| Health & Support | Does this happen to anyone else with IBS? | Jun 09 2008 19:56 (UTC) |

Not sure what the symptoms of IBS all are, I can't make it to a doctor unless I win the lottery. LOL. But I do know that for the past 6 or 7 months I've had horrible gas and usually have really bad diarrhea. Also my stomach has always 'talked' after I eat but it's much louder lately. I tend to tell people that the reason my belly is so big is because I have little army men in there and all the gurgling and blowing up sounds is them fighting a battle. LOL. It really does sound like grenades and bombs going off in my stomach! Oh, and for the past week or so I have to run to the bathroom usually within 15 minutes of eating anything. It's kind of inconvenient but I figure at least my system is working out haha. It keeps me from eating a lot in public too. LOL!! But it is being a pain in the butt.... no pun intended. I think it's mainly from the heat though. |

Original Post by mollymouser: Newbie joining! Hope that's ok. I like the quote. It never ceases to amaze me how people can complain and vent about things but they hardly ever decide to change the situation. I know it's hard to do, but it's the only way you can really make a difference I think.

Well speaking as a pagan AND being from the deep south, I can tell you that its' a VERY normal occurence to be approached and asked if I believe in God and have I found Jesus. This has happened everywhere from work to the grocery store to the Walmart parking lot. 99% of the time they get upset when I refuse their pamphlets or tell them I'm not interested. Just the other day I was sitting in the car at Kmart, waiting for someone to come out and minding my business. Well I have a tattoo of a pentagram inside a butterfly on my arm, and my arm was propped on the window. So the women parked beside of me come out and put their junk up... noticed my tattoo and took it upon themselves to come over to my truck and try to push pamphlets on me because not only am I going to 'burn in hell' but I've also been 'brainwashed by satan' and am trying to spread his evil heathen lies. Ummmmmm..... thanks. Why is it that so many Christians and other religions want me to let them have a right to preach all they want to, but the moment I mention paganism they fly into an uproar and forbid me to speak? In my opinion anyone who fears SO MUCH hearing another's beliefs is in fact scared of the foundation their own faith is built upon. I love comparative religions. I love discussing religion. I love studying religion. Nothing anyone can tell me will shake me to my core and make me lose my faith in my beliefs. If someone simply talking to you is posing a danger to your beliefs then ask yourself, are they really that strong to begin with? If you want to 'preach the gospel' of your beliefs then damnit be prepared to listen to my belief system as well. Tit for tat and all that. I am sorry that the little old lady attacked you at work. It's happened to me quite a bit and it always sucks. And whether she's lonely or not, it makes no excuse. I get lonely and I don't wonder up to people and ask them if we go outside and commune with the earth spirits while chanting or doing ritual. Come on now..... |

| Weight Loss | Buying a scale? | Dec 09 2007 21:25 (UTC) |
|
It really depends on how high you need it to read. For instance the weight group I'm in had to have a scale that went up to 400 lbs b/c I weigh over 350 where most scales stop. Digital scales are definitely the way to go, as they are accurate no matter when or where you use them.

er......... for those of you familiar with granola, is it true that it will reeeeally make you "go" to the potty? I'm wondering b/c I ate some granola yesterday and lets just say the earth moved last night. If this is a side effect of granola then I'm gonna have to buy me some and eat it often. lol. |

Ok I was gone from CC a loooooong time but am back now. My starting weight was 368.0, I lost down to 309.0 and then gained back up to probably the same starting weight. Right now I'm at 362.5 AGAIN and having more trouble this time losing than before. So I guess that makes me in the 200+ lbs to lose group eh? LOL. But here I am! Congrats to all of you who are doing so well, it is inspiring. I hope I can join you soon. Julie |

I wish I lived near you Medic with a sliding scale! Anyways, YESSS about the hump! OMG how I hate this damn thing! It's so embarrassing. Not that I'm the humpback of Notre Dame yet, but I feel that way too sometimes. I actually did extensive research trying to figure out why exactly I had it and found out that it's called a 'buffalo hump'. How.embarrassing.is.that. To have something on your body called a buffalo hump. As if I don't feel like a fat cow as it is. I mean come on! But yeah, it's common for women especially with PCOS and it's simply a fat deposit. Glorious! I have the hair growth too. My brother always picked at me when I was little about having a mustache and beard. I always thought he was playing but now I'm not so sure. lol. Maybe he was psychic? I tried plucking too but it was too painful and time consuming and I always missed some so I just shave it off now. It sucks to do it but what else is there to do really? I am so not one of those women who can walk around with a full mustache coming on and have no problems with it. lol. Oddly enough, I have a very thin "happy trail". Does anyone else have this or am I the only freak of nature? I find it kind of humorous actually and it makes me giggle to look at heh. But then again I am sort of an odd one..... Another thing I haven't seen anyone mention... do any of you with PCOS experience the acne? Like I get a few pimples on my face from time to time but not horribly. Still I'm too old for it. But I get what looks like pimples or bumps on my breasts a LOT and it bugs me. I mean it's not horrible either but it's enough to piss me off. Who wants bumpy boobies? Not me that's for sure. I also get those big painful bumps on the inside of my thighs, but I think that's more of a fat person thing than a PCOS thing. I'm imagining it's from the skin rubbing together and irritating itself. They are painful though and when you can pop them it's usually almost like a kernal type head. God this is so gross to talk about. I should shut up now. So yeah, just wondering if anyone else had the acne part with it.

