Motivation Do you have a new year's goal? Dec 28 2008

I think my goals are going to echo a lot of the others that have already been posted:

1-Make a life style change...I have been dieting off-and-on since high school...since I'm about to finish grad. school I figure it's about time I stop!!!

2-Make better financial decisions.... I've had a really hard time with money this semester--like, when I pay bills I;ll have like less than 100 in my account.  I also need to save up for a new computer and would love to just travel around (but I don't have the money).

SO those are the two big goals for now.

Young Calorie Counters Does anyone want tto start a group for college kids who have been overweight most of their lives? Dec 28 2008

Hi everyone!

Just surfing the site and found this thread.  Seems like a really great group of people.  My current stats are: 22 years old, 5'-3-5'4, about 205 lbs (highest ever, ugh).  Anyway, I'm about to enter my last semester of grad. school and want to trim down a little for my graduation (just a life milestone that I would love to have pictures from that I can stand looking at).

Talk to you soon!

Amanda

Hey girls, I saw this thread and I was hoping I could join in on the fun.  I'm an "old time" CCer who is hoping to get back on track.  Im 22, 5'3-5'4 and currently 205 (the highest I've ever been I think).  Although I don't want to lose 100 lbs, I know I do have a really long road ahead :-).  My current goal is to be down to 175 by my college graduation on May 16th.  This was initially 165, but I figure it's best to leave a cushion in there so I have a more realistic chance of reaching my goal.  Starting from the beginning of the year, I have just about 20 weeks until I graduate.

Ultimately, I hope to get down to somewhere between 140-150.  When I was in high school I lost a lot of weight and I believe my lowest was around 149.

That's my story--I look forward to chatting with you all!

Amanda

I know I'm over a month behind here, but I figured I'd throw my two cents in.

I kind of woke up one morning and realized I had lost my first ten lbs. So, I set a price limit for myself ($10-$15 as I am a poor college student) and headed to Target (my favorite place).  I ended up getting a new CD that I had wanted for some time and it felt so great just blasting it in the car.  So, I would say even if you don't have a lot of $$ just find something small that you'll use a lot to remind you that you're doing a kick butt job!

what a great post--i also have the same problem of snacking when i study.  i know this sounds odd, but i find if i go sit somewhere to study (like starbucks, etc) i actually eat less because it's not as easily accessible.  i'll get my drink and will be set for a while!  the only problem is if i get hungry, there's not much to eat there but junk!  then, i second the carrots or popcorn thing!

I think coffee's fine (let's face it, wouldn't function without it!) However, if you're noticing a change in yourself when you increase your intake, drink less!  It's about what's best for you.

Weight Loss ugh. staying up all night and eating like crazy. Feb 22 2007

not to be repetitive, but the ideas above sound like things have been working for me...

i used to be of the "need to eat to stay awake" variety (i'm not tons better yet either)...

i tend to drink 0 calorie drinks when i feel like i need something.  if that doesn't work and you need to eat, see if you can't maybe what you're eating at least be healthy (ish).    to be honest, i was up late last night and made a sandwich at like....1:30am... (i know this isn't great and is prolly frowned upon...but since i had calories left in the day, i still didn't feel that it was COMPLETELY taking me off track).

g'luck with your work--you're not alone in not sleeping ;)
Foods Cheeeeeesecake... Feb 20 2007

i say if you've really been thinking about it that much, you should go for it.  if you have to go out and get it, it will more likely be a one time thing, too (so make your friend take the leftovers!!). you don't want to completely deprive yourself of everything...

if you decide not to go for it, it looks like there's some at-home alternatives you can make yourself...maybe give one of those a try and if your craving doesn't go away, go for the real stuff

goodluck

I've been on this Kraft singles kick recently.  Prolly not the greatest thing (and I don't know how you would feel about it if you only like quality stuff) but it melts really well so I make omlettes and grilled cheese, etc.  If you get the red-fat (or whatever it is) kind it's only 30 cals a slice

i think the idea of finding something that smells just as good (if not better) is great.  to curb my chocolate fixes, i drink diet hot chocolate--i found this packaged stuff thats like 25 cals a pack so even if i need a second cup, im not going crazy.

sounds like you're in a tough place (literally) to be conscious about what you're eating but it sounds like you're def. on the right track!!! (ps, i love the idea about parking your car far away with your cahnge---then even if you need to fill a craving you're gettin some exercise in on the way there and back)

im a college student, too---as for lunch these days, i've been doing a sandwich (which was already suggested 100 times), yougurt, and some sort of fruit/veggie.  also maybe bring dinner leftovers?  i know today my lunch is pasta cause i made too much last night.

welcome :)

sounds like you're on the right track now with all this new advice.  about the soda-i'd say it's fine too--the caffiene is what dehydrates you so if you're concerned about that either caff. free or a soda that doesn't have any to start with (diet sprite or something)
