low in other nutritional things that parrots need... On the other hand, I have no idea how that relates to people. :) | |||

| Weight Loss | To anyone who thinks they're the most unattractive being in the known universe | Oct 12 2006 12:18 (UTC) |

| Hey, this one is a question related to something hkellick wrote a bit earlier...
"Willow, seriously, I can not repeat this enough times. Men may lust over the perky boobs and the tight waist, etc... but they WANT to go home with a real woman, not a plastic barbie doll. I can not stress this enough. What hollywood sells is a fantasy, a wet dream, what we want to go home with is much more grounded in reality." So my question is, if men do lust over what you mentioned above, why would they want to go home with a real woman? Why would you not want to go home with the fantasy, if the fantasy also happens to be a wonderful person? Why would someone who looks more normal or real be the better choice? I'm not trying to be confrontational here, but I am very curious. :) |

| Weight Loss | Feeling down, and could use some weight loss advice... | Sep 21 2006 07:27 (UTC) |

| Hello Han,
Those are interesting points. I'm already planning to take vitamin supplements, so I'm sure including iron will not be a problem. I definitely need to take some time out for myself, so it's something I'll be working on. And I love raw foods (whether it's vegetable or meat/fish :P), so eating more of those will be a lot of fun for me. :D Thanks for the ideas! I'll let you know how it goes... |

| Thanks to both of you for the replies, it's really nice to get the support, and to hear that other people have gone through this too.
And yes, nomoreexcuses, you have it right in your summary of my situation. And I think I will take your advice - I'll try to do something completely different exercise-wise for a while. I'm not getting enough sleep... I'm definitely an 8-hours-a-night person, but lately (quite a long "lately" now) I've been getting 6.5-7 hours, and it's not fun. I'll have to try to make some changes at work and at home, so I have more time for myself. It's hard for me not to focus so much on the scale... I'm a very results/numbers orientated person who likes to see things in black and white. But I'll try. :) Thanks a lot for the advice. |

| Thank you for your thoughts, clairelaine. I am actually keeping measurements - I measure once a month. Actually, even last month's measurements were not so dramatic compared to the previous. In the last month, I lost less than half an inch from my waist and thighs, and less than an inch from my hips... it's all in my profile. :) So that's not really helping me feel better.
I will try to be patient, and hope that at least next time I get on the scales, it hasn't gone up yet again. |
