The bad news is with all the attention you've been getting you've become vain and shallow.

I agree, it all depends on the instructor, they set the tone.  I've been lucky and have wonderful instructors.

I started yoga with YOGA PRACTICE FOR BEGINNERS  with instructor PATRICIAL WALDEN by yoga journal/gaiam.  It's still my favourite though I have tons more.  All my yoga DVDs are from gaiam, i've rented others but they dont seem to measure up to the gaiam series.

Plume, congrats on finding yoga!   I agree with yoga monkey and yogajournal is a fantastic site.

It's exciting to see more people on this site who understand how awesome yoga is.  I'm trying to get ashtanga included in the activity list since it burns so many more calories than hatha.

if anyone else feels the same way please drop a line at

Thank you mspriff, yes it has motivated me to be more mindful with my eating and to do Yoga daily.

It feels like my shoulders have grown way wider and I can carry alot more stress than I used to and at the same time I am calmer and more have more stamina.

I know alot of it has to do with journaling, pampering myself and really checking in with my inner self, an aspect of me that was often ignored and medicated with food before.

Well, despite going through a mega stressful time, lots of deadlines to meet I lost 1lb despite getting myself to accept just maintaining while I go through this.  It's all thanks to the advice I was given and for which I am so thankful!

Love this post!

I used to! when i was in the 180s I turned alot of heads, so even though I didnt really think I was hot, men's actions told me other wise.  Now I've gone from 245 to 235 and I'm not turning heads anymore but that's just fine with me because fat or not I AM ME : )
Motivation Detox/cleansing Aug 13 2006

It would be good to remove animal based foods, wheat and sugar from your diet a few days prior as this will start a gentle detox, this way you won't feel quite so sick when you start the "cleansing system pills".  It will also make that cleanse that much more effective because it will be able to work on toxins stored up in your fat cells and organs more efficiently.

Good luck :)

Well, it's 19 days after writing this thread and I'm at 235.  I am going through a stressful/busy time which normally would have driven me to eat loads of sweet oooeeey goooeeey treats and salty deep fried food.

I've been doing the journaling, food logging, water drinking, HALT and so many of the wonderful tips I've gotten (see post#13).... the result being I have not gained a single pound!  Now that is saying something!  It's been a bit of a struggle, gets a little easier most days and it is SO WORTH IT!

Howdy and welcome I know exactly how you feel because I felt that way when I started here too.  And much like you, I've struggled with losing and gaining.  I got alot of great advice and tips from memebers of calorie count and ix always has great advice and info too.

I put it all together on one page.

Something I had realised a few years ago is that almost every religion has some form of cleansing/fasting:

  • Buddhists
  • Catholics, at Lent
  • Hindus
  • Muslems
  • Orthodox Catholic Greeks
Could they all be wrong?

here are some more links about detoxing:

p.s

i dont always put much credance in research done by manufacturers...since there can be a conflict of interests..namely profit versus honesty.  I prefer research done by the medical and science fields that are not for profit....it isnt neccessarily better, but one has to have a bit of faith...and do some research :P
