Hi! Thanks for your reply!
I've actually been doing pretty good the past few days on 2000 calories. There were a few days when I didn't actually "count", but I didn't go much over 2000, and it looks like I've lost about 2lbs, according to my scale!!! WOO HOO!!! So I think I'll be alright if I stay right around 2000 for now. I think you're right though. My body just needed a few days to get used to eating 2000. :-) Hope your little man feels better soon. It's NO fun when they're sick! |

Hello ladies!!!!
First let me start by saying that I was only 10lbs. from my goal weight of 135 last year, then I got pregnant. (I had lost a total of 67 lbs.) I am a 30 year old SAHM, and have a 4 year old, a 2 year old, and a 2 month old. I am planning on BF'ing as long as my son wants to (probably not past 2 years old though) I gained around 50lbs. this pregnancy, and didn't lose much after he was born. I wanted to start up and get back in the groove of things, but from what I had read in various places, it said I should wait until AT LEAST 6 weeks PP. I just started CC again last week, and didn't even know WHERE to begin calorie wise, so I started at 2000. My Nurse Practitioner said that I would lose weight with 2000 calories. So, I tried that for about 4 days, and I was STARVING!!!! Has anyone else had that problem???? The only empty calories that I've had have been 280 calories worth of chocolate chips to satisfy my sweet tooth. I am SOOO bummed because I started CC when my second child was 7 months old, and automatically lost 2 lbs. a week for the first 4 months, just from CC. After that I had to incorporate exercise. Anyway, I am afraid to eat more because I don't want to gain, but on the other hand, I don't want to starve myself either. Anyone else eating more than 2000 calories and losing??? I should also mention that I weight 185. My original goal weight was 135 (last year) but right now, I would be happy to get down to 145 where I was when I got pregnant. As far as exercising, I don't have a lot of time to do that while my son is so little. I am attached to him all the time (more like him attached to me!!! LOL!), and my older girls don't take naps anymore, so I can't use nap time to exercise like I did before. My husband is off 3 days a week, so that is about the only time I can exercise. Ok, gotta go, the baby is crying. :-) Haidi |

| I wouldn't skip dinner. I would just eat something low cal, exercise, and start over tomorrow. As long as you are not going over your maintenance calories, you should be fine. :-) | |||

As far as the "losing fast" then slowing down... I lost my first 30 or so pounds that way. I was losing 2lbs. a week (and this was just CC, with NO exercise) and then WHAM! All of a sudden, it stopped going so fast, and it hasn't gone that fast since. ( I do exercise now). I think that is pretty common. I am not sure what the reason is for it, but I also know that people keep telling me that I look skinnier every time they see me, and I have only lost an additional 5lbs over about 2 or 3 months! So, as you seem to have observed, just because the scale's not going anywhere, doesn't mean that your body isn't doing something. :-)
Best wishes! |

In response to Sidblack, I eat cheeseburgers about every week. We make them ourselves, and I can have a cheeseburger with fries (baked) and ketchup all for around 550 calories. YUM! It's one of my favorite things to have for dinner!
As far as the ice cream goes, I am an icecream-a-holic! I allow myself to have ice cream. I just measure mine according to the servings, and usually 1/2 cup is one serving. You can find ice cream for 140 calories a serving, and that's not so bad. :-) Just think of it as a serving of dairy! Haidi |

I am so sorry for what your fiance said to you. That was really hurtful and wrong of him.
To start, first, you need to believe that you CAN do this, and you have to want it bad enough. Second, fill in all of the info on this site, and start using the tools to help you. Third, get on the forums to get support, advice, etc. Also, start doing some sort of cardio exercise. YOU CAN do this, and you deserve it. BUT, don't do it for him. Do it for yourself. Prove to the world that YOU CAN do this (and you can!!!!). Best wishes to you!!! :-) Haidi P.S. I wouldn't say anything to him about you starting this journey. Wait until he notices the changes in you. :-) |

We all have days where we mess up. Just count today as one of those days, and don't do it again for a while. Enjoy your cake tonight, just don't over do it. If we deprive ourselves of the things we like, then it will make it very difficult to keep on going.
Maybe you could give yourself one day every couple weeks were you splurge (within reason). Some people may not agree with that, but you've got to do what works for you, and if giving yourself the occasional treat helps, then I don't see anything wrong with it. :-) Best wishes! Haidi |

Hi Colzdad,
DON'T, DON'T, DON'T give up!!! You CAN do this!!! I have been CC for almost 1 year now (am 10lbs. from my goal!!!!) and I have hit MANY plateaus. It does get a little discouraging, but sometimes you just have to give it time. I just came off a month or so plateau. Someone on here suggested eating my goal weight maintenance calories for a week, so, I did. I don't know if that is what did it or not, but I've lost 2lbs. since last week. Try changing your exercise routine. I also increased my cardio, and I think that probably helped too. I am no expert, but maybe instead of going by the miles that you walk, maybe you oughta try speeding up a a little. Or, maybe try a different form of cardio, like biking or swimming. You could also try zig zagging your calories to trick your metabolism. I have lost a total of 67lbs. so far. If I can do this, ANYONE can. Just DON'T give up!!! :-) Best wishes to you! Haidi |

