I don't know about the kind on a stick, but you could probably buy some of that smuckers sugar free caramel sundae syrup and drizzle over apple slices.
There's also that Walden Farms calorie free caramel dip, but some people hate everything by Walden Farms, though I don't mind the calorie free bacon ranch dressing too much. Never tried the caramel dip. |

If it's only once a week and you don't go way over your maintenance calories for the day, then I say enjoy yourself. Some people even encourage going over your weight loss calorie level once a week to keep your metabolism from slowing down.
As long as it's not something like 2,000 calories worth of booze, which I used to do |

Hmm, no yellow dot showed up on this thread after you replied. Maybe it just means you haven't read the thread at all, and then it never comes back. I'm not sure now, LOL |

I don't know why it's considered a new item, my local Subway has had it for a while. I love it and it is spicy and "buffalo-wingy". Just gotta be careful, it is mighty tasty with the ranch dressing on it but that makes it have a lot more fat and calories. |

Well Stevia has been in wide use in Japan for 30 years now. With the rat studies, I have to wonder what is considered a "Large amount of a derivative of stevioside" and "large doses of stevioside". For instance, what if the equivalent amount in humans would equal something like drinking 150 stevia sweetened beverages everyday? It would also be interesting to find out who funded the studies.
Here's another article http://articles.latimes.com/2008/aug/25/healt h/he-nutrition25
A recent study funded by Cargill and Coca Cola found no adverse reproductive effects with dosages equivalent to a 150 lb person drinking 1,000 8oz servings of a stevia sweetened beverage a day. Also no general effects on the body with equivalent 2,000 8 oz servings per day. http://npicenter.com/anm/templates/newsATemp. aspx?articleid=21248&zoneid=26 |

If it's a once in a while thing for a special occasion, I say enjoy it. Eat anything you want from the buffet and eat until you are satisfied (not STUFFED and SICK like I used to do at buffet places
Eat healthy the rest of the day, and enjoy yourself at the buffet. There's nothing wrong with eating unhealthy and eating too many calories at one meal every once in a while. As long as it's only occasionally and you stick to your meal plan the rest of the time, I think it is good for you to splurge every once in a while. |

Marinehead,
Viking, 2100 calories may be a good level. At higher weights, the height/weight/age method of calculating calorie needs can vastly over estimate how much you should eat. There is a method that calculates based on body fat percentage that is much more accurate but you'd have to know your body fat % to do that.
I've read that recipe before (yes, I get HG emails even though I'm a "hungry guy" not a "hungry girl). I've never tried it, but I do like cauliflower so I guess I really should check it out. Tracy, Hey, I live in MD too! I like your sn, I really like the chowder cartoon. I also checked out some of your lolcats, some pretty good ones
I hope everyone has had a good day and will have a fun weekend, I have to work this weekend and is is supposed to be so nice, mid to upper 50's both Saturday and Sunday! |

Sorry, I'm a little late, have been busy with SB activities and forgot to post my Feb 1 weigh in. Feb 1st weight: 350 That's up over my lowest for Jan, stupid cold I've been fighting has made me ravenous for about a week, but I'm feeling better and less hungry now. Still, an 8 lb loss equals about 2 lbs per week, which is supposedly a healthy rate, though I have also heard that 1% of your body weight is fine too.
I'm sure you are all tired of me talking about disc golf by now, but I went out on Saturday. Yes, it was cold, and we had a snow/ice storm earlier this week. So the course was covered in snow topped with ice. I fell many times. I even slid down a (HUGE) hill at one point right on my behind after slipping. Needless to say, I have quite a few bruises on my bum and my knees. Definitely not an activity to do in the snow!!! |

Glenn,
I'm with you on the smoking thing. I started when I was 17 and wised up enough to quit when I was 21. I didn't find quitting hard at all, once I made up my mind to do it, it was easy. Just don't smoke anymore cigarettes. Losing weight is much harder. You can't just not eat, you have to eat the right amount. It's like telling a smoker that you can smoke just 4 cigarettes a day or telling an alcoholic that you must drink, but only 2 per day. You can't just "cold turkey" with food, which for me, makes it much harder.
Also, any importance in "viking" in your screen name? I didn't know if you were of nordic ancestry or perhaps just a taste in music, I love me some Manowar! |

