| Maintaining | Help!!! Why am I so hungry??!! | Nov 14 2007 14:54 (UTC) |

| Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and advice. I saw a doctor. Everything is fine. So I saw a nutritionist. She upped my calories a little, added more protein--just basicly tweeked what I was already doing-- and recommended some vitamin supplements. Also, I found a protein powder drink on the internet that is sweetened with stevia, since I can't have any sugar or artificial sweeteners, and that has helped a lot, too. I feel much better and I am not hungry all the time. Thanks, again!!! | |||
| Maintaining | How long til you don't feel fat? | Sep 30 2007 04:10 (UTC) |

| I agree with tsh, too. The biggest problem I had initially was that I had this really nice wardrobe of fat clothes that I felt comfortable in and liked. I found I couldn't start getting rid of those clothes until I had purchased something I liked as well in a size that fit. Then, it was easier to get rid of those bigger clothes.
I still not only don't feel thin, I don't see myself as thin when I look in the mirror, although I am 5'7", 120 pounds, and a size 4 (down from a size 16). I have been this size a little less than a year, so I think it just takes time. I have found that looking at before and after pictures of myself has helped. Also, I have some friends that I think look perfect and I asked them to stand next to me in the mirror so I could see that I don't look any bigger than they do. Also, I have my weight, fat percentage, and body measurements tracked by a trainer so that I have objective information to look at instead of my own screwed up, insecure, food-addicted brain. Congratulations and good luck!! |

| Weight Loss | Your worst binging moment | Aug 26 2007 15:55 (UTC) |

| I used to have terrible uncontrolled binging problems (entire big bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos dipped in melted Velveeta & salsa, followed by whole container of Ben & Jerry's Heath Bar Crunch, for example). I finally was so miserable and hated myself so much I went to Overeaters Anonymous, which is a 12-step program based on food. By doing what was suggested, I was able to stop binging, stay on a food plan (which, for me involved the heavy use of this website, among other things), lose 50 pounds in less than a year (from175 to 122), and, most importantly, learn to stop hating myself and stop my self-destructive behaviors. The program works for some and not for other, but it sure saved me and still does to this day. The national website is www.oa.org . | |||
| Fitness | Hot Yoga! | Aug 26 2007 15:45 (UTC) |

| I had never been a big fan of regular yoga because it never felt like a workout for me and my adult-onset-ADHD would kick in and I would want to crawl out of my skin after 5 minutes. But, I have been doing hot yoga for about a month and I love it!! It has solved a bunch of fitness problems for me because it provides the one component I was missing in my workouts-stretching-while still giving me a good workout and burning calories. It is also tightening up my "problem" areas (like my 43-year-old butt and upper arms) that had gotten a "little loose" after I lost 50 lbs. Anyway, I am addicted to it. It burns 400-500 calories, works every muscle, and I feel awesome afterwards. Mastisalisa is right, though, I get sick to my stomach if I eat too soon before the class, but if you look on websites about hot yoga, they say that is normal at first. The room is 105, and it is totally okay to stop doing the poses or sit down if you feel sick or light-headed. I absolutely love it and I would encourage anyone to at least try it a couple of times before they decide. I am envious it is near your house. I have to drive a ways to get to it. Good luck. If you do try it, I hope you love it as much as I do. | |||
| Maintaining | please give your tips on maintaining? | Jul 11 2007 16:28 (UTC) |

| For me, the thing that makes me feel full longer is protein. I am really sugar-sensitive and if I were to eat just fruit and nothing else, I would go into a sugar-starve about 45 minutes after I ate it. When I snack on fruit, I make sure I have some protein with it--like a cheese stick, or a hard-boiled egg, or some beef jerky. Then, I feel full longer, and the sugar from the fruit doesn't make me hungry or start a craving for more sugar.
As I have read in many of the other topics, keeping a food journal is the most important thing for me. The second most important is to know what I am going to eat each day and where it is coming from. Then, I can stop negotiating with myself and trading calorie sources in my mind, and, basicly, stop obsessing about my food all day long. I eat what I plan to eat. I don't eat anything else. That way, my own tendency of bad habits doesn't get a chance to screw it up! |

| Thank you for this reminder!! I have been maintaining a 50 lb weight loss for about 5 months and lately it has been making me crazy. If I fluctuate 100 calories one way or the other I gain or lose 2-3 pounds in a day. It is getting exhausting trying to figure out how to actually maintain a consistent weight, adjust for exercise, and not freak out at these gains and losses. One day at a time, I guess. This new lifestyle has worked for the last year, no reason it won't continue to work, right? Thanks again. | |||
