The Lounge Do you think this is really true? Aug 25 2009

What I have heard is that it causes sleep problems (for some) not because of the activity so much as that the mind doesn't equate the bedroom with sleeping.  Because of that, "they" say the bedroom should be for sex and sleep...nothing else.  I do know that I watch t.v. in bed and I don't sleep well..but I blame that on the snorer that sleeps with me.  Wink

I've been around for a few years now.  Part of it is that I don't have the time to keep coming back to repost.  I am only here this morning because I took the week off from work.

I am quiet and rarely say anything here..irl, I always have something to say.  I am opinionated, sarcastic, and will debate pretty much anything.  I'm not sure why I am not like that online.

I had a dream that I was smoking.  I quit almost six months ago but lately when I feel really stressed, I dream I am smoking.

Lamp, many framed pictures, vase with "button" flowers, radio/CD player, small CD tower, two water bottles, 1 travel coffee cup, four plants, a lap blanket, various nick knacks, lunch bag, Chinese exercise balls, lots of magnets on my file cabinets, a large cork-board with various personal items like pictures & cards, etc.  Oh, and tons of work stuff!  My office is very "comfortable" and "homey".  I spend a good portion of my day here so I want to look at things that I like.  This is also very acceptable where I work.

If you have fluorescent lighting on in your office, most plants will do well.  They seem to like that.  Oh, and congratulations on the new position.

The Lounge Hate going to the laundromat? Mar 31 2009

I love laundromats.  Granted, I don't have to go to them because I have a washer and dryer, but I do love laundromats.  I like that I can take ten loads of laundry and wash and dry them all at one time instead of spending an entire day doing laundry.  I like to people watch while I am waiting.  Once or twice a year I end up going to a laundromat for things that don't fit well in my w/d...like sleeping bags.  I look forward to it.

We have a laundromat in our city that is attached to a bar/restaurant.  Cool

I think Scott should go home.  I have never thought he was really good enough to make it as far as he did.  Neither is Michael.  Adam is by far my favorite.

I didn't like most of them last night.  Three or four did well, but the rest...not so much.

The Lounge I need to keep the Kcal in my HOUSE -- insulation advice? Jan 15 2009

I don't have forced air heat, so I'm not sure why you would have uneven heat distribution with it.

I will say be careful with the space heater usage if you pay your own electric bill.  I used one for a month, at night, one winter and my electric bill went through the roof.

Old building are drafty and expensive to heat.  On the up side, they have character (at least that is what I tell myself when I am writing out the check for heat).

What kind of heat do you have?  If you have radiators, you may need to bleed the air out of them.

The Lounge For those of you with a 2 Story House...any regrets? Jan 15 2009

I also have a two story house.  All the bedrooms are upstairs.  My only concern, like someone else mentioned, is as I age and perhaps have mobility issues the stairs may become an issue.

The only thing I would suggest is to make sure there is a bathroom on each floor.  My house is over 100 years old...back then they didn't seem to see a need for more than one bathroom, which is upstairs.  Because of this, my mil cannot visit us because she can't get up the stairs to the bathroom.

Financial aid is for cost of attendance, which includes living expenses.  Each school has a set amount for cost of attendance.  That is the maximum you can take out in financial aid, including student loans.  The school you want to attend should have a website with a financial aid page that should list what their cost of attendance is.

I hate having houseguests.  I try to discourage people from visiting me.  Last year I had four extra people in the house for a week...it was the longest week of the year.  I don't really mind the cooking and cleaning, I just have a hard time being pleasant for that long.  Frown

I am going to attempt to donate blood regularly.  I made my first appointment for Friday morning.  I say "attempt" because it depends on whether or not they feel like dealing with my not so cooperative veins on a regular basis.

Other than that, I am going to continue to work on the whole not smoking thing.  It has been 10 weeks and still going strong so hopefully I will be able to continue on that path to better health.

I have dish.  When my contract runs out in May, I will probably be switching back to cable.  Rain in particular causes problems with the signal.  I haven't noticed a problem during snow storms.  It is very hit or miss with rain.  Sometimes it is fine during a thunderstorm but another time it will go out if it is sprinkling.

When my kids were young, we had two trees.  The regular tree with all the presents and a small table top "scrooge" tree.  The scrooge tree had little wrapped cheap "gifts".  Usually $1 things like a box of chocolate covered cherries, box of thin mints, etc.  I would try to have at least 12 things per child under this tree.  Each night before Christmas (for however many nights there were gifts) the kids would get to open a scrooge gift.  This helped eliminate the "Can we just open one present early" problem.  Sometimes I think they enjoyed the scrooge gifts more than the regular ones.

Now my kids are grown and it is just hubby and I at home.  I no longer have the scrooge tree.  I really miss it.
