| I always keep a mental tally in my head. I barely ever record it anymore because I'm just too busy and I remember all the values from the site pretty well. If I eat something new, I either log it to see how much it's worth, or I guess based on similar foods I've eaten in the past. I try not to eat standing up or eat without putting whatever is left of what I'm eating away. But it's hard. I'm getting better. |

| Motivation | What Are Your Next BIG and little Goals? | Jul 18 2006 14:55 (UTC) |

| Little goal: To stop eating after 10:00. I can't need it. I have to stop. Big goal: To keep working out 6 days a week (walking for 1) even in the Uni semester. That's a tough one! Because I'm on this nasty plateau I don't have weight goals, just fitness and health goals. In fact, that's my overall view of this whole thing anyway - health and fitness, not weight. Although I'd like to lose it, of course! |

| You're not a failure! I'm on a plateau too, but as they all try to reassure us, measure your body and you should see a difference there! You might be putting on muscle!

| I have an A-line fifties skirt that looks terrible if my abs are flabby. That's a big motivation for me. I love that skirt and it looks so bad on me if I neglect the gym!

| If you decide to stay on your diet, then you will. Catch yourself thinking negative or dangerous thoughts, like "I did so much exercise, I can have pizza today!" - that pulls you away from your real goal. And if you do mess up, as we all do, then remember that tomorrow is another day and you just take it in your stride and keep moving! Good luck! |

| Weight Loss | 500 calories | Jul 16 2006 13:21 (UTC) |

| okay, cosmo. 1 and 2 do not interest me, you can call yourself whatever you like. In terms of 3, I do not want you to gain weight. I want you to eat 1200 calories. If you eat 1200 calories right now, yes, you will gain weight, and that is because you have abused your body. However, you will lose it again and keep it off if you continue to eat 1200 and do exercise. If you even need to lose it at all, which I can't judge because I'm not a doctor. I understand that at the moment you would be full too quickly, but try just having a handful of almonds, that will get you up an extra 200 and it's not too filling. Your body will adjust later and you won't be full anymore. But you yourself have admitted that you're not full on 500, and you eat 1000. Good. Just 200 more, that handful of almonds, and we're doing well. I know how hard this is. I tried this when I was 13, and I lost quite a bit of weight, true. But the fact is that you will either gain it back, as I did, or die, as many others have done. This is not sustainable. |

| Fitness | Pilates...To do or not to do | Jul 16 2006 07:23 (UTC) |

| Pilates is not a cardio work out, which is what you need to burn fat. But I'm a huge pilates fan myself - it's the best-designed muscular work-out I know of. Just a note to people: if you're not feeling the strain, you're not doing it properly. It's hardcore. Try doing the plank for 2 minutes and tell me that's not work!

| Weight Loss | Goals for July! Let's help each other out! | Jul 16 2006 07:12 (UTC) |

|
I'm late, but here are my goals for the rest of July: 1. Do not emotionally eat. Stop when I feel full. This is hard for me. To do it, I will be waiting 30 minutes between when I first have the thought "Oh, I want to eat X" and when I actually do it. 2. Do at least 1 hour of exercise each day. Do ab work at least twice a week. 3. Buy nothing from a vending machine. Your days are numbered, vending machine. You won last semester, but I will have my revenge! This is enough for me, darn it! |

| Weight Loss | 1200 a day?? | Jul 16 2006 07:03 (UTC) |
12 |
| The program is just a mathematical equation. It is taking how many calories you burn each day, multiplying it by how many days away from your goal date you are, subtracting the total calorific value of the fat you want to lose, and then deviding again by the number of days until the goal date. It is not programmed to know that it is harmful to your body to eat less than 1200 cals. But it's true. Don't eat any less. |

| Cosmo, I know it is tempting to do it this way. But the fact is that there are only two results from this type of diet: you gain it back, or you die. Your only option for keeping weight off is to eat healthy amounts of the proper foods. Choose wisely. We all want to see you succeed. |

| I'm a student at the University of Melbourne, Australia. I major in History, Economics, and French. I hope to be a professor of History in the distant future! Right now, though I'm an adjudicator for high school debating and public speaking. I also am a retail assistant at a shoe store, but I'd rather work in a bookshop, to tell the truth. |

| Motivation | I don't feel like working out. | Jul 16 2006 02:35 (UTC) |
|
| When I don't feel like working out and I feel like I can't stand it at all, I go for a walk. If you walk to the grocery store and walk home with your groceries (obviously you can't shop for a family in that trip!) then that'll build some arm strength! Any old time, walking briskly for an hour freshens you right up! It doesn't really feel like work but it's good enough to tie your body over, and it's better than if you did nothing at all! |

| Well done everyone! I like the muscle definition in my legs the most. You can flex your calves if you have enough muscle there and create all these lines and shapes. Hee hee. If only I could have abs! Well that's what I go to pilates for I guess. Onwards! |

| Moon_song, are you alright with that? My heart goes out to everyone who says they're being constantly told they're fat. You're all such wonderful people. I can't imagine what kind of neanderthals would think that they're being clever by insulting someone's weight. For me, I haven't been called fat by anyone except myself and my scale. My brothers teased me a bit when I was younger but I used to tease them about other things (like not being as smart as I, heh.) I call myself fat mostly when I have a bad day. I'm trying to focus on the positives though. |

| I also don't know so much about binging, but I do know about craving creamy and sweet foods. If you gotta eat something, try a low fat cream cheese with celery sticks next time. I guess if you binged the only thing to do is to drink water and exercise a lot once you are able to do so. There are exercises you can do sitting down/lying down - esp. arm movements, leg raises etc. That's better than nothing! Good luck! *hugs* |

| Motivation | Maybe I'm a bit obsessive | Jul 09 2006 12:23 (UTC) |

| Ahahaha! I can't believe how crazy we are! I do the same thing though. I yell at my scale, to the point of carrying out a conversation with it while the little digital numbers are clicking over: "Yes! Yes! Stop now! Stop! Nooo.....D*MNIT! What is that?! What are you saying?!" Sometimes I flick the switch over to pounds (I'm usually in kg) to see if it'll give me a better reading - it never does! |

| I love chocolate, but I have managed to stay away from it for 3 weeks now. However, liquorice is something I have almost every day. Maybe only 8 grams of it, about 20 cals - I have to take antibiotics that taste terrible, and it's the only way to get the taste out of my mouth! So yes, I can't give up liquorice! I'm a huge sucker for chinese noodles too, actually. |

I never wanted to tell anyone. I told my parents because they do the grocery shopping - but we're very close so that's fine. I didn't want to tell my friends, but one night a friend of mine came over to watch videos and she brought along two family sized blocks of chocolate. I had to explain that I didn't want to eat any, and she realised immediately that something was up - she said she couldn't understand "this whole dieting thing", and she made some muttered comments. Then, of course, she tried to offer her advice on the subject and how to exercise, when I don't think she's exercised in the last three years. Argh. I had a debating tournament this past weekend, and constantly had to withstand a f**king interrogation as to why I didn't want to drink Coke or shovel chips down my throat. I do not wish to poison myself anymore! Why is that everybody else's business?! I'm sorry for swearing, but I wish people would just leave me alone! I'm considering telling them that I'm allergic to refined sugar! |
