| It's friday so here i go again: starting weight: 157 Goal weight: 115- 120 last week weight: 140.8 today:143.2! how? This week's loss: Ok so now I am up 3 more pounds! This is not good. I'm not sure what happened this week but obviousely I need to be more disciplined. I know Im exercising so it must be what is going into my mouth. No more wine for a while! Calorie goals: not really sure didn't have time to count. Water goals: most days I reached this I think but wasn't really counting. Exercise goals: This I know I reached because Im doing my son's paper route and riding my bike when ever I can like going for errands. Gas is just too much! I am really dissappointed in myself this week. Im going to work really hard at the discipline this week and be on guard to those situations that I tend to stumble in. Edie, I will take your advice and stay away from the ice cream. No strawberry shortcake for me tonight either! Have a great week everyone! |

| Hi Cheryl and everyone
That is a link to a 60 day bible study course called "The Lord's Table". Well there are several and that is one of them. On the page the link takes you to there is a yellow bar at the top with different tabs. Go to "online courses" then on the drop down tab go to "The Lord's Table- Phase I". This is a course that has helped me learn a perspective on eating that I think in our instant gratification culture and comfort culture you would be hard pressed to find else where. The study is totally free on line although you can purchase a book. I am on day 46 of 60. CC has definitely helped me lose weight but I think The Lords Table teaching will really help me to keep it off. Any how if you want to email me privately with other questions I would welcome that. Hope you all are having a great week. brigitte |

| I want to welcome you too pjlittle! You've been on for two weeks and just taking the time to discipline yourselfthis way is going to help get you where you want to go. This site has been a great help for me and so has this group. In two months of consistant exercise and controlling your calories you WILL see a loss. Just keep it up. We just started posting a weekly weigh in for accountability so I hope you feel comfortable doing that because it really is encouraging to have that. I have "toyed" with this site for a couple of years but haven't really been consistant until this past spring so sometimes it takes a few tries to really get committed.
Welcome! Brigitte I would like to give a plug for something else that is really going to see me through in KEEPING the weight off and maybe it will help you: click here: http://www.settingcaptivesfree.com/lords_tabl e/course.php |

Of course you can add me as a buddy Misskady! And I agree with Chery: you deserve kudos for all you do as a mom and doing Tae Bo! It is comforting to know Im not alone and my kids are not the only kids that are natually extremely selfish. As for our plateaus and lack of current weight loss, I would like to propose a weigh-in day and accountability day where we post our weight, how many days we stayed with in our calorie count limit, drank our water, and how many days we exercized and our goal weight. This really helped me loose my fist 17 lbs. and I do this with a couple of friends here but I would be glad to be accountable to you all too! I suggest we do this on a friday. Anyone game? |

| Hello,
So glad to see your results Cheryl! Digigirl Im praying that whatever that stiffness is, your great attitude to keep moving forward and continue toward health will really benefit offset the rhuematoid arthritis. My Husband and I were blessed witha long weekend away in Richmond , VA this past weekend. Coming home to the kids and the stress has been quite depressing. I almost wish I never left because coming back to reality has been awful. The kids bickering with eachother, ignoring me or their chores, back talking. Ugh. Strife, strife strife and Im at a loss with how to show them how wrong it is. It's just selfishness. And in my selfishness I just want them all to get along. So what did I do today? Totally pig out! Im definitely a stress eater! While O was gone I really ate well, didn't blow it overeating and exercised every day at the hotel gym. I just suck as a mom. I wanted to run away so bad! Sorry for the whining- I need to snap out of this mood. Thanks for letgting me vent brig |

| Hey, where is everyone? How has your week gone? Did anyone loose last week? I lost 2lbs. and am now down to 139!! I have 12 lbs to go for my first goal weight; 19 for my second. I'm looking forward to the size drop but it hasn't happened yet. Still a sz 10.
I ate way too much popcorn at the movies last night when I saw Prince Caspian (pretty good movie) so I will need to do hard workout today. Anybody been in their garden? |

