I also get this after hard track workouts, which I do twice a week during the season. Unfortunately I can't offer any advice - I have no idea what causes it or if there's anything that prevents it. I've been running for years so I don't think it's a "newbie" thing, but I do know that from what I've heard a lot of people have this problem. |

5'5, 19 and 144 pounds here. I'm a cross country/track runner, I run 7x a week and lift weights on 3 of those days. I eat around 2300 calories to maintain, although I'm currently trying to lose weight so I've been trying to stick to 1500-1800 calories. We're getting new all-spandex uniforms this season... yikes! |

| The Lounge | Why do people dislike tall women? | Jun 07 2009 15:15 (UTC) |

Heels make your legs look fab, so I say go for it. Unfortunately, I do know a tall girl who won't wear heels because her boyfriend doesn't like it (he's something like 5'7"). And I have other friends who insist they "can't wear heels" because they shouldn't be taller than their date. Ridiculous, I say. Short guys need to man up and stop being insecure about these things. |

| Weight Loss | why do you REALLY want to lose weight [be honest] | Jan 25 2009 22:17 (UTC) |
154 |
1. Because I want to look like the serious athlete I am. 2. Because I remember how good I looked almost 30 pounds lighter! 3. Because I want to be able to wear spandex shorts without them travelling up into the netherlands from chub-rub when I run. 4. Speaking of running - I also want to be able to run in just a sports bra and shorts during the summer. 4. Finally, because I love fashion and I'm very limited by my inability to wear anything close-fitting in the stomach area.

I can't keep it in the dorm anymore, or I too will just eat all of it. I can't resist! Back when my bingeing problem was at its worst, I used to go crazy on the PB. But I'm also a runner, and after a few highly unpleasant workouts post-PB binge I've decided to just exile it from my presence, haha. |

| Fitness | Anyone else terrible at running/jogging? | Jan 17 2009 23:49 (UTC) |

Everyone has to start somewhere. I'm now a competitive cross country runner, but a little over two years ago, I could just barely manage a minute of jogging without walking. And I was at a healthy BMI, too. It just takes a while to build up the endurance base needed to run long distances. The smoking is definitely working against you, but I'm sure you know that. Like a lot of people here, I started with the Couch to 5k plan. It really does work! I know it's frustrating to have to very slowly advance to running longer distances without stopping, but eventually it does get easier. For me, once I was able to continuously run for twenty minutes, my endurance increased a lot faster. Think of it as incentive to stay in shape so you don't have to go through that again! |

Artichokes and green beans. They're just horrible, I literally gag when I taste them, yet all my friends seem to love them. Banana haters make me sad. I eat around two a day... more for me, I guess. |

| Fitness | Why you love running | Nov 15 2008 14:18 (UTC) |

Because it makes my legs look sexy, and gives me an excuse to wear split shorts and running tights in public. Really though, it's hard to say why I love running. It means so much to me that I just can't put that feeling into words. All my life prior to running I was a couch potato, soft and lumpy and awful at every sport. When I got home after school, I would just sit around doing nothing. Running gave me purpose, motivation, and friends that I now consider my second family. I've finally found something I'm passionate about and relatively good at, and as cheesy as this sounds I feel like it was a rebirth of sorts for me. With no game strategies or time-outs, running forces you to look within yourself for inspiration to push harder than you think you can, and it makes you so much stronger. And of course, nothing beats the feeling of a solitary trail run with mud squishing under your shoes and the occasional sight of deer darting away through the trees. I love it and I just can't get enough! :) |

| Young Calorie Counters | College Students, what did you eat today? | Sep 04 2008 14:34 (UTC) |

Exercise is thankfully no problem for me, because I'm on my school's cross country team and we run and lift weights every day, plus core stability work and plyometrics a few days a week. It's hard to resist overeating because I'm always hungry from all this training! Today's breakfast was a granola bar before my morning run, and multigrain cheerios with soymilk and an apple when I got back. I have classes 10-2 pm so I'll probably have another apple or something between them, and a salad with some meat on top for lunch (full lunch here closes at 2, from 2-3:30 only the salad/side bars are open). Aiming for around 1400-1500 calories total today. |

Hi guys, I've been seeing this thread around for ages and finally figured I'd join, since running is pretty much like crack for me (and I'm training for collegiate XC, so there will eventually be 50 mile weeks). Is it okay if I just jump in? If so, I ran 4 miles today. :) |

I love to run! I always feel like a slug on my day off, haha. During XC season I get around 35 miles per week, for track I do 20-25. I miss our team long runs of 8+ miles, but no one really wants to do them on winter mornings! I'm also hoping to run for my future college team, still waiting for a reply from the coach. |

| I definitely have that problem. I sneak glances at nutrition labels when no one's around, I wait for my family to leave so I can weigh food, I even rinse off measuring cups and replace them in the pantry when possible so no one knows I've been using them to measure portions.
I just get sick of how people invariably roll their eyes upon finding out I'm watching calories! I don't actually tell anyone for that very reason, but my mom feels compelled to give an explanation when we're visiting someone and I turn down extra food. And then there are the comments about how anal and obsessive I am, courtesy of my family. I feel better than ever now that I'm getting fit and healthy, but I can't help but be affected by all this. Guess that's just life, though! |

| I gave up non-diet soda, fried foods, Chinese takeout, and fast food - except for Quizno's, which I love madly and still eat once a week, though just a small Turkey Lite now.
I was shocked by how many calories are in poptarts and muffins from Harris Teeters' bakery (around 480 for both pastries or one muffin - yikes), so I reluctantly gave them up as well. Everything else I just eat in moderation! |

| I'm a high school student. I don't play any sports, but I am involved in French Club and the Gay-Straight Alliance, and hopefully next year I can join the academic team in English. When college rolls around, I intend to major in computer science. I hope to be either a programmer or web designer in the future.
This summer, I'm working part-time for my dad's construction company. It's pretty strenous stuff - I'm amazed that he does it ten hours a day! He's the kind of guy who can eat a thousand calories of ice cream alone every day and not gain weight, because he burns it all off at work. I basically do all kinds of odd work both for his jobs and improvements on our own house, such as painting (painting fifteen rafters in succession on an eighty-degree day = sweat city), sanding, and of course hauling bucketsful of debris. Building up the ol' "guns", you know. |

| I made these the other day... they were delicious! There are only a couple left now after my parents plowed through most of them (I've had three, haha). I used lowfat yogurt instead of sour cream, and next time I might try using Splenda.
I actually had to make the last muffin sans blueberries because I ran out, but that was most probably just me overusing them in the first place. In any case, it still tasted good! |