Hi Julie!
I have been here for almost a year now. I don't get on the boards much these days, but I have 12lbs. to reach my goal. I have lost 65lbs. so far. My main motivation (to get started), was that I was tired of looking at myself in the mirror. I have 2 kids, and gained quite a bit with my first one. I lost a little when my 1st one was a year old, then got pregnant again. I never had major weight problems until I got pregnant the first time and ate whatever and whenever I wanted. Not to mention that my mom is really overweight and is on all sorts of medication for high blood pressure, acid reflux, cholesterol, etc. She is ALWAYS tired and doesn't have a lot of energy. And, my grandfather (her dad) had just had triple bypass surgery. I decided that I didn't want that to be me. Anyway, since losing weight, I guess the actual weight loss is what has kept me motivated. Watching my clothes get too big, and all of the comments on how good I look have helped a lot. I hit a plateau and was stuck for more than a month and I started getting discouraged, but I just increased my cardio and I am seeing some changes. Unfortunately, I never really took measurements, so during my plateau time, I could have been losing inches and didn't know it. I am sure if I was seeing at least some kind of results, I wouldn't have gotten so discouraged. But, anyway, YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! There are many great people on this site that will help you through. If you need any encouragement, you can message me. :-) I would recommend taking measurements (I really wish I had) so that you can see the inches lost as well as the pounds. I will do my best to help you through. :-) Just let me know what I can do. :-) Haidi (pronounced like Heidi) |

Thanks for your reply bigtwinky! I haven't been on in, WOW, 10 days, so I am now just reading it.
Shortly after I posted this, I started increasing my cardio, doing 30 min. several days a week (at least 4) and the scale is FINALLY moving!!!! YAY!!! I will do just about ANYTHING to lose these last few pounds. I have been fluctuating between 145 and 147 for the past few days. Let's hope I go back to 145! ;-) Then I will only have 10lbs. to go! So, does the eating maintenance for a week really work??? |

Thanks for all the info!!!
Well, I have to admit, that I kind of backed off my working out for the past, well, maybe 3 or 4 weeks (not because I am not determined, but because the past month has been hectic for me). Maybe since my body is kind of used to being "lazy", my metabolism will pick up once I start back up because it's been a while since I've worked out... That's a hopeful thought! I was zig-zagging, then I hit a plateau, so I just lowered my calories, and quit eating ANYTHING after dinner, and that helped for a while, then I incorporated a "no counting day" in to my week (although I still technically "counted"!!!). Now, I am back to zig-zagging, and I found that I had to lower my calories since I weigh less. So, we'll see what happens. I have lost another 2lbs. in the past few weeks, so I guess I shouldn't complain. I just wish I was losing 2lbs a week like I did in the beginning!!! Thank you for your replies!!! :-) |

Hi Jamie,
Congrats on your baby! :-) First off, are you breastfeeding your baby? IF you are, and you are still feeling hungry, I would say that you should probably be eating more. If you are not bf'ing, I would still maybe add a little bit more calories since you are exercising a lot and maybe keep them lower on the days that you are not as active. If you are not losing any right now while you are exercising, your body may not be getting enough calories, so your metabolism will slow down. To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you are taking in. I believe anywhere from 500-800 calories less (SOMEONE PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG) than what you are burning is healthy. Good luck to you! Haidi |

| Try your broccoli with cheese on it! That's always been a favorite of mine! You might even want to try super sweet white corn (Sam's choice brand from Wal-Mart) and mix it with peas. YUM! The sweet corn is so good, that if you add another veggie to it, it's pretty good. Also, you can steam some carrots and add a hint of maple syrup to them, or a hint of brown sugar melted with margerine. You could even do a baked potato with steamed broccoli, cheese and light sour cream. Or you could even buy one of those pre bagged stir fry veggies, and have stir fry with chicken, and I always add whole wheat spaghetti to mine to make it like lo mein. YUM! | |||

| Ladies, ladies! This is a GREAT thread!!! Here is a thought... Find yourself a Mary Kay consultant, and have her come over (get some of your girlfriends together) and give yourselves facials!!! I used to use MK and then quit for a while and used a cheap brand of facial cleanser. Well, last year, I became a consultant (just for the discount!!!!) and I started using the Basic Skin Care again, and I tell you what! I felt SO good about myself (even though I was overweight!). I felt like a "woman" again! I also bought myself some of the Color 101 makeups, and started using them, and it just made me feel really good about myself. It's amazing what a little face cleaner and makeup will do for you! :-) | |||

It's possible to lose 6lbs. in 3 weeks, and it would be healthy. When I started out, I was losing an average of 2lbs. a week. I wouldn't do anything drastic though. Go jogging, or get on a treadmill daily, and figure out how many calories you will need to eat to lose. I wouldn't go under that amount.
Good luck to you, and hope you have a Happy Birthday (and fun in NY!) |

WOW, if you are exercising that much, you may need to up your calories a bit. I know you are probably thinking "yeah right" but that might just be what is keeping you from losing.
Are you eating 1400 based on what this site told you?? |

Hi! Are you sure that you are eating enough?? How many calories a day are you eating with the amount of exercise that you are doing? I don't know much about weight loss with diabetes, so I am probably not going to be too much help, but you might want to evaluate how much you are eating. I know it sounds crazy, but if you are not eating enough, you won't lose weight. Are you drinking lots of water? And, how long have you been CC??

