It depends on who is going to be the VP choice.

One of the guys running is going to get shot and the other one will most likely expire from old age.

HA! where do you live? Disneyworld?

Just about every guy I know has done that to their friends.

In Fact, just about all of them

I guess my sarcasm didn't read as well as I hoped it would. Laughing

Then the thread degenerated into a bunch of whining about bikes on the path bikes on the road taking the lane making left turns from the left turn lane all the way to what a cyclist wears.

The whole thread was a place to vent about cyclists and how much they suck and are hated. There are about 50 pro-cyclists threads around CC. Go find one of those.

Have you fallen off your tricycle one too many times? Is this too hard of a concept to grasp or something? It's a thread venting about cyclists. Get over it.

In post 14 I replied that  I  agree with the op and previous posters have said about scofflaw bicyclist.  I also  call those cyclist organ donors.

Then the thread degenerated into a bunch of whining about bikes on the path bikes on the road taking the lane making left turns from the left turn lane all the way to what a cyclist wears.

I see bicyclist and motorist doing wrong things all the all time. Natual selection will take care of those cyclist and motorist who make bad decsions. unfortunatley those bad motorist decisions kill other people.

Do I wear spandex ? Yes I do on really long rides that are going to be over 50 miles.  Most of the time I am crusing around in what ever I happen to be wearing at the time.  So does that make a good or bad cyclist? I can say that I have never been hit by a car. I have avoided a few collisions by remaing alert and paying attention to what is going on around me. I am pretty lucky that most of the drivers where I live are pretty decent to cyclist and give us plenty of room.

You Nazi car drivers are going to have to accept the fact that bicycles are allowed and often times required to use the road since it is illegal to ride on the sidewalks. Get  over it.

I avoid the paths unless I am riding with my 5 year old. Most of the time pedestrians have the I pod turned up and don't hear me give a warning that I am about to pass. Crossing the road from the path is also dangerous.  I think I read the comments that the bicycle just popped out in front of me. By riding on the roads and taking the lane motorist will see me and I won't be suprising them. Eventually roads should (and will) be designed primarily for bikes, walkers and buses. Some city streets, but not many, might have a narrow striped lane for cars, off to the side of the roadway. But until that happens (and it probably won't be within my lifetime, unfortunately), I'm going to concentrate on keeping safe on the streets I'm stuck with. In my experience, that means I'll mostly ride vehicularly with a defensive flavor, while staying flexible enough to come up with some new adaptive ideas.

I agree on the engineer part. If they actually rode a bike they wouldn't put those manhole covers in the bike lane.

Bwaaaaahhh you poor wittle car drivers that can't see a bicycle on the road in front of them. We ride in the road because the law allows us too. What part about sidewalk don't you understand?  Today I had the pleasure of riding in an organized event that the police stopped cars at intersections so that I could cruise through without having to stop. It is sad that 40,000 + motorist lose their lives while driving.

What a shame that the number one cause of death for citizens of the USA is heart disease. If more people cycled that number would drop.

You are going to want to use heartrate monitor. When your fitness level increases you will burn less calories while riding. I ride 30 miles every day ( Bike Commuter) to work and back. When I first started riding my moderate speed was 12 mph. Now my moderate speed is 18 mph for the same effort.

I've given up buying new books.  I love to have books to pass on to other folks, but now, instead, I use the library only.

I have used the library for years. If I bought every book I ever read I would need my own library store them. by using the library I don't have to store as many books in my home.

I haven't had to give up anything.

I already don't drive much since I am a avid cyclist and prefer riding over driving. So gas prices haven't had an effect on my.

I bring my lunch to work anyway since I am trying to avoid high fructose corn syrup and partally hydrogenated oils and MSG.

Some of my investments have lost some value but nothing major as of yet.

Like I said Cyclist have cars and pay the same fees for those cars as anyone else. Just because we choose to use a different vehicle on the road at any given time does not mean that we don't pay our fair share.

A little good news for cyclist safety

I guess the way some motorist look at it is we pay to use the road, cyclist don't.....

That is a pretty weak argument.

Cyclist  pay for the roads just like everyone else. We pay property taxes sales taxes and most of us also own cars and pay fuel taxes and registration taxes on those vehicles. The difference is that bicycles don't damage the road like cars do. If the laws change and I need to register my bike I will I don't have problem that. Until then I will ride the streets just like I always have.

I am not going to get into all what I "believe," but what are the actual rules? I mean, I heard someone say that bikers are not allowed on side walks. Is that true? And are they really SUPPOSED to ride in the middle of the road?!

I think the couple serious cyclists may have abandoned this thread, but as far as I know in IL cyclists are NOT legally allowed to ride on the sidewalk. I do not think it's illegal for them to ride in the middle of the road, but from what I could gather they are strongly encouraged not to.

I won't be bullied so I am still here.

Here is the IL rule book for cyclist.

Where are all of the cyclist haters in this thread. Car blows a light and takes out a kid.

I hope the kid is ok to ride another day.

I also had a close call with a red light runner on a bike, it was a small intersection and I crossed once my light turned green then suddenly this pickup truck goes by right in front of me. I guess he thought he had 'time' since no one was crossing from his side of the street?? not realizing a bike crosses a lot faster than a pedestrian?? but red light runners hit other motorists and pedestrians too, it's not just a biker thing...

anyway I'm sorry you had to witness that, hopefully the kid will be ok.

I understand what you are saying. There are 5 pages of hatred for cyclist that don't follow the rules. Then there is this post about a kid getting nearly killed by a motorist not following the rules and that seem to be acceptable.