I love the "Light Swiss" I think it's called Laughing Cow, so good, it's almost too good to be just 30 calories per wedge. I don't really like swiss cheese, and the laughing cow stuff doesn't really taste like swiss, but it is very good. Two wedges of lauging cow and a small granny smith apple, snack made in heaven! If you can't find it in the normal cheese sections of the store, look around the bakery breads, apparently it doesn't require refrigeration until you actually open the little round container, so sometimes it's sitting out.
I did end up going disc golfing again on Friday, sore arm and chest muscles, but surprisingly no soreness in my legs, I have a fairly strong lower body already, 1,000 lb leg presses at the gym - bah, that all you got? I did end up getting sick over the weekend so I haven't been doing too much activity outside of working. There is a snowstorm on the way, so I guess I will get some shoveling as activity, then hopefully Sunday it will be nice enough to travel to an 18 hole disc golf course, even more hilly and steep than the 9 hole one, I hope I can make it the whole way!
I hope everyone is having a good start to this week. My weight loss stalled in the past few days, but at least I didn't gain over the weekend, probably have the cold to thank for that. Oh, and welcome to the group, historicalidentity! |

Wow, I am exhausted! My bag and set of discs for disc golf came yesterday, so today I headed out to a nearby 9-hole course with a friend before work. We played the full 9 holes first. Luckily it is winter and the ice skating pond is frozen over, or I would have lost 2 of my discs to the water hazard. After we finished that, we practiced at hole 1 several times before we left. It was easily a total of 4 or more miles of walking. And it wasn’t just flat ground, it was like they purposely had one hole going uphill, then down hill on the next one, then back up! They weren’t little hills either, they were steep. From the tee on hole 2 to the basket, it was a good 30-foot rise in elevation in about 100 feet away. My legs were on fire carrying my big behind up the hill, and I went slow, but I made it up. Hole 7 was much better, it went from the top of the hill back down to the bottom, a much easier walk, lol. At least I had a nice reward for the activity, I am now officially closer to 300 than I am to 400 lbs! Weighed in at 347 lbs, which is nice because I was stuck for a while right at 358, but it seems like it all came off at once instead of a little every week. All in all, the disc golf was a lot of fun, and it was exercise to boot. I plan on heading out again tomorrow as long as I can still walk, haha. I used to go bowling, which was at least some activity, but it always involved having a few beers while there, so that negated any benefit. At least with the disc golf, it’s outside with no bar temptation, and at $7.50 per disc, it’s easy on the budget. All I know is that after the disc golf, and now work until midnight, I’ll be asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow when I get home tonight!

Has anyone tried the new "Angry Whopper" from BK? Basically it's a whopper with pepper jack cheese, "angry sauce," "angry onions," and jalapeno peppers. I decided to have a value meal as one of my cheat meals (I do 2-3 cheat meals per week as opposed to 1 all out cheat day). When I was finished, I was in fact angry. It wasn't very spicy at all, and I know that it was chock full of fat and calories. The fries were crappy, I think the oil must have been old because they had an off taste. I could have had something much better for my cheat meal than that junk. The dinner I had last night was much more tasty, and much healthier to boot, I'd choose it over the angry whopper any day. A nice piece of salmon seasoned with old bay and broiled with one of those microwaveable brown rice cups and some steamed broccoli. I still don't know what dinner will be tonight, I usually eat dinner at 1-2 am because of my work / school schedule has me sleeping from 6 am - 2 pm. I also just ordered some discs to try out a sport my friends have been raving about, disc golf. It seems like a fun time, while getting out a getting some excercise as well. We'll see how it goes. |

Original Post by amybeth34: Are you after WEIGHT loss or FAT loss? It is impossible to lose 18lbs of fat in 4 days without surgery. You don't even need a college education to do the simple math 3500 calories in 1 lb of fat, so 3500 * 18 = 63,000 calorie deficit 63,000 / 4 = 15,750
So, you would have to burn 15,750 calories MORE per day than you take in to lose 18 lbs of fat in 4 days (actually I think there is a limit to how much fat your body can actually burn in one day no matter how much of a deficit you have, but I don't know the nubmer).
Now, to lose 18 lbs of water weight in 4 days, coupled with modest loss of lean tissue (muscle), now that is certainly possible and certainly something that you do not want to do.

