| cherylcs -- it's my understanding that you'd only be doing the pushups for 1 minute -- from minute 7 to minute 8 of the total 40 minutes. Right? | |||

| If you go to www.rollerblade.com, they have a fitness section that'll tell you the calories burned per minute based not only on weight, but also on your speed. 'Cause it's one thing to coast along in a park, and quite another to race. For example, if you weight, say, 150 lbs and skate at 8 mph, you'll burn around 350 calories an hour, give or take. If you're going at 12 mph, you'll burn 700 calories. 15 mph would burn 1000. =) Also, I agree on the wrist guards. The only injuries I've ever had rollerblading that weren't just scrapes were my wrists! Have fun! |

| Weight Loss | should i not exerscise | Mar 20 2007 22:32 (UTC) |

| If this is an isolated day, I'd say don't worry about it. There are usually a couple of days each month when I just don't feel much like eating. Just make sure that those days are balanced out by ones in which you do eat!
And I say exercise if you want to and if you feel up to it -- but make sure you pay attention to how you feel and stop if you feel at all light-headed! |

| my box says 1/2 a cup of fiber one is 60 cals -- it also says that 1/2 a cup of fiber one with 1/2 a cup skim milk is 100 cals. maybe you read the wrong column? =) | |||

| Honestly? You don't "make up" for it; you learn from it. Don't starve tomorrow -- just resolve to eat well. It's not the end of the world that you broke your diet or whatever -- it's just a setback, at most. So go forth, and eat right! | |||
| Weight Loss | calories burned through exercise | Feb 25 2007 22:07 (UTC) |

| I've had the best success when I just eat more if I feel like I need it -- if I'm hungry or whatever. I figure if I go a bit low on calories one day, but then a bit high on another (when I've got the munchies or something), then it'll all balance out. =) So, eat more if you want, but I wouldn't worry *too* much about having an exact deficit every day. Good luck! | |||
| Weight Loss | Calories vs. nutrients on binge days | Feb 24 2007 22:35 (UTC) |
2 |
| Hm, good question... I honestly don't know. While I'm sure that one day of no protein won't kill you or anything, I don't know if nutrients win out over calories. I guess it depends on your priorities. Are you in this for weight loss or for your health? Whichever is more important to you should answer your question. Also, I checked out your pics -- you're looking great! Keep up the good work! |

| For me, if I'm happy where I am and don't need more money, I don't see a reason to change. But then, I'm lazy by nature. =) I say, go with your gut. Do you get excited at the idea of this new job? Or do you kinda dread it? | |||

| most likely due to the exercise -- it happened to me. you should go see your gynocologist, just to be sure, but there's probably nothing to worry about. if you go on birth control, you should get it back. | |||

| Part of your problem my be the types of foods you're chosing. It might help you to add in things like nuts, avacado, peanut butter, and honey -- foods that are calorically dense, so that you get the necessary calories without a whole lot of volume.
And yes, you do likely need at least 1900 calories to maintain, if not more. Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | Springtime and Weight Gain | Feb 21 2007 22:17 (UTC) |

| I actually always gain weight in the spring and lose weight in the fall -- whether or not I try to! I always weigh my least in november, and most in march. It's been like this every year, when I was eating whatever I wanted and also when I was dieting. I'm still working on the whole 'diet' thing, but I'm not concerning myself too much with the scale -- I've decided to concentrate on my fitness and exercise, and if I don't lose any weight, well, there's always the fall! =) | |||
| Weight Loss | 70 g of fiber | Feb 20 2007 18:12 (UTC) |

| Um, in response to the ppl shocked by such a 'high' fiber intake, I've gotten up to at least 120g, probably more, before and been fine. Granted, my typical daily intake is somewhere around 50g. I love fiber! (and yes, I am very regular!) =) | |||

| Dude, you're awesome. I'm so happy for you! It took me *much* longer to realize that thin does NOT equal happy! You must be a genius or something! ;) I hope you have a truly wonderful life -- sounds like you've gotten a great start on one. =) | |||

| Pilates has done wonders for my posture. It's all in the core -- abs and back. Basically, keep your abs taut and pretend there are strings on the bottom points of your shoulderblades, pulling them straight down. =) | |||

| Fitness | Question re: exercise after blood donation | Feb 13 2007 23:46 (UTC) |

| I never notice a difference after giving blood, and you would think I would (5'2", 125lbs). I will exercise just like normal after donating blood. I took a spin class about 2 hours after my last donation. No problem. Of course, I realize that I am an anomoly in this case -- most people should take it easy after donating. I just don't happen to need it. =) | |||
| Weight Loss | whats most important to your weight loss? | Feb 13 2007 21:59 (UTC) |

