The Lounge Anyone Else Addicted to Ebay? Oct 24 2008

I wouldn't say I'm addicted to eBay as such. More like I'm addicted to buying/collecting rare video games and gaming merchandise. I do love eBay though, even though you do get the odd arse pulling a fast one.

Hmm... that still seems like a rather awkward way to do it. What if I eat something different on the weekend compared to during the week and I want to copy that the following weekend. It just means going through tagging everything again. It's not too helpful, but thanks for the suggestion.

You can't binge drink that often and be serious about losing weight and certainly not about being healthy. Just ask yourself whether you really want to be a fat drunk next time you go out.

Just because we're trying to lose weight doesn't mean we cannot enjoy ourselves. I go out and get bladdered (more than likely eat some junk food afterwards) almost every Saturday, but I'm still losing the pounds. One bad day a week isn't going to absolutely ruin the other six days of good healthy eating and exercise.

It's also called 'orthorexia'... and if you really want to, you can overcome it the same way you tackle any other severe phobia. But you have to have the motivation (and the willpower, perserverence, endurance etc.) to want to do it, and an awful lot of patience and tolerance of personal discomfort. You have my sympathy - it's not one of my problems, but I know all about anxiety/phobias from personal experience... I was terrified of anaphylaxis and choking on my food, and I refused to eat any form of nut-containing food for over a decade because of a fear of a non-existant nut allergy, and I only recently overcame it. I'm still afraid to eat tropical fruits for the same reason, even though I know it's a stupid and irrational fear... one day I'll bring myself to eat some and then that'll be dealt with too, but for now I'm enjoying my nutty freedom!

If you can bring yourself to widen your diet even a little, it feels fantastic... of course it's scary, but there's a big difference between a rational fear and an irrational one, and a lot of food phobias/refusal are totally irrational.

People with sensory disorders also have a lot of food intolerances and that's a different issue altogether...

I tried tackling the issue on my own some months ago but it seemed to have an opposite effect. I managed to try a fair few 'new' foods. Some foods where the taste didn't bother me but it was the smell or texture that I struggled with, I kept trying every few days to hopefully get used to them.

I never did quite get used to them and for some reason a few of my 'safe foods' were effected by the experience too. A certain type of ham I'd eaten since I was a child, I can't even bear to look at now! It seemed like one step forwards and two steps back. I gave up :( I can eat (and enjoy) strawberries now though, so it wasn't a complete waste of time!

I've heard from a few people that hypnotherapy can work wonders on these types of phobias. That might be something I'll look into one day (when money allows it!).

Yes, I've seen Freaky Eaters! It's great that some awareness is being broadcast on TV. Maybe enough publicity will soon make it a recognised condition amongst GP's and thus some course of treatment/psychology for it. I've not seen all the episodes, but it's wonderful how some people make fantastic changes on that show. One of the people involved in making that series posted a topic on the Fussy Eaters forum asking for potential candidates for the next series. I believe one of our fellow forum members was accepted!

Add that extra sugar to his diet and you could be the one to put him back on the course to an early grave.

Don't feel jealous, be proud of his efforts. If he hadn't lost that weight he might not be around long enough to see your kids grow up and get married.

I was exactly the same when I went to my first spinning class a couple of months back! I could barely stand up on the bike for 5 mins let alone half an hour!

But now I know how to adjust the bike correctly. I have the bike seat sitting just above my hips (if I was to stand next to the bike) -  and I make sure the handle bars are far enough away so that I can lock my arms but without having to stretch much.

Also, if you were finding it real difficult to pedal whilst standing (like I used to) my trick is to put a bit of a bounce into my cycling. When I first started I found I was cycling quite rigid which would absolutely knacker me out within seconds of cycling standing up.

Spinning is good fun. And the pain of that tiny little seat soon goes after a few sessions. I go spinning once or twice a week because I like to do other classes in between. I'd get bored doing the same thing every day.

Once a week isn't going to kill your progress, assuming you don't go completely overboard. Why stop doing things you both enjoy? Make it a maintenance day i.e. don't go over 2000 calories. Or, as someone else suggested, eat before going out.

