Motivation Lost 100lbs 80lbs more to go and starting to lose my motivation. Any help? Sep 02 2008

Kimlanier08, that is fantastic progress!! 100 pounds?!?!  Whoo hoo!!!  You're amazing!  I know you can lose the last 80, even if it is harder . . . Hang in there!!  :D

I DO know what you mean, though, about losing steam.  I've lost 50+ pounds and have 50-70 to go and am finding my early enthusiasm (I've been at this about the same length of time you have) dwindling . . .

In order to try to stick with everything, despite the loss of enthusiasm and motivation, I'm trying to check in with CC 2-3 times a week and make sure I log calories at least on those days to keep myself "honest" and aware.  More feels like a chore when I'm super busy, and less seems to allow me too much time to slack or lose focus.

I hope things "de-stress" for you, and if you want to add me as a friend, I'd be happy to try to help you stay motivated.  Somehow, it seems easier for me lately to give support to others!  :)

Hi!  I hope everyone has had a good week!  Our "first" week was crazy but good, and I was happy to see the long weekend roll around.  :)

I don't know about a liquid diet.  I think I'd miss chewing, too!  LOL

I do agree with the protein in the morning idea, though, and would suggest also having something high in fiber and a lot of h20.  :)  I get really filled up when I eat oatmeal w/brown "sugar" splenda and nuts or a "veggie" sausage on a whole wheat tortilla with some egg beaters or egg whites.  That keeps me going much better than just carbs.

I've done pretty well this week, but given the later time we've been eating dinner, I think I'm going to have to sacrifice the "evening snack/dessert" for a mid-afternoon snack.  I've been eating lunch around noon and not getting dinner in until 7:30 or so, and I'm actually faint.  So, this week, I shopped with that in mind and am taking both a lunch and a snack to school every day.

How's everyone's "exercise" plan?  Mine was non-existant, except for gardening and lawn work, but I found a work-out buddy.  We've agreed to meet two times a week at the wellness center to do cardio, so that will be an improvement.  :D

Yay!  The teachers have found us!  :)  Welcome to everyone!

Dannie, you sould like you have your hands full right now.  I dont know how you do it all!  I'll bet you don't need any extra "exercise."  :)  That cruise sounds like fun, though, so hang in there and let us kinow how school and your healthy eating plan are going.

Ana_kay, congrats on getting married and moving!  Is your new hubby fit?  My fiance and I are trying to do this healthy stuff together, but sometimes he just doesn't get it.  :)

weirdmom, I like your notebook idea.  I think posting what I eat is a real eye-opener.  I tend to underestimate calories (or forget about what I've eaten, believe it or not), if I just try to rely on my memory.  I think menu planning and measuring portions helps, as does drinking a LOT of water.  haha!

jinxozzie, congrats on the weight loss!  Yes, those dreaded treats (usually baked goods where I work) are sneaky, aren't they?  Maybe the couch to 5k plan will help?  How does it work?  What phase are you in now?  I do 30 minutes on the elliptical, but it is at a really slow pace.

Olivia77, welcome aboard and thank you for teaching English at the HS level!!  I'm impressed!!  :)  Your progress is absolutely amazing, and I'd LOVE to see that motivation post with all the tips.  I'm thinking about getting a bike but am worried my backside is too big.  At what point did you get yours?  What kind did you get?

Averitia, sure, join us!!  Your progress is amazing, too!  Good for you!  Do you find it easier to be healthy during the school year?  I do, for the most part.  I don't know how you deal with 25-minute lunch periods, though.  Phew!!!

Anyhow, hello to everyone!!  I'm glad you found this thread and hope you'll come back to check in with us.  I'm off to get ready for my first day of classes tomorrow, whoo hoo!!  I'd better pack my lunch, huh?  ;)

Hi, everyone!  Welcome letsgetitstarted!

I'm glad we have this thread and the accountability emails.  It seems my "pattern" is one of doing well and staying focused (on the wagon) for about two to three weeks at a time.  Then, something (exercise, food, posting) always seems to get off track.  Without this thread and the nifty emails you all send, I might never recover from these "slips," but so far I've gotten back on the wagon each time with these reality checks.  So, THANKS!

