| had a three week plateau, and ended up bingeing for around 4 days, still keeping up exercise etc. outcome was that i did not gain or lose, am now on day three of returning to a more sensible diet and hope that i will start to lose

| have gone downhill and imagine i have put on loads of weight but too scared to check. been a fortnight of backsliding and have to stop NOW...the plateau really hit me. so i'll take stock today and look at a diet to get me back on track. i will re assess all the figures that the tools display and see if a cant get the right balance of carbs prots and fat.
intend to eat more fish, lean chicken, eggs a couple of times a week and NO NO bread. its the ruin of me, i have been doing 8 slices a day almost. am not a great one for veg but stir fry veggies when nice and crispy are ok so will try to have them most days. plus fruit. will also enter the exact cals also will be a bit more realistic with the exercise. i'll count pedometer readings as part of daily allowance burned and if a do an hour cycling i'll enter that as extras. does that sound okay, anyone? am desparate to get back geoffers |

| a friend on the group spoke about their heart monitor that showed calorie readings and it struck a chord because i use a pedometer and over a day i cover approx 13000 steps or 6 miles. trouble is that my calories burnt daily allowance shows as around 3500, so i never know what to add in the way of extra energy burned. yesterday for example could have been as low as 3500 burned in total or as high as 5000. does a heart monitor record cals burnt throughout the day? and does one do away with the daily allowance...cant afford a monitor yet but sounds a better idea. because at present i could literaly eat 4000 cals and still be 1000 short of what i burn, according to pedometer estimation plus the the allowance | |||

| thanks all...will take a good long look at my eating pattern and water intake (which i know is awful) it really is a drag and i know how i am when things have got frustrating in the past. mind you as some of you know, my alcoholism (recovering) does mean that at times off stress i tend to blow out on food as opposed to booze. easier to put a days eating right than to hit the booze...things that i am eating in big quantities in that i dont weight are "porriidge!" late at night, pounds of fruit, sometimes 6 bananas and 6 apples plus 2 or 3 health bars!! gawd it sounds bad already..... | |||

| as a recovering alcoholic who spent 30 yrs drinking as a chronic alkey and sunk to consuming after-shave by the time i was 28 i can fairly safely say that i have a bit of hands on experience and am also a trained relapse prevention worker and qualified counsellor. after 5 years total sobriety i relapsed and nearly died 10 months and a week ago. in my work and amongst my peers i was always asked about wether alcoholism was a disease, an illness, hereditary or what. ive read a lot and a good deal of interesting stuff appears. for me though the reason for the alcoholism is less important than the fact that "ive got it". if i live another 25 years dry i'll still die an alcoholic albeit sober, because that is what i am, and the reason i dont drink now, one day at a time is because it is for me, a mental and physical problem. i know ive gone away from the sugar question but just felt like i wanted to share that...god bless u all. uk geoff | |||

| am gonna post my progress on my daily journal so do feel free to pass on any observations on my day. had an inauspicious start by finishing off the pat of fruit and fibre 400 g worth so off to a 700 cal breakfast but will be out soon for a good healthy walk with loadsa water.....humid uk | |||

| day almost over and need to look at re focussing tomorrow. ended up on 6000 cal junk out. and burned about 4000
cant let it get me down so will look again at the tools section, refresh everything and stick to whats required. dso hate giving myself a hard time, but be oc i kinda have to! |

| phew you guys get me sweating just talking about it. seriously though, weighing in at 280lbs the exercise i do is 10-15 thou steps a day and a couple of miles cycling. i play cricket on a sunday and of course have to run a bit then, i did try to run around a local pond that i estimate is 3 circuits to a mile. i did not do a complete circuit. if any of you guys has not started running yet (or jogging) and want to start a regular programme of a few hundred yards at a time then sign up as a friend and i'll start monday with a 200 yard run then build up with you toward that first mile! i'll keep my journal updated daily with my progress

| going off at a tangent slightly i was wondering....i wear a pedometer to keep track of steps etc in a day as i walk a lot. how should i work it out with regard the "allowance" for naturally burned cals as mine is around 3500. should i just note how long i walked and then enter it in log. am not sure how to work out what is "extra" calc burned or whats part of estimated daily allowance of cals burned....if that makes sense | |||

| its only 1pm here in scorching sussex uk and am on 2500 cals for the day so gonna have to really pull my socks up. mind you i have walked around 11000 steps today and 4.75 miles in all so thats good | |||

| thanks for that. i know its just a temporary thing but i made a real mistake at the start by putting extra pressure on myself when i decided to raise monies for a local charity, sponsoring me by the pound lost. puts too much expectation on me....still, i shall hang in there

| i took note and hit a few extra cals in last few hours. 2 yogurts mixed with lashings of meusle satisfied the sweet tooth and took me to 3000. burnt total was around 5000+ soi still on right side. have just checked my average daily results for june and i burnt 800 cal more than i took in and this month its around 700. so today is an exception i think. | |||

| whats a Klondike bar...dont have them here in UK but i can almost taste it!!! i recall posting a week or so back my awful weekend of KFC and BBQ's...seemed like the end of it all, and could have been had i let it. but you guys reassured me when i needed it most and since then its been all on course again. so hang in there | |||

| in general i always do a "one off distance" of about 2miles solid, a couple of one miles and rest in bits. i keep a log. in june my daily average was 6.43 miles a day. thats around 14800 steps, and daily calories burnt just by walking was around 1350-1400. furthest walk was about 5 miles but most in a day was 13 | |||

| it is a fair bit i agree, around 3.5lbs a week but i reckon it okay as am eating in excess of 2200 cals a day and on average walk around 5 miles a day at differing levels. when hungry which honestly aint too often, i pig out on fruit/oats etc. as i started at 294 lb. wouls appreciate any feedback at all, cos dont want to do it wrong. doctor appears pleased. god bless u all. and to my fellow aa,ers "keep it simple" | |||

| thanks to you all. yes am AA. am secretary of local meeting. done 6 years sober before major relapse of two years left me "surrounded by bin bags" and near to the great "pub in the sky". but friends and my resolve got me on track again. have had good 36hrs and plenty of water. bythe way, when you get added, or you add, to friends how do you mail them, is it just a case of clicking on the name and a e mail address appears. have to use library pc so tons of restrictions. god bless you all. geoff | |||

| think i am getting back on track. just over half way thru the day and am sticking to fluids, fruit, veg and exercise. 500 cals in and done 5 mile walk. smoked makeral and salad for dinner and then hopefully a healthy evening. same again tomorrow should get mme sorted | |||

| oh hell, the following day was just as bad and the result is i have put on 3 pound since friday..dammit. did not have access to a pc so have to try and remember what i had yesterday and enter it in. think i'll just enter 5000 cal eaten and 1000 exercise. feels that bad. today is a new day but i have 48 hrs to weigh n day so will up the walking trips to 6 mile a day and stick with water and fruit/veg. ta for support. a bit down but will battle on | |||