Cheryl, Im pretty sure that I read in Dr Lee's book for "What Your Doctor May Never Tell You about Peri-menopause" was that gaining weight in the stomach was a symptom oe perimenopause and menopause and due to imbalence of hormones ie. estogen high. I, like you, have always been "hippy" but since meno, I can't believe how much I gained in my waist! I am going down and experiencing success...lost 17 lbs so far! I have 17 to go. I thought the progesterone cream factored into some of the success. But eating less (according to metabolic burn) and exercising really are the key. I hope you are able to get that turned around. | Thanks Valerie for the info on plateaus. It will be good info to have when I reach 15-20% of my starting weight. I didn't realize how LONG a plateau can last! I'm so glad to hear of your accomplishments as well! Keep up the work you are doing!Do you have any rewards you will allow yourself for reaching your goals?

I'm really hoping to spend my mother's day in the garden with the help of my family! I would like an early start so there's no Breakfast in bed for me. I really hope for no rain. I have some Pachasandra (I'm sure I totallly butchered that) to trans plant and weeds to erradicate. If I get enough accomplished I hope to end the day with a family bike ride to get ice cream and I will engoy mine guilt free! What are you all planning for Sunday? You don't have to be a Mom to answer. I would be spending time with My mom if I lived closer to her. |

Great job Edie! By the way when I weighed in on friday it showed that I stayed the same on vacation too! Still not counting yet very regular but trying. That's the icecream maker I was talking about. It was even in one of the sales adds in our neck of the woods yesterday for $40 or $50. |

Cheryl, One of my friends has an ice gream maker that I found very easy to use but I don't remember the name brand. What I do remember was that it had this really cool(no pun intended) bowl part that you keep in the freezer because it is double walled and has a liquid inside it for keeping cold. I thought that the bowl description might help you narrow down what you may have already seen. Any how It was just very easy to use and I have made awesome maple walnut icecream using no sugar but real maple syrup. And real whole unpasturized milk. Yum! |

Thanks cheryl for the stevia info- I hope to order some soon. About my ankle.... Was doing great until...today. I sprained it again today. It hurt so bad. I thought I broke it. I saw a doc friend and because I could walk (after the initial shock) on it and actually it's not bad to walk on but is still VERY tender. I will give it a break AGAIN and baby it a week or three and hopefully I can get back in the swing of things again soon. Thanks for asking. Maybe I'll post a picture of it. :) Wouldn't that be cute? BTW- I think the worst thing about getting older for me has been the ugly veins all over my legs! It's just grose! |

Hi everyone! It's good to be back from Mossouri. I had a great week and cooked for 12 people who I went to New Tribes Missions with. They all worked on cars for the week so the missionary students can drive around to their home churches this summer in safe good running cars. It was alot of work to cook for that many people every day but I absolutely love to cook (which is why I am overweight :) ) and it was a fun group. While away,I took a break from counting calories but I tried to be careful to eat only when I felt hungry. I also tried to get moving each day by running walking, sit-ups, push-ups etc. I forgot to weigh in this morning but I will check tomorrow. It's back to counting though because I know for me, I get a little more liberal with each meal when I don't count. I've lost 15 pounds so far and don't want to screw it up. I wanted to comment on the progesterone cream... I found that you have to experiment a little with the amount you use. I also have found for me if I use half my dose in the am and half in the pm I feel more "even" emotionally all day. I would experience extreme anxiety if I took too much also . For those of you that are loosing weight slowly if your not using Progesterone cream you might really want to consider it because being estrogen dominant will tend to slow your metabolism as well. I feel like that is one of the keys to my weight loss this time. I really want to second Cheryl's reccomendation to read Dr Lee's book as well. I also have looked into the "Woman to Woman" web site and found very sound information. I'm not ready to accept my current size (10) as being my "new normal" I quit smoking 9 years ago which will dramatically change a person's metabolism and to further my gaining I have replaced smoking with eating. So now I think I just really need to get some perspective on amounts and cravings. Being done with "the change" has also contributed to a lower metabolism that feels like it is changing and improoving with all the exercise I have been able to do. I really became committed to loosing weight when I began experiencing joint pain all the time in my hips. My concern was that my frame wasn't built to haul around an extra 35 pounds all the time and it was time to loose. Since I have lost 15 pounds the pain has really gone down to just an occassional stiffness. Between decreased pain and increased libido I am sticking through until I'm at least a size 8 but even better a 6! I want to encourage you all to keep up the hard work. I look at it like spending money vs. saving. I never regret when I choose to save money but many times I have chosen to spend it (epecially on a want) and not always but I often later regret it later because of a different need arising. It's the same with my weight concerning eating and being diligent to be healthier. I don't think I've ever regreted turning down an extra serving or taking time to exercise. I know that I have regretted lacking self control in my eating or choosing to loaf rather than move. Have a great day everyone! |

