| Hi lihelen! Good for you for working out. I like running on the treadmill too. I know you think 900 calories a day is enough, and maybe it is for a short awhile, but eating like that isn't enough to keep your body away from starvation. What'll happen is you'll wreck your metabolism and harm your overall health. Be gentle on yourself; if you get to your goal through developing good habits it won't be so stressful! | |||

| Can I join too? It's really motivating to be part of a same size group! I'm 32, 5'0". I love my 3" platform shoes! Right now I'm 107. Last summer my goal was 95, I got down to 97, and then gained back 10 pounds over the winter. Now my goal is 100 and then to maintain with healthy eating and exercise. | |||

| I've noticed this too. It makes me sad. I volunteer at a hospital and they have a McDonalds and a crappy cafeteria that doesn't promote healthy food. It seems like we should be investing some of our health care dollars on programs that make making healthy choices easier and more available to everybody. | |||

| dhm - What sort of exercise do you do? I've noticed that when I up my intensity, I gain water weight. I figure my muscles must be using more water somehow. | |||

| bubbly, I'm kind of maintaining. Read my journal if you want more info. It's public, but I'll friend you.
I used to study all the time. Last month I got cable internet and now all I do is surf the net. I should go back to dial up so I can get my life back! |

| dhm-I've been cycling around the same weight for about 4 weeks now, but I've really learned a lot more about my body because of how much I've been paying attention to it. As long as you work towards building healthy habits, everything else will fall in place. | |||

| I just looked at her journal. She is very organized! But I think you can do that fairly simply in your journal by using the different colors. I'm sure she'd be happy to explain her system! That organization might have been part of her success. | |||

| Maintaining | How do you know when to maintain? | Aug 21 2006 02:31 (UTC) |
1 |
| I'm quasi maintaining. I'm at the upper end of healthy weight for my size and I'd like to slowly get down to the lower end of my healthy weight range. What prompted me to start a maintaining attitude was I was getting too obsessed with the idea of needing to reach a certain weight. While I'd still like to see that weight, I'm now trying to enjoy my current weight and concentrate more on toning. | |||

| On Tuesday I went to a seafood resteraunt and had fried fish and a couple of beers. I was only about 300 calories over my maintenance allowance, and I didn't feel bad about it. I hadn't had any alcohol in months, but I didn't feel hung over or anything in the morning. The funny thing is the next evening I was working out, and after I got off the treadmill I felt weak and shaky, and I felt like I might faint. I ate some toast and felt a little better, but the effects of the bad food REALLY affected me post workout. It was a good lesson about the effects of fried food and beer on my body. | |||
| Weight Loss | How to get motivated? | Aug 18 2006 04:42 (UTC) |

| Start to slowly add activity to your day. The hard part is the motivation to get to the gym - once you're there, everything is good, but you probably are so overwhelmed by your goals that it's hard to even start. Instead of thinking - today I'm going to exercise for an hour, think today I'm going to exercise for 10 minutes. Do that for awhile, just to get your mind in the groove of wanting a little bit, every day. After that it'll be easier to incorporate more, but don't overwhelm yourself with great big fitness goals. It'll happen as you develop small, easily attainable habits.
Also, don't compare your fitness abilities to your husband's. Again, that will just overwhelm you and make you anxious; go at your own pace. |

| Thanks! You guys are the best. Our creepy neighbor across the street commented "you should have been more alert." wtf? We actually heard a strange noise last night but decided not to investigate. My boyfriend felt bad, like he could have stopped the theft, but I'm actually glad because if he saw it he would have confronted the theives and they might have attacked him and been violent.
I'm staying postive, I realize that I'm healthy and mobile and have a lot going for me. I'm not going to let any stupid a** thieves get me down! |

| Thanks guys! You've cheered me up. I have a Honda Civic. I bought it because of its saftey rating, but I was naive and didn't think about it being such a hot item for theives. There's tons of cars on my block that are MUCH nicer than mine, but I guess my little civic was a target. | |||