I'm an absolute lager lout :) Okay, I haven't had a beer since I started this diet but we move house a week on Monday and we'll practically be on our favourite pub's doorstep. I don't plan on boycotting going out and not enjoying life for the sake of losing weight. As long as I do it in moderation it won't effect my weight loss :)

Remember, moderation is key!

People that try to "peek" at my machines or keep looking at me while I'm working out at the gym piss me off.

I'm exactly the same. What's it to anyone else what I'm doing? People 'competing' really aren't doing themselves any favours. Stick to your own routine or stick to what you can physically do. Honestly, if people notice you're peeking or competing they probably just think you're a loser anyway, regardless of whether you're doing better than them. I don't mean to have a go at anyone or single anyone out, but it's just really off putting.

- I don't want to sweat as much just doing basic things

- I want a better sex life (if I think I'm grotesque when naked then what the hell's my fella thinking?)

- I have clothes that I bought that never fit in the first place. I want to wear those clothes and not see my money go to waste!

- I want to be able to get into mosh pits at gigs and really enjoy myself without having to worry about breathing!

- I don't want to sleep as much or feel worn out anymore; I enjoy life more whilst awake!

Foods does anyone eat the SAME thing all the time? Feb 09 2008
10:34 (UTC)
I eat almost EXACTLY the same thing every day but that's because I suffer from SED (Selective Eating Disorder). I am one of those extreme fussy eaters and don't really have much of a food selection to play with. But saying that, I've had absolutely no issues with weight loss so far.
Weight Loss Quick answer question, going to the cinema soon, what should I take!? Feb 09 2008
10:25 (UTC)

- Grapes are ideal if you have a sweet tooth like me.

- Or maybe a mixture of grapes, cherries & blackberries? Yum!

- Chopped up carrots (although all that crunching on fresh carrots might earn you a few stern looks...)

- Maybe something small like a Go Ahead Honey Crisp bar? I think they're about 100 cals and can satisfy chocolate cravings :)

- A small packet of peanuts? They're high in protein remember!

Weight Loss junk food cabinets!!! Feb 09 2008

I just don't buy sweets and chocolates anymore. If they're not in the house then I'm not tempted! Plus I'm too lazy to get up and go to the shop just for a snack so that works well for me.

If it's in the house it has to be eaten, no matter where it's stored >.<

There are few things you can do within 2 weeks to lose drastic weight or even make a huge difference from the gym. At least, not in a healthy way. It's a long-term process, not a fortnightly fix.

I agree with the others - splash out on a bit of cash and get your hair done and get a new outfit! It'll work wonders and make you feel good :)

Weight Loss Wow- eat more to lose more ? Feb 05 2008

I eat like a horse compared to when I wasn't "dieting".

Before I would only eat once or twice a day but it would be soooo high in calories, and added with too many treats, I gained so much weight.

I now eat throughout the whole day and because it's all healthy I'm losing a steady 2-3 lbs a week. It's actually quite enjoyable because I like the food and I'm never ever hungry!

Motivation Anyone else have trouble drinking enough water?? Feb 03 2008

Drinking water doesn't satisfy me one bit - the only time I drink it is when I'm at the gym.

I cheat and drink 1.5Ltr sugarfree Volvic flavoured water (mostly strawberry) each day. There's very little calories in it so it doesn't impact on my diet and best of all I can drink it like a camel :)

I also have a glass of orange juice first thing in the morning and then sugarfree squash at night.

Works for me :)

Today (for dinner) I had smoked bacon, chicken noodles, cucumber and grated cheese all on the same plate.

I'm an extremely fussy eater so weird meals are very much normal to me :P

Lindz,

Bigmamalola is completely right! I didn't eat much when I was putting on weight, just things REALLY high in calories. So when I started my weight loss journey and found I was eating a lot more food throughout the day I thought it could never work. But it did, and it still does! I never feel like I'm starving because I eat well throughout the day, but even though I'm eating more than I ever used to I'm eating a lot less calories.

The only thing you don't want to do is eat less than 1200 calories otherwise your weight loss won't work and you'll become ill.

Listen to everyone, look at people's before and after pics. They're all living proof that eating more and eating healthily pays off! Good luck.