Sun, what kind of crabs? I live in MD so I grew up eating blue crab all season long, though I haven't had any in a while. SOOOO good, cooked with plenty of Old Bay, though with that much Old Bay it hurts LIKE HELL if you poke yourself on one of the spines!
I also read your profile, so you watch [as], are agnostic, and a Trek fan. There need to be more women like you in the world, LOL! |

LOL, I just remembered one of my favorite "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" episodes, 'Diet', where Meatwad tries to get in shape.
Or when he is lifting weights with those colored dumbells later in the episode and he gets tired of the heavier ones...
LOL, totally reminds me of myself when exercising, but I am getting better. |

The 8 pounds in the first week was probably water weight. 3 lbs a week is a little high according to the 2 lb a week guidline, but I have also heard 1% of your weight, so depending on your weight, that could be ok. |

How much protein are you getting? Protein and high fiber foods keep you full. For instance, your breakfast of fruit and oatmeal is good on the fiber front, but has hardly any protein. Maybe add in some egg whites or egg beaters or some low fat meat like canadian bacon. |

I think your skin will go back a little more, give it some more time to catch up and it will hopefully get a little better. This is something that I worry about too. I'm a guy, but still, I want to eventually have a beach body and I worry about loose skin. I've got pretty much no butt lol, it's all in a big ol' belly for me, so I know I will have loose skin too. |

Just an idea, but if you don't like "breakfast" foods, there is no rule that says you HAVE to have eggs or cereal or oatmeal. Chicken breast and broccoli (reheated from the night before) is just as good. As for me, I love the new eggbeaters with yolk (40 cals per serving). I use a whole cup of it and make an omlette, it's the same size as 4 eggs but only 160 calories + the small amount of calories in the vegetables and spritz of Pam, and have a small serving of oatmeal for about 350 calories, and I am good to go for a while. |

I'm male, 24, 6', and about twice your weight, and yes, mine is mostly in my waist area as well.
There really is no way to "Spot Reduce",ie lose weight/inches from one particular area. There are a lot of books and products promising that you will lose belly fat, but they are just marketing ploys. Your body will lose weight from wherever it wants. You can do ab exercises, but that doesn't mean that is where you will lose the weight. Kind of a PITA really, but that's how it goes unfortunately. |

I don't want to sound like a sales person, but I really like Tom Venuto's Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle, he lays out what you need to do and how to burn fat while keeping your musclulature in easy to understand terms, and unlike some other books, he does not say you need to buy product x or suppliment y (eg Body For Life's pitching of Myoplex nutrition shakes). Healthy food, and the only "suppliments" he recomends really is fish oil and a multivitamin.
Small lean steak with say some asparagus and a baked potato (don't smother it in butter or sour cream!) Small chicken breast with some broccoli and some brown rice
And don't worry about 1 or 2 meals a week, so called "cheat" meals where you have whatever you want, like chicken cheese steak. Eating over your daily calories won't kill your diet as long as it's not every day, and can actually help keep your metabolism running higher.

Norma Jean, I joined CC almost 2.5 years ago 7/06. I was at 260lbs and I wanted to lose 60lbs to be 200 even. Here it is 2009 and I am 360lbs. Instead of losing the 60 I wanted to, I instead gained 100! There's nothing I can do about it. It's done, I gained the weight. The only thing I can do is go forward and lose the 160lbs I need to drop to get to my goal. Don't dwell on past missteps, learn from them and move forward. You'll get there! Being here is a great first step forward. Don't beat yourself up! |