Last week was crazy busy.  I'm hoping this one will be better.  It is my first week back teaching full time!  :)  I'm excited about it and the new students, but already missing the summer schedule of getting up late and reading, gardening, cooking, working out, etc.  <sigh>

I hope everyone is having a good weekend and has done well with their goals!  :D

Super, enjoy your conference, and we'll figure out something to set as a topic.  Don't worry!  :)

Hi all!  This is just a quick post, but I didn't want to be AWOL! :D

School started this week with our in-service, and I'm running around like crazy trying to get everything ready in between meetings.  Ack!  I promise I'll be more involved in the "Wagon" discussions next week!

This week, I did well with my eating plan and lost 2 pounds.  I did NOT, however, work out three times.  I only made it twice.  I think, however, another professor and I are going to start going to the gym together in two weeks, so that should help to keep me on target.

I hope everyone is doing well and keeping up with their goals!  Keep up the good work!  :)

Well, the summer started out kind of crazy with all the flooding and weather-related surprises, but for the last 4 weeks, I've really been fortunate to have the homefront back to normal and have made some good progress on returning to healthier eating and living.

I've stuck to my 1500 calories a day rule religiously, other than the 3 days I knew I was traveling and "splurging" on foods I can't get at home, and that's pretty good!

I've also lost 10 pounds, which makes me feel a lot better.  And, I think I'm enough "back on track" with shopping and meal prep that going back to work full time won't derail me.

Although exercise is still a chore and I don't do it as much as I could/should, I'm doing some, and I think that's a step in the right direction.

super, you've made amazing progress, and I'm particularly inspired by the exercise routine!  Way to go!!  :D  Good luck with Phase 2!

hi, all!  OMG--after only losing 2 pounds in 3 weeks, I lost 5 pounds this morning!!  And, I checked it 3 times, so it was accurate!  Whoo hoo!!!  Maybe all that extra water and fiber yesterday helped, eh?  ;)  Regardless, I'm delighted.  It was getting a little depressing around here, ya know?  :)

I'll weigh in whatever day y'all want.  If I can't post that day, I'll get back to you when I can.  :D

I hope everyone is having a good day!

Wow!  Good question and great ideas!

I've done several things.  1) upped water to 100oz a day and fiber to 25g+; 2) limited coffee to one cup a day with skim milk and splenda, rather than sugar and cream; 3) dropped pop almost entireld; 4) switched to high fiber pastas, wraps, and breads; 5) worked out 3-4x a week; 6) logged foods to see how many cals/fat gs they really have (eek!); 7) started eating fresh fruit and raw veggies a LOT; and 8) made sure I added a multi-vitamin and calcium to my day.

I hope this helps!  Keep the good ideas coming, OK?  :)

OMG!!  I lost 5 pounds since yesterday!!  I even triple checked the scale!!!  Whoo hooo!

Granted, I was very frustrated since I've been working SO hard and working out all the time and had only lost two pounds in three weeks (which, face it, ain't much when you're 240+).  BUT, finally, the scale moved--and all at once!!

It is actually kind of funny b/c yesterday I drank WAY more water than I usually do--honestly, like 130oz--and I ate a higher fat % (closer to 30 than 20) and higher fiber (38g instead of the normal 25g).  But really?!!?  Who knew?  And, don't laugh, on top of that, yesterday I ended up NOT exercising.  How ironic, right?  I worked out the previous 3 days and lost nothing, and then BOOM, no work out and pounds lost.

Anyhow, I'm excited, as you can probably tell.  And, yes, msmeg, I too have scale issues.  It is either my worst nemesis or my bestest friend.  LOL.

And, super, that's amazing about the capri's!!  I hope, someday, to be back in "regular" sizes for good.  I'll bet it made you feel so healthy and strong and motivated . . . YAY!  :)

Have a good day, everyone, and keep the wagon in sight!  :D

I make "dip" out of ff yogurt and you name it: lf sesame Asian dressing, chives and onion powder, salsa and black beans, curry, etc.  Then I eat about 2 TBLS of it with raw carrots, cukes, snow peas, broccoli, zucchini, etc.

I also take ff cream cheese, red onions, tomato slices, and spinach and put it on a half a pita with a drizzle of balsamic vinegar on top.  It is very good and not too high in cals.

Other than that, my latest kick has been to make my own, homemade "Lara" type bars.  I save them for eating around exercise time.  :D  They're higher in fat (but the good kind) and natural sugars, but still good for you.  They involve minced dates, dried (no sugar added) cranberries or cherries, chopped (almost ground) almonds or walnuts, some whole oats, and sometimes a tiny bit of coconut or a few miniature chocolate chips.