| EXERCISE! If I didn't exercise, I'd only be allowed 1500 calories to *maintain* my weight -- it sucks being short sometimes! =P I also try to eat healthily, but really, I'm all about the exercise! =) | |||
| Maintaining | Lost weight? Maintaining for awhile now? How? | Feb 13 2007 13:46 (UTC) |
5 |
| Hm, not sure if I count as having lost 'significant weight', but I did lose about 50lbs myself. More importantly, though, I've gotten into shape. I don't know about having kept it off for awhile, but I've been maintaining for about 8 months now. My diet is ... sporatic. =) Most days I do great -- healthy food, etc. But then I also have days here and there where I eat cookies or whatever. I don't stress it too much. As long as my pants still fit, I'm happy. And if they start to not fit, well, I start to watch my diet a little more carefully. Now exercise -- that's my thing! I now *love* working out. I have to make myself take days off from the gym. I run 14 miles and rollerblade 18 miles a week, and I take 2 spin classes and 2 pilates classes a week. I love being in shape. I love that I can run and talk at the same time. It's really great. The motivation for me is making my next fitness goal -- running a 15k or being able to do 10 more push-ups. =) Looking good is another motivator. Hopefully I'll be active for the rest of my life! Good luck to you on your maintenance journey! |

| Maintaining | Roll Call! Who's here & maintaining? | Feb 12 2007 21:00 (UTC) |
21 |
| Hey, I'm here! I've been 'maintaining' for about 5 or 6 months. I had a bad spot a few months ago where I became way too obsessed with all of this weight loss/maintenance stuff. I was teetering on the edge of an eating disorder. But, I ended up gaining a little weight over the holidays, and it ended up being just what I needed to see that I wasn't going to suddenly blow up to my pre-weight-loss size, that I didn't have to obsess so much.
I'm doing well now, and I only log my calories occasionally. I still read the forums for entertainment and to maybe pick up some tips or give some help. I love c-c! =) |

| Foods | Are low fat poptarts ok to eat as a snack? | Feb 12 2007 06:15 (UTC) |

| I don't see why not! I think that if you want it, go for it. All things in moderation! Don't *just* eat poptarts -- but having one as a snack? no prob. =) | |||
| Weight Loss | dinner for valentine's day | Feb 12 2007 03:41 (UTC) |

| I'm making dessert for my boyfriend -- he's making dinner for me! =) Don't know what he's making, but I'm making a pumpkin angel food cake -- we both love pumpkin-flavored things, and we both also love angel food cake, and I found a recipe at bettycrocker.com -- here's the link for the recipe I've entered into c-c: http://www.calorie-count.com/recipe/24202.htm l
I plan to 'ice' it with fat free cool whip. =) |

| Weight Loss | "shocking" your metabolism... has anyone else heard of this or am i making it up, haha?! | Feb 11 2007 21:10 (UTC) |
|
| I've heard of it -- in fact, on this board they usually call it 'zig-zagging' your calories -- if you do a search, you should be able to turn up some threads on this topic. =) I do this method unintentionally, really -- some days I'm incredibly hungry, some days I'm not so much. =)
edit: you beat me, mocha! ;) |

| Weight Loss | coffee, a good choice | Feb 11 2007 06:06 (UTC) |

| I drink a lot of coffee -- I've been enjoying it. I find it helps me when I am not hungry but I want something sweet. I realize it's not the healthiest thing in the world, but it's better than cake, imo. =) | |||
| Foods | fiber | Feb 09 2007 21:43 (UTC) |

| I eat a ton of fiber, and I feel great! In my opinion, the more the better! Start slow, though -- add a little at a time or you'll end up constipated! (psst -- I get like 120g some days! and at least 50g on normal days!) | |||
| Foods | How to lose weight while eating chocolate everyday! | Feb 09 2007 21:25 (UTC) |

| In response to the Jell-o pudding comment in the original post -- while the mint chocolate ones are good, the BEST ones are the mocchiato flavored ones. (And I'm totally sure I spelled that incorrectly.) I can only find them at the super wal-mart. They are *divine*. =) | |||
| Foods | My new favorite breakfast and treat!! | Feb 09 2007 19:32 (UTC) |

| Foods | Desserts in restaurants... | Feb 08 2007 07:43 (UTC) |
|
| No way will that make you gain weight, not unless you're like 4 feet tall! I'm 5'2" and hover around 120ish (not too big on weighing myself), and I eat anywhere from 1200 to 2400 calories, depending on the day. I've been maintaining well (with a brief setback due to an excess of christmas cookies!) for about 5 months now. When I was losing weight, I usually ate about 1500 calories a day and exercised for an hour, giving me my 500 calorie deficit needed to lose 1 lb a week.
In short, eat dessert! What's the point in living if you don't *live* at least twice a month? =) |

| Weight Loss | low cal, high fat | Feb 08 2007 07:32 (UTC) |

| My nutritionist told me I should be eating 50-60 grams of fat a day. That's on a 1600 calorie diet, so not too far off from you. I think you're probably fine. Maybe throw in an apple? Some broccoli? =) | |||