I think you hit it right there- STRESS! It wreaks havoc on our bodies, our mestrual cycles, our metabolism, our serotonin levels, the liver, heart, you name it! Oh yeah, food cravings! We need to simplify! So that's what I try to do. Diet? No. eat when hungry(healthy foods I love!). record counts. move or exercise. weigh. observe. pray through cravings. simple. |

cheryl wrote: "Today I weighed myself and was 146.6 - down again from yesterday and I am totally fine. I find that eating fat (which - believe me- I have avoided since I was a teenager) really fills me up so that I don't over eat. I hope my cholestrole and all that doesn't go thru the roof - but according to the doctor, that is all from being insulent resistant (our bodies crave fat b/c it needs it for cellular development - it only needs carbs for fuel)."
Cheryl have you ever heard of the book "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon ? It is a nutrition book but also is a recipe book. It is one of my favorites. I have learned to make the best soups from this book, homemade butter and yogurt and whole grain breads. It has an entire chapter on fats that goes against conventional teaching of the evils of fat and is supported by studies and thoroughly footnoted. here is a link to an article on fats by one of the co-authors of this nutrition cookbook: http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/lowf atdiets.html And Digi- I got out my "What Your doc. may not tell you about meno..." And all I could find was the list of peri meno symptoms because I couldn't find my book of the same name but "peri-meno instead of just meno. The Peri menobook is much more detailed about Peri -meno. Foggy thinking(clumsiness) was on the list of symptoms and so was irregular periods. On another note cheryl, I was reminded of the connection between cholesterol and progesterone production as I thumbed through Dr. Lee's book. Cholesterol is a precurser to progesterone. It's no wonder we women get onto a merry-go- round of problems as we listen to diet dictocrats and cut all or as much as possible natural occuring fats and cholesterol from our diets replacing them with fakes such as hydrogenated fats and wind up with some other ailment. What we really need is to just reduce our portions maybe and get more fruits and veggies. I'll get off my soap box now. Thanks for listening. brigitte |

Hey ya'll Happy Friday. With some ice and some ibuprophin(sp?) the swelling came down and it didn't hurt so I did a step wokout and I will ice it again and go shopping for new sneakers since I read somewhere that worn heals is one of the most repeated things I read contributing to ankle sprains. Wish I new that yesterday when I was near the outlet mall. Weighed in today and lost 1 pound. I'm glad to still be going in the right direction. I feel like if it's only one lb. per week then I know I will reach my goal even if it's not until the end of the August- 2 lbs. a week would be alot better! Would metrics make me feel better? Hey cheryl take a break, and don't feel guilty abouit it. It does get annoying to focus on counting all the time. Try eating only when you actually feel hungry and eat only things you know are healthy or measure out a serving and don't count for 1 week just to give your mind a break. Just be disciplined to stop when you are satisfied and not nibble when you don't feel hungry. Hey, I also wanted to suggest a study that has really helped me put eating in its proper place. It's a free Biblestudy(not asuming you all are Christians just if you are you may find this helpful. If your not it doesn't mean you can't try it; its free.) It's called "The Lord's Table" and you can find it at http://www.settingcaptivesfree.com/lords_tabl e/ I have found it to really be freeing and life changing. That is all I will say about it on this forum but feel free to email me if you have any comments. Have a great weekend! I'm off to the Opera tonight...My friend's son is in it. I hope it's in English |

