Binge eating. Gotta love it. Gotta hate it. It is so hard to control. But what I think really kills a healthy lifestyle is the extra 150 calories a day that add up to a pound or two a month and sneak up on you, until you look in the mirror and shout "what happened to me?" 

It sounds like you have things under control.

You're right. For most people, the pounds lost by dieting is short term. They gain it back after they have met their goal, if they are lucky enough to do so. However, a lifelong commitment to reasonable portions and exersize does work long term, and calorie counting is a great way to control portions. Keep up the good work.

A good rule of thumb is: 12 times your body weight to maintain. Less than that to lose. 7 times your body weight is insanely low.

It's a lonely forum because there are not many of us. I met my goal of losing 40 pounds over a year ago, and I have maintained my weight within a few pounds of 175 since then. So I guess I'm a maintainer, but.....I want to lose ten more pounds in the next six months. I guess I can be in two catsgories at once, kind of calorie counting split personality.