Hi all!  May I join too?  I'm a teacher, just turned 37, have no kids (although I have a cat who thinks she is one!  :D), and am engaged to a man I've been dating for 3 years.  He verbally supports my efforts to lose weight and get healthier, but he still eats badly, loves to eat out, and is a couch potato himself.  That's hard.  I love this site b/c of the support!

I'm 5'7", currently 241 (highest=288, lowest=150) after being on CC for 2 years (on and off), and I'm trying to learn to like exercise again and eat better.

When I was in HS and college, and weighed 150, I loved activity and played varsity volleyball and rugby (yes, rugby! :D), but I ruptured a tendon in one leg, broke the other, and had several ligament tears when I hyperextended my knee (all due to a medical condition that affects joints and connective tissues).  As a result of my inactivity and the steroids and other medical treatments, my weight ballooned in my mid 20s and kept getting worse as I went to grad school and simply sat at a desk reading and writing all day.  Now, still dealing with the medical issues, I'm trying one elliptical or treadmill day at a time :) to get down to a lower weight.

Oh, and I'm eating 1500 calories a day and trying to work out for 30-45 minutes 3-4x a week.  :)

Today was a pretty good day.  I exercised yesterday and promptly got awarded a trip to the doc-in-the box as a result.  Well, not really.  Actually, after going to the gym, I got stung by a wasp in my car and had an allergic reaction before I could get home.  Luckily, I live 3 miles from the gym, and the Acute Care Center is in between the gym and my house!!  Other than that, the last two days have been good food-wise, just HOT and MUGGY.  Ick.

hopeful31, I am so sorry about your dog.  I understand and emphathize.  Last year, I lost a cat--my first pet as a "grown up" on my own--to cancer.  Before I adopted him, he had been abused and sustained several injuries, including a broken jaw and paw.  The vet told me when I took him that he might not live the rest of the year, but he was special to me and made it 11 years, and the loss was devastating.  Please know that I'm thinking about you and sending my support.

Raven, 11 KM is amazing!!! Way to go!

Ciosa, I wish I could find an exercise I liked . . . good job!

supersized, I've done that before with the dry vs. wet ingredients but the other way around.  You just have to laugh.  One day early in my health quest, I thought the 3/4 cup serving of rice meant before it was cooked, rather than after.  When I cooked it, I thought, "sweeeeeet, I get to eat a ton of rice!!!!!"  Needless to say, I have since (sadly) been informed of my mistake.  Sigh . . .

msmeg, Thanks!  I'll be hopping over to that link shortly, since it is 7:40 p.m. here, and very few people are around!  :D  And, 3 miles?  You rock!

Hi Zena, I wasn't part of your original support group, but I'd be happy to help you with your weight loss and be a CC friend!

I'm straight but not narrow (not that it matters) and a"Safe Zone" advocate at work for young adults who are GLBT or questioning.  IMHO, nobody should be discriminated against for their sexual orientation--or race, class, gender, religion, marital status, philsophical beliefs, disabilities, size, ketchup preference (j/k, everyone knows Heinz is best!  LOL), etc..

BTW, I've got about 50-70 pounds to go, am working on getting back to exercising 4 days a week after having hyperextended my left knee this past winter, and I've been on this site for about 2 years.  :)

Hi All,

Raven21, I also have weekend issues.  I went to the Fair and a Street Festival this weekend, and I ate a little too much food . . . sigh.  And, it seems like so few people are around on CC over the weekends . . . maybe we can touch base with each other and kept motivated . . .

12 weeks, huh?  So, that would be end of October, right?  I'm just hoping, honestly, to be doing 30+ minutes of cardio 3-4x a week and weights 2-3x and not hating it or ending up sore every single day.  I did my 4x cardio and 3x weights last week, and felt like a train wreck--super sore and creaky, and I'm in my 30s, so that was depressing.  I'm also going to try to be drinking 64-100oz of water or crystal light daily (so far, I've only messed this up on the weekends, when I tend to drift towards diet coke).  Last but not least, I'm going to save up for a new pair of workout shoes and some new comfy exercise socks, which I will hopefully be using by then.  The ones I have now are kinda worn out, and I suspect that may be why I've had knee and back aches.  Unfortunately, since I'm a teacher on 10-month contract, we don't have the extra to get those for a bit, so I'll keep hanging on.  :D

Good job with the goals, everyone!  Have a great day!!  :)

vicki, you and I should pair up as motivational coaches.  I cook all the time and have the food thing pretty well down (as long as I'm not being lazy or tempted by something unexpected in the breakroom), but I am an exercise flunky.