I have PCOS as well and am always exhausted, which everyone also tells me that I have sleep apnea which is probably true. I can't afford to go to a doctor but I'm hoping to try and find a way to see someone eventually in a 'limited financial' type deal. I only make 120 bucks a week so doctor visits are kinda troublesome. I lost 60 lbs and some of the symptoms got much better. I am one of the "lucky" ones who have a heavy menstrual cycle ALL the time (I mean all the time) and it actually went away and got regular somewhat with the weight loss. It felt like not having to wear diapers anymore lol. But over the past year I've gained it back and am having a hard time getting it off again. The symptoms came back much worse this time and now I'm not even able to sleep in my bed, which sucks b/c I have brand new mattresses! GAH! And sleeping in the recliner is alright but I still feel tired all the time because I'm not getting any good deep sleep. Here's to hoping we all can get better in the new year. |

| Hey we are SO on the same page here! I came a good bit last year but things just got all chaotic and I let myself get swept up into it all. I'm not making excuses, I know that if I had really wanted to keep going I would have...... I just slacked off and got lazy. So I WAS down the most by 60 lbs but since last year have gained about 40 lbs back *sigh*. I've GOT to get back on track. I feel so disgusted, embarrassed and unhappy with myself. I wish I could just kick myself in the ass to be honest. Or give myself a knuckle sandwich to eat for once. hahaha. But it's time to start again. Spring is here and I want to look at the world with fresh eyes again too. Best of luck to us both and I know we can do it. We just have to keep our heads down, our mouths closed and make smart choices. :) Julie |

| Ok. So here I am again, feeling depressed that things have gotten out of hand. Before I gain back all of the weight that I've lost though, I know I need to get back on track. Last year some things got way out of hand... you know how personal things come up. Lots of chaos and turmoil and even though I know there's no good excuse, I let it get to me and stopped caring. So..... I know I'm not the only one this has happened to, but I do feel somewhat embarrassed to come back here again. Although I know that a lot of you can probably identify with the relapsing (though I HOPE you're all doing great). I hope to stick around longer this time and concentrate on not letting anything get in the way of my progress. Nice to see you all again btw. |

| Ok I saw this recipe on the Paula Dean show, and if you've ever heard of her you know she LOVES to cook real southern food, full of lard and butter and fat. lol. But this one recipe was pretty healthy and still tasty. I'd never tried asparagus but made this for one of our 'dinner dates' and everyone loved it. I did substitute "I can't believe it's not butter" for the margarine. It still tasted GREAT. 8 or 9 asparagus spears, depending on size 1/2 (16-ounce) package frozen phyllo dough sheets, thawed 1/4 cup butter, melted 1/4 cup finely grated Parmesan Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Snap off the tough ends of the asparagus. Unwrap the phyllo and cut the stack in half lengthwise. Reserve 1 stack for later use. Cover the phyllo with a damp towel to keep it from drying out. Take 1 sheet of phyllo and brush lightly with some melted butter. Sprinkle with some Parmesan. Place 2 to 3 asparagus spears on the short end of the sheet. Roll up, jelly-roll style. Place each piece, seam side down, on a baking sheet. Brush with more melted butter and sprinkle with more Parmesan. Repeat until all the asparagus spears are used up. Place baking sheet in oven and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. |

| Motivation | 100 lb to lose club: things you notice as you lose weight | Sep 11 2006 03:54 (UTC) |

| Well I WAS down about 30 lbs from where I'm at now, and when I WAS there I noticed that it was easier to sleep. I can still sleep on my back now (propped on pillows) but at my heaviest (still 30 lbs higher than what I am now) I was sleeping in a chair. Also the edema isn't as bad as it used to be, but was even better before. I'm looking forward to losing this 30 lbs again and then getting under 300 lbs. :) |

| Weight Loss | 100 to lose club: Thoughts on how to add variety to your eating ... | Sep 07 2006 21:37 (UTC) |
|
| Agreed with what everyone's saying. Also if you have other friends who are either trying to lose weight or are just simply supportive... try doing like we do and have 'dinner dates'. There's 3 of us in my little group, so we take turns each one cooking a main course while someone else fixes a dessert. We started it once a week and sometimes even do it twice a week (but really just depends on everyone's schedule). The only rules are: 1) It HAS to be healthy meals in controlled portions. 2) No matter what, everyone MUST try all the dishes. You don't have to eat it all, but you have to try it (only exception is food allergies.) We like to cook for each other and it gives us all a chance to try new things that we'd never eat on our own and also to pull out those recipes that we always 'wanted' to try but never did. It's been a lot of fun!!! :) Tonight is my night so I better get off of this thing and go start my squash! YAY! |

