I much on dry Cherios Multi-grain, they taste good, are only 110 calories per cup and they last long enough to kill the hunger pangs.

Guess I wasn't too clear, I stopped my effort to lose a few months ago, lots of upheavals in my life.  Got myself a little bit more on track but I still have the original 30 more pounds to lose plus the 2 I put on.

I have already lost 80 so I know that I can do it if I get my act together.  Thanks for the support, don't feel like such a dork anymore.

A big welcome to you.  This is a great site.  I had 110 lbs to lose and I now have 30 to go.

Feel so much better and stronger and more energetic.  Sure is worth it.  I don't make a big deal out of it, just eat right, count calories and exercise 30 minutes a day (treadmill only).

If I fall off the wagon I just pull up my big girl panties and get back into it.

Every night I have a snack just before bed, have to eat because of medication I have to take.  Don't know if it has affected my weight loss, but I am not complaining, as of today I am down 80 lbs.

When I had them I was told by the doctor to stop even walking, just do what I needed to do till the pain subsided.

Then he sent me to buy some decent walking shoes and I was told to start out very slowly and to stop if it started to hurt.

It worked, this was way last year and it took a month to heal.

I weight every day, have learnt to understand that weight fluctuates on everyone so it doesn really bother me.  I just don't accept a 10 lb fluctuation, and step up my exercising.

Been there done that, what to do, well forgive yourself as after all you are human and resolve to get a salad next time you are at McDs.  Gee, crying over spilt milk never helped anyone but learning about ourselves at a time like this is good.

When I cave in I just say, ya did it again, so next time slap your wrist.  It is not such a big deal if you pick off where you should be.

Just a suggestion, I find that when I plan what I am going to eat tomorrow I am less likely to stuff my face with unhealthy stuff.

Anyhow, like you said, you didn't eat much so you probably caved in because you were hungry.  Just make sure you eat healthy and then you won't be so hungry and apt to have those fries.

I 95% stay on 1200 calories - in order not to be hungry I split them into 6 meals, 300 at breakfast, 50 yogurt snack at 10 along with green tea, 400 at lunch, 50 fruit & green tea at snack, 350 at dinner and then 50 with my meds at 9 pm (have to eat with pills)

When I get hungry I have a large glass of ice cold water or a cup of green tea or a black coffee rarely.

I exercised on the treadmill and cut the lawn so I have allowed myself 100 calories extra of almonds for a snack.

Not easy, but living alone I can just not buy food I shouldn't eat but I never shop when hungry or else the ice cream etc. beckons.

I have been losing between 6 and 10 lbs every month, but have to say that I have taken about 3 months off in all because of holidays and going out of town.  Did not lose during those months but luckily I did not gain either.

Have you had a total physical checkup?  There could be other things going on you know.

Quite the read this thread.  I personally refuse myself the easy way out.  I got this fat on me and I darn well better learn to get it off me.  Same with smoking - conscious decision to start all by myself so I quit 6 years ago (after 50 yrs of doing it) without any help.

When it comes to the weight, for me I guess it is what is most important, I want healthy and slim.  So I made my mind up about 12 months ago to get rid of this extra weight.  I did take 2 months off but did not gain or lose. By simply walking for 30 minutes a day on the treadmill, and eating a well balanced diet of minimum 1200 calories (more on weekends) I have lost 78 lbs to date.

Just got back on the wagon after a month off, feeling lots better because I am eating right, lots of vegetables, fish and chicken along with yogurt and almonds for snacks.  If I eat lots of vegetables I am not hungry.  I just started having some green tea this week, 3 cups a day, the taste grows on you, now I really like it.

Have 32 more lbs to lose, and I will do it.  I feel a lot better about myself, I am getting myself out of a mess I created all on my own.

Figure I would empower myself to know that I can tackle anything I want if I can do this.

Helps to like yourself enough to treat yourself well

Good Health and Take Care.

abbs83, those are the shoes (asics Gel) my doc told me to get for my shin splints.

I was told though to quit walking and let everything heal till it no longer hurt, then to start back up very slowly.  Did that, and have no problems for months now.

Thanks Olivia, need all the help I can get.

Went to visit someone and a very close friend has cancer, and I am very undecided about a relationship.

Will be going back to visit friend and have to eat what they serve, will just eat a lot less I figure, my friend who has cancer will be starting a series of surgery and stay at my house so now I know what I have to do, and the undecided relationship is still undecided.

I am just worried that I will stay unfocused on myself and my proper eating and take the time to exercise.  It was easy to just go with the flow and worry and forget about it.

