Please let me reply to the "bulky' responses. I am not saying that swimming is, or would, make me bulky. Only that when was younger my arms were so big from working in the bookstore loading, unloading, alphabetizing books, that i became nick named popeye in school. I will never let that happen to me again. It is why I thought swimming was a good idea. However, The weight trainer ...in accompaniment with this site at this link says: http://swimming.about.com/od/swimworkouts/a/s wim_benefit.htm "One thing swimming is not good for is losing a lot of weight. The on-line Merck Manual explains that swimming is not the best way to lose weight due to the cooling effects of being in the water. While you do use a lot of calories swimming, once you get out of the pool much of that calorie burning stops. Doing land based exercise like running or cycling may use about the same amount of calorie per hour as swimming, but once you stop exercising the land-based workout usually leads to continued increase in calorie use for as long as 18 hours after the workout." |

No, the bulky came from my working in the bookstore. Idon't think swimming will make you bulky, but weight training on machines can. That is my concern. I had a trainer tell me I need a happy mixture of both. I thought swimming did both of those. But according to him, you are too cool in a swimming pool for it to have effective results within a 6 month timeframe. I was always under the impression that swimming worked your whole body out and so it was an all around great fitness plan with great blend of cardio and fat burning. Only recently have I heard otherwise. |

| Turtle... F.Y.I. regarding Belly Dancing Classes. It is a whole lot of fun. I don't know if I will lose weight, but I will certainly build muscle. I never knew how much work it is just to move your abdomen. Our instructor did a shimmy the other day using only abdomen muscles, and abdomen muscles that I didn't even know existed. I was awe struck! If anyone is in the DFW Metroplex, find some high ground! |

| Thanks, you guys are the bomb! Other than the crick in my neck from sleeping so much yesterday I feel great. I am just bummed that I had to miss my Belly Dancing class :o( I couldn't go for father's day because the hubby pouted at the idea. So I rescheduled for Monday and got sick. She is going out of town this weekend and because a sickness can last in a person, even though they show no effects, for up to three days; neither of us wanted to risk it. So I am belly dance class-less this week :o( Ah well, at least I have swim aerobics. |

| Hi all! I lost 1 pound. I think it has to do with all the veggies on the grill. Made an awesome asparagus salad last night with slivered almonds, Parmesan cheese and Spinach, drizzled with lemon juice and olive oil...Yummy! 109 calories per serving, not bad. My total for yesterday was 1,642 and that was with 3 oz of brisket my hubby smoked for 7 hours!!! That was tough not to continue nibbling on. Enjoy being grandma Carol! |

| Hey everyone, just updating... Well I still weigh the same, but I have discovered that I adore the grill! I have been doing much better because of the way I have been cooking up veggies on the grill. A dry rub for the chicken, a little olive oil and lemon juice on bell pepper, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. 1/2 potato pre boiled for 15 minutes, then grilled for 45 in garlic powder, a dash of salt and rosemary. My total cal intake for today was 1,729, the best I have done all week and I think it is an over estimation based on my chinese food buffet being smaller portions and no fried foods, rice or noodles. all strictly veggies and meat. I am getting my carbs from that little bit of potato and a bowl of cereal with skim milk for my night splurge. Congrats on the 3 pounds Blue! Carol next time, force them to throw some shish-ka-bobs and chicken on the grill. I gaurantee they will appreciate it. My family, the gods of fatty food, including my 5-year-old, loved it. Then again, my little boy is a bit weird as he wanted to eat an entire steamed artichoke by himself, heart and leaves...lol! ell I have been spending time in my garden, too...check out my page to see my tomatoes and green peppers...oh, and my babies. | Will do turtle. I have between 5-7 friends who will be joining me in the class, so the shyness factor is sort of lost on me. Plus I am friends with the instructor. Mexican food did me in tonight. | |||

| Well, I am finally back on track after a splurge that would beat up a sasquatch! I went up three pounds, then down four and have nestled into a snug 231 for the time being. I finally joined a water aerobics class on Wednesdays and a belly dancing class on Sundays, something I always thought would be fun to do... boy that water aerobics is tougher than I thought it was going to be, but felt good after I got up this morning. I am also starting water aerobics and self-defense for women in August at the college. I am super stoked about it all! | |||