Hello all, yesterday I went out with the dog to exercise and tripped over my own feet and sprained my ankle! looks like my ankle is pregnant my daughter said! Ugh! I've gotta keep my workout light now and just do abs I guess and floor exercises. What a bummer! Anyone know anything about feet and running/exercise shoes that will angle my feet so I'm not walking/running toward the outside edge?. I turn my feet in and that's how I tripped. brigitte |

Hi Cheryl, digi, bj, tubbybubba, cindy, molly, tiggin, and anyone elso out there- It was a beautiful weekend here. Got to ride my bike on Sat after work and picnic'd sunday as well. Welcome Spring! Molly I got to read your profile and I'm sending some of your comics to my friend in who keeps me accountable here. There are so many times I sit down to post but something interrupts and then I miss the moment. I weighed in last friday at 146 down from 149 the previous week! This will be a tougher month than usual because the 20-27th I will be at a mission training camp with a group from our church going to fix cars for missionaries. I will be the head cook :) Ironic huh? Well, I'm going to fix healthy stuff but I don't think I will have any internet acess unless someone else brings ther computer and lets me use it. So, no calorie counting. Maybe my son will let me bring his :).
I plan to walk/run/hike for exercise that week. I have some workouts that are perfect for tracel-no equipment needed. What are your favorite work outs? What works for you? brig. |

Way to go db! I quit that habit when my daughter was 4 months old. She is 9 now! Way to go and you are so smart to start getting hold of your weight now. I put on most of my weight after quitting and never really lost it after baby #4 her younger bro. I'm proud of you for going a month! Keep it up you are doing great. You really will be so glad you quit. I can remember feeling like a part of me was all wrapped up in that and I didn't want to let go but now I can't even imagine! I tried quitting many times with the patch and everything. Cold turkey was the final method...and alot of prayer! Now I am approximately overweight by about 20-25lbs but 6 weeks ago I had an additional 12 to loose! So I'm headed in the right direction and you are so smart to stay on top of it now. Even if I never loose the extra pounds I am so happy I quit that habit. I would rather be chubby than smell like an ashtry and cough. I'm sorry if there are any smokers reading this who are offended by that but it's the truth. Please don't be offended. Last ditch- I work at home too and part of my job is feeding my 4 kids- breakfast, snack, lunch and then preparing dinner. It seems like I'm handling food all day. So I get on cc at night and plan my 'rations' the night before as best I can. That way it's all thought out ahead. It also makes me feel like this is what I can have vs. what I can't have. I don't know what kinds of things you like but my favorite snacks are a celery stalk w/ a Tabl. of peanutbutter or a cup of low cal yogurt w/ 1/4 c. of granola(love this!) I turned 40 in Dec. and really want to achieve my fitness goals this year and stick with them. I hope to do some 40-100 mi. bike rides this year. My exercise buddy and I did a ride 2 summers ago that was 70 mi. in one day! I need to do that again. Setting those goals helps me to stay faithful in my workouts Got to ride today-55 and sunny! It was nice. What did you all do to burn calories and better yet- FAT ? |

| Weight Loss | Ketosis? | Apr 01 2008 17:58 (UTC) |

I would like to add that my brother in law did Atkins recently and ate a jar of peanuts and ended up with a serious case of irritable bowel syndrome. So seriously painfull he had a lower Gastro intestinal tract "probe"or whatever they do and needed some of his bowel REMOVED because it was so badly damaged by all the added fiber. Might I remind you that all nuts are high in fiber. Further more ketosis is a condition that diabetics must avoid because of the damage it does to the kidneys and they tend to avoid carbs with no natural insulin or ODing on insulin. There is some wisdom that is extremely applicable here: In all things MODERATION! |