One thing I noticed, I did not eat junk food, I made a lot of healthy choices when I had the option so maybe some of the change in lifestyle is rubbing off, just not enough though when it comes to quantity.

Good to see this thread, walking is the only exercise I do, have lost 76 lbs (along with watching calories).  Recently started up again as I still have 35 lbs to go.

I initially had shin splints just from walking.  The doctor made me go get good shoes, (ouch $134.00).  Works like a charm, have no leg or feet pain, no blisters at all.  On my limited budget it was difficult but they are 8 months old and in perfect condition.

Being as I life in the cold of Canada and that I am sun sensitive I only walk in malls or on a treadmill, do so 5 times a week for 30 minutes.

Seems to help all around, I recently went to the country and climbed hills all day, a friend mentioned that I could not even walk 1/2 a block without being winded last year.  Now I just don't tire.  I figure walking is one of the best exercise one can do.

Well I have lost 76 lbs, and I eat 120 calories of 'Dare" cookies every night.  I have to as I take a medication where I have to eat with my asthma pill which has to be taken before bedtime.  I just make sure I am within my calores.

I have asked my doctor, a dietician and a nutritionist, they all said it doesn't make any metabolic difference because of what time you eat.

Happy I found this thread, haven't been here for a while.  I have now lost 69 lbs and have 41 to go.

I have been quite faithful except for birthdays and celebrations and visits from out of towners.  I seem to be able to go back to the right way of eating quite easily.

Found out something about myself throughout this, sometimes when I was sad I felt hungry.  At least now I can identify it and not eat.  Now when I feel sad I don't want to eat at all.  Go figure.

I am now using my daughter's treadmill while she is at work, have no idea if it helps as I have tested out being on it for 2 weeks and off for 2 weeks and I lose the same amount of weight.  Will keep it up as it is good for my heart.

Congratulations to everyone, nice to have other in on this with you.

Everymorning just before I jump in the shower.  I am used to the fluctuations, doesn't bother me, I do record every day (mostly).  It is a good motivation when I am on a plateau to see that it happened before and then I lost.  It keeps me honest with my food consumption.

I have asthma, and a lot of allergies, it was impinging a lot more on my quality of life before I lost a lot of weight.

It was so bad I could hardly walk more than 1/2 block.  I started by walking in a mall where there are benches to sit on when I was out of breath, took about 6 months before I could walk the whole mall without sitting down.

It is now 9 months since I started walking, I now go on a treadmill, for 30 minutes every day (4mph).  I time it so that it is about 1 hour after I take my Advair inhaler.  I have no problem whatsoever, the specialist said that if a person starts slowly and listen to their body there should be no problem.  He also said it is important to do it regularly, at least 4 times a week.

The more weight I lose the easier it is to breathe.
Maintaining Will metabolism dynamically adjust?? Mar 17 2007

I would wake up and take my temperature as I was feeling warm.  When I told the doctor he put me in a sleep clinic where they monitored me for 3 nights and my temperature went up.  When I woke up it would slowly go down to normal.

This is interesting, doctors have been trying to figure out for years why my temperature rises between 1 to 3 degrees when I sleep, have been tested every which way (including sleep clinics)  and there is nothing there.  In the day it is stable and normal.

I will have to keep track of how much I eat during the day to figure out if it is related to the amount of food I eat.

I needed someone else to tell me also.  Thank You.

Losing 100 lbs sure is something to be proud of.  I do have some questions, I was looking at your site and some of the days meals seem to be way below the recommended 1250 calories.

I thought that this number of calories per day was imperative to retain organ health.

I know how difficult it is to lose it (61 lbs now) and I am tempted at times to go below that number of calories, but I don't, I force myself to eat at least that number every day.  I also try to have all of the food groups as well.

Just wondering about the plan you are following, doesn't seem to meet the information for healthy weight loss that I have read here.

Can anyone clarify this for me.

My favorite old cookbook is a 1961 Amy Vanderbilt's Complete Cooking Guide.  Also have The Single Man's Guide to Making out in the Kitchen, that is from 1976,  Another I like is Encyclopedia of Canadian Cuisine by Madame Benoit from 1963.

I collect old cookbooks, and have many from various schools, church groups and womens' groups of various political parties.  The oldest I have is from 1902 and is laughable.  I have lent it to a journalist friend and don't remember the name.  One I also like is "The Pastors' Wives Cookbook".

I also collect recipes from the net and try them out

You can now understand why I need to lose weight, down 60 lbs and 50 to go.  Now I only take recipes that I know the caloric content of.  Not getting myself in this trap again for sure.