| Hey all! I really need some help. I need someone to check in with me every so often if I am out of commission. I am losing my motivation and starting wishy washy habits. I think a line every so often may help me out. I asked a couple of friends to join this site, which they did, then immediately forgot about it. I know everyone has their struggles, but I really want to do this, and for myself, but I lose interest fast. Maybe a soft reminder will help me out some. By the way, I went out of town to visit grandparents and gained a pound. I am definitely on a low right now. I also didn't count the whole time I was gone. |

| Okay, so the pizza at Cici's Pizza buffet did me in for dinner today. I think the Long John Silver's poisoned me because I have done nothing but sleep and visit the latrine today. Even still, my calorie intake in 2,600 today. I can't believe I allowed myself to splurge again. I feel like I am on a downward slope and I need to figure out how to turn it around! I am very listless and lethargic today and this evening though. I still feel a little nauseated though. Weigh in is the same today. I am going out of town this weekend, camping. It will be good to get away from home. Then, I am going to spend 2 weeks with my grandparents to offer them a little hard labor. 2,600 calorie intake... I am bummed out that I fell off again today. I am undoing all that I have worked so hard for... and all for some doritos...ugh! |

I really overdid it yesterday with about 12 oz of brisket my hubby cooked for 5 hours on the grill for mother's day. Then today I have eaten 2,904 calories. Damn Long John Silver's! However, I discovered I do not like it anymore and couldn't even finish my meal. So, while it sounded good, I have been living much better lately and I can tell by my tastebuds and stomach choices. I was supposed to work out with my friend today, but I didn't make it. To spite all of this, I still dropped 2 pounds since my last weigh in. It is wierd. I am very disappointed today. :o( |

| well I know she couldn't stair step or stationary bike, but sitting on the abdoer going back and forth isn't so strenuous that it will over exert her. I agree about her diet, too. I would never demand ir say, "You need..." the closest I have come to that was the last when I said, I really want you to join us! She needs friends who are willing to help her. |

| I'd really like to hear a good response on this one as well. However, from what I understand, you are noticing the "skin" on your body hanging. This is something that can only be corrected with surgery. So, you can tone muscles, but I don't know that it will tone the skin. This sucks for me, too because I have had 2 children and the same problem. You may try arnica, it is supposed to keep your skin pliable. I have heard cocoa butter, too. | |||

| I don't think we should just leave her alone either. I figure I will ask her on the days we are working out to let her know there is never a time she is not welcome to be a part of out 30 minutes. I really want to just be there for her. | |||

| We have tried that in the past, but it didn't last very long. I have three work out items. A stair stepper, a stationary bike and an ab doer. In my opinion, I get more out of doing 50 situps than I do from the ab-doer, but I think it could do wonders for my friend. Her sister and myself work 15 minutes on the stepper, then 15 on the bike. We do this mondays, wednesdays and fridays... or try to anyway. | |||

| Weight Loss | Words of Henry David Thoreau | Apr 23 2007 14:44 (UTC) |

| My only point is that Henry Davd Thoreau didn't do it because it was defining, but more as a ploy to help mother Earth. He said once a day was plenty of nourishment. Don't get me wrong, I eat three square meals and a snack at the end of the night, all sensible food. I just find it very interesting. |

| I was drinking regular cokes and dr.peppers. When I started my diet I bought a 12 pack of diet dr.pepper and drank it and the weight still came off. I decided I didn't like the taste and have resorted to Iced Tea with sweet-n-low, how I have always drank my tea, coffee and water. I admit I haven't given up my hazelnut creamer, but I did move to fat free. Well, I am glad to know that my loss is not too eratic. I am back to 235.5 and have been doing situps everyday. I have not changed my diet other than what I have told you, in fact have been eating more salads and fruits. I think I am fluctuating which is good, I think. I am just glad I am losing. I feel more energy as of late. By the way, no one order the Wendy's Ceasar Chicken salad. I found a cube of fat that was supposed to be chicken and gagged today...blek! |