Honestly, I've worked out three days this week, and am sore, sore, sore.  I hate it.  I know it is good for me, so I rationalize it, but I am not very active.  I prefer reading to running, playing on the computer to playing soccer, and listening to music in my favorite chair to listening to music while drowning in sweat on the elliptical.  But, on the flip side, I plan my menus, shop efficiently, know the night before what I'll have for breakfast, and don't drink out at all or very rarely.  Maybe we can help each other figure this out . . . what would really be wonderful is if you could exercise FOR me, haha!  just kidding!  LOL.

Totally Bizarre Question:

Do you think people of NY will sue restaurants more now?  I mean, if employee X makes your salad one day using exact measurements (which doesn't always happen in food services, believe me), and employee Y puts more croutons, dressing, and cheese on it the next day, couldn't the nutritional information shown be seen as "false" or "inaccurate" almost all the time, and couldn't someone (say, a diabetic or someone on Alli or with a medical condition that prohibits the consumption of large amounts of fat) then legitimately sue because of false advertising or lack of accurate disclosure?  oh, my . . .

I know, I read way to many legal thrillers . . . but I just wondered how the city was going to enforce and check all those nutritional totals . . . what a job, huh?  :D
Foods Sushi Jul 24 2008

As long as you go light on the soy sauce (high in sodium, hence water retention) and avoid the rolls with fried foods, cream cheese, or "spicy mayo" (high fat), you should be able to eat sushi pretty much without guilt.  Maybe, if you're worried about the white rice being sort of "empty" carbs, go for half sushi/half sashimi (just the fish).  With all the omegas and the fiber and nutrients in the nori, fish, veggies, ginger, and tea, you should be OK.

Have fun!!

Ooh!  Good ones, so far!  :)

It definitely depends on what you're both interested in and what "effect" you're going for, but if he's really great and you both get along well, whatever you do is going to be amazing.

What about a twilight picnic and stargazing, if you're aiming for romantic?  Or, roadtrip to a night baseball game in the nearest city with a major league team.  Or, go on a "murder mystery cruise," if you're near one.  Or, take a lesson (dancing, surfing, sailing, golf, cooking, pottery, Italian, whatever) together.

My fiance' and I did all of these when we first met, and we also really enjoyed going to a Renaissance Faire, an Amish community, museums, and the zoo together.

Have fun, and be sure to let us know what you did on your date.  :)

I'm with salome--I love the egg beaters (actually, I use "better 'n eggs" because they're cheaper).  Usually, I scramble them with black beans, salsa, and mushrooms and put the whole mess in a whole wheat pita or wrap.  Delish!  :D

I agree with alysha_, although I do have one "flavored" water packet a day (I'd have more, but they get pricey).

I also avoid the partially hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, deep-fried foods, foods with added white sugar, and--because I have portion control issues with them--most full-fat cheeses.  I do, occasionally, have a little of them or of low fat cheese, though.

I make my own multi-grain, whole wheat, or oat bread and pizza dough but buy La Tortilla Factory whole wheat tortillas b/c they are very high in fiber and I don't have time to make everything from scratch.  :D

fatfiregirl, I'm assuming you've probably already done fruit and other veggies quite a bit, but what about sugar free jello or the ff, sugar free puddings?  Or ff or lowfat, no sugar added yogurt? They're pretty low cal.  Egg whites are only 20 cals, so hard boil several and eat those for some protein, maybe?  Or make egg salad with them and some ff mayo?

Maybe chewing gum every now and then instead of snacks might help, too?

Good luck, and I'll look forward to seeing what everyone else contributes to this list, since I'm always looking for good snacks, too.  :D

Hi all, may I still join?  I'm glad to see this thread.

I don't have 150 to lose, but I originally had 130+ pounds to lose when I started using CC, exercising, and eating healthier two years ago.

So far, I've lost and kept off 40+ pounds, and now have 90 to go.  At one point, I had lost more but fell off the wagon after multiple family crises and an injury (yes, I'm an emotional eater and a foodie).  Right now, I'm about a third of the way there, and it is definitely a slow journey, but I'm not going to give up!  :D