With the ACC pulling a tight second. If USC can't win (maybe in a few years.... I hope!!) then I'm definitely pulling for Auburn or LSU all the way. But I gotta give a shout out to the Clemson Tigers too. They are kicking butt and gotta love 'em! :) |

I so agree with what everyone is saying. Booths, rollercoaster rides, seat belts, finding clothes that fit! I'd also like to keep up with friends who are not big when doing simple things like walking around the zoo or on the beach. I'd love to wear a real bathing suit and not hide it under a tank top and shorts. Movie theater seats SUCK. I'd like to have room in one to wiggle comfortably. I'd like to go grocery shopping and NOT have people go out of their way to look in my cart to see what kinds of food I'm buying. I've actually had people stop me and tell me what NOT to buy or that I shouldn't eat so much food (why does everyone always think big people eat like an entire cow at one sitting??? I eat less proportionally than most of my friends). And lastly, (for now), I've never been to a dance or a prom. I skipped all of mine b/c #1- I was never asked by anyone and #2 - I'd have been the laughing stock of the thing. So I'd like to have a fancy dress and go out and learn to dance. :) |

| Ugh I HATE the water weight!! I had a huge problem with edema for a long time, and really that's what finally MADE me have to make some changes. It got to the point where I was having problems just using the restroom and being able to do it properly. I would come home from work and if I had to go, I had to go in that 15 minutes. B/c after sitting down for 15 minutes, I wasn't getting back up until the next morning to shower and go back to work. (I'm not embarrassed to say that because I know some of you understand. And for those who don't.... I'm glad that you don't! lol. It's not a pleasant thing.) Anyways, I still swell horribly some days in my legs and feet. Especially when I've been standing up a lot at work. I also have really bad circulation in my legs and some nerve damage. Sometimes I think my biggest fear is a blood clot, but at the same time..... at least that would be quick and painless. Isn't it sad that my biggest fears are blood clots and heart attacks and I'm just shy of turning 30? You would think that most people don't fear those things until old age. It's really upsetting sometimes to sit back and look at the big picture. *bleah* Good incentives for getting back on track! :) |

ARGH! I hope I can get to chat with you sometime about it, sounds like we share some interests so that would be sweet! bg & jayd - thanks so much for the welcomes!!! :) I appreciate it. Yeah, I most definitely know what you mean. The first weight support group I joined; I walked in the first day and there was this skinny woman talking about how hard it had been to lose all her weight bleah bleah. I was thinking WOW this woman musta been really struggling for a long time and lost a ton. Then she goes on to say how that 'horrible extra 20 pounds' was so hard on her and how she could hardly walk because of the stress on her knees bleah bleah. I was like WHAT? Excuse me????? I mean, I agree..... it is just as hard for some people to lose 10 lbs as it is for some others to lose 100. But they have NOTHING on us when it comes to the hardships that extra weight puts on a body. And it's been my experience that they often times think we're making the SH*T up to get sympathy. Umm..... no. I want to say to them, "Try toting around 300+ lbs on your joints and see how your back, knees, and feet feel." But you just gotta grin and bear it and walk on. Cuz no one said life was gonna be easy hey? LOL. Sorry, you all got me excited there. And I had no coffee! ;) |

I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you but really don't know what's going on yet. Julie PS...... Obsidyan, your weight loss pics are inspiring! Wow you're doing great!! 2 things I noticed though, #1 - I almost choked laughing when I saw the pic of your dog chewing the socks on the bed. Hehe It so reminds me of my dog and her wicked ways. #2 - I so want that drawing of Gimli on your wall. I collect LOTR and I must admit, I'm jealous! lol. |

If I think a *food* is off limit or I try to say I can't have something or desserts at a potluck or something... it kind of has a bad effect on my brain and I feel deprived and angry and rebellious and have a pity party and usually go home and eat later... like throw down the towel and start eating with glee ~ until my head finally pops up days later when i finally get a grip and the rational part of my brain kicks in and makes me feel guilty 10 times over...!!! I so agree with you on this one. I know that everyone's different, some ppl can cut things out completely. But for me, I've tried it and it just didn't work. So I've found success with this formula. It's like that saying, "You can't have your cake and eat it too." And I'm thinking... well why the hell would you have cake if you couldn't eat it? I mean come on...... just don't eat the entire thing. LOL. Anything in moderation is NOT a bad thing, you just have to learn control. And control, imo, is better than just ignoring it and pretending it doesn't exist. First time posting to this thread, but I'm new here anyway. My name is Julie, I'm from SC. When I started losing weight I was at 367, got down to 309.5, then went on vacation and a few other things led to me letting the ball drop.... so now I'm back up in the 345 area. Starting over again. So yep, well over 150 lbs to lose for me. I get weighed tomorrow morning, so we'll see *officially* what the weight is then. I'm hoping to meet some friends here, get some motivation, share some motivation (if I can), and help my BFF (womanofscorn) on her way as much as she's helping me. :) |