Ok, after reading this, I kind of have a question... It doesn't really pertain to this post, but it kind of does.
I have read that you should do your workout before breakfast, because it will make you burn more calories, or something like that. Well, I do my workouts in the morning, but I don't get up at the crack of dawn, so I am not getting my workout started until 9:00 or 9:30, and it takes me about an hour and a half. SO, by the time I am done, it is 10:30 or so, then I eat breakfast. Does this sound ok??? Or should I eat before I start my workout?? And is it really better to work out before eating??? Thanks! |

| Weight Loss | Zig Zagging? | Jan 10 2007 04:08 (UTC) |

| Hi shellevan, Zig-zagging is supposed to "trick" your metabolism so it doesn't know what to expect from day to day, and I guess revs it up. Eventually your body gets used to eating the same amount of calories every day, and your metabolism slows down. I know there are others that can explain it much better than I can, but I have been doing it for about 2 weeks, and it has seemed to be working for me. I hit a plateau, and was worried that I wasn't going to lose anymore, but I read about zz'ing, so decided to try it. This is the site that I figured my zz'ing calories. http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calc ulator.htm Hope that helped a little! Good luck!!! PS I love the date of your wedding!!!! | As far as exercise videos, I really enjoyed Tae-Bo, but that is just me. I also did those before I weighed a lot, so depending on how much you weigh, they may be too difficult to start out with (come to think of it, they are kind of hard). I don't really have any experience with any others, so hope that helps. :-) | |||

| Hi ed_girl3! Congrats on losing a pound!!! ;-) I was planning on joining the gym, but it seemed a little intimidating for me, so I started doing strength training at home, and have been for the past 2 weeks. I actually got the link from someone on here, and it is pretty cool because it gives you all the exercises you need to strengthen everything (and it's FREE!). It is www.freetrainers.com Take a look and see if it may be something you could do. I was SO excited to find that site, and I have been sticking to my strength training! Good luck to you! Haidi | |||
| Weight Loss | How do you tell someone they are overweight? | Jan 05 2007 16:09 (UTC) |

| My mom is pretty overweight, and when I gained all the weight I gained, I think it made her feel good that she had someone else who was overweight with her, and she didn't feel as bad about herself. She started passing down clothes to me (that were several sizes to big!). Well, my grandfather (her dad) just had triple bypass surgery last Spring, and my mom is on all sorts of meds (if she'd lose some weight, she wouldn't have to be on half of them), so that was one of my motivations to losing weight. I didn't want to have to take a bunch of meds (blood pressure, cholesterol, etc) and I certainly didn't want to end up having a heart attack someday! I really don't want my mom to have to be overweight, she has always been "heavy" but not as heavy as she is now. I am concerned about her, but she is the kind of person that wants fast results (of course, who doesn't want fast results??!!). If she doesn't see an improvement, she gives up. She LOVES her sweets (She wants to eat healthy, so she spends a lot of money on health food, but it doesn't do much good when you eat a whole sheet cake for your 50th b-day!) and has no self control (not just with food either! She has OCD) but anyway, her attitude is "I am already this heavy, there's no way I can lose it now". That is her attitude on other subjects too. I did approach her and tell her that I was concerned, I didn't want her to die young, and that I wanted her around for her grandchildren. I was not insensitive, because I KNOW it is a sensitive subject, but I didn't care if she got mad at me for bringing it up. I really am concerned about her, and I am afraid that it is going to take a heart attack for her to make some changes. I was hoping that maybe if I showed some concern for her, that maybe she would start making changes. It's always, "well, I'll start on the 1st of the month", and that NEVER happens. She has done Richard Simmons Deal a Meal in the past and it has worked for her, but like I said, she is at her heaviest and she has a negative attitude. It kinda makes me mad because she said that her doctor is so sweet and doesn't make her feel bad for her weight (I guess he doesn't tell her she needs to lose weight). If he is a good doctor, IMO, he should really be encouraging her. Anyway, I was hoping that by me getting as far as I have, that I could inspire her, but I don't think it's making much difference. She doesn't like to "talk" about losing weight (which I can udnerstand), so I try not to bring it up too much, but I do want to encourage her. She just doesn't want to hear it. I tell her "If I can do it, you can do it". But she is just not as motivated as me. Sorry, didn't mean to go in to all of that. But I guess my point was, that maybe it's not such a bad thing to express concern (and not flat out tell someone that they should lose weight!) for a loved one's health. I would feel like a bad daugther if I didn't express concern. Whether it makes a difference or not, I want her to know that I am worried about her, and I hope that she will make better choices. | |||
