What are you doing for the underarms? I have the same problem and want to start working on that area too. |

| Lady o-my mom also has difficulties with osteoprosis-just another reason for me to exercise and quit smoking as both help with that process. I just finished my 12 minutes on the cardio salsa and I kept up with the moves! Course this dancin is all private right now as I'm thinkin it probably looked a little funny but sure felt good to do it. Also did my 20 wall pushups and walked Max for 10 minutes. I love this site!! | |||

| I tried my cardio salsa video Sat-was able to keep up with it for about 10 minutes. In light of the new challenge, here's what I'm going to do: Mon, Wed, Fri-I will do 10-15 min of the cardio salsa-I really like the dance moves and this thing kicks my butt and abs. Tue, Thur, Sat-I will walk 20 min (may have to use the hotel treadmill as it is really hot here even in the early mornings (So TX). Also will do 20 wall push-ups daily. ok, I'm off to do salsa-adios ps-down to 7 cigarettes and then it's time to quit. Really excited, nervous, etc. about doing this but really want to be more healthy! |

| Good morning, United, thanks so much. I'm somewhat anxious about the quitting but am also determined to do so. I've tried other methods in the past but am now going to go cold turkey (my sister did this almost 2 years ago and is doing wonderfully). Having gone with other methods, I think probably this will be the way that I need to do it also. I have water in hand, straws to chew on and lots of sewing projects to work on. My dh is also going to quit (we've both been talking about it for a couple of years). My biggest concern is the potential weight gain with quitting but am ramping up my exercise time to help with that. I'm down to a pack and 1/2 now and when these are gone, it's bye bye smoking! |

| Happy Saturday!
Welcome to all the newbies (from a 1 day newbie!) Good morning all, (I know technically it's still barely morning but I slept in this morning...... Anyway, I'm dressed and ready for my walk. Dh is working this morning so am thinking to get out a salsa video that I got a couple of months ago. I was going to look at it "tomorrow", well, I think tomorrow is here-lol ;) Anyway, that's what I'm going to do to start my day off right. Hey, writestuff, keep in mind it's never too early to drink-it's five o' clock somewhere.......:) |

| Congrats OBS!!! o1darcie1o-I'm kinda worried about the quitting smoking thing and the weight thing all at the same time but am just thinkin if I'm going to get healthy, I'm going to get healthy. Smoking is the least healthy thing I do. My plan is to drink lots of water to flush out the cravings, carry a straw for the hand to mouth gratification and do lots of quilting or crocheting which both require use of both my hands, not leaving me a hand to smoke with. |

| This is really cool. I love this but also hate this as I have the hardest time when the focus is on me (does anyone else have this problem?) I find that if I set goals and complete those goals, my self confidence goes up (although the weight loss/smoking goals have not been completed at this point). I try to get up every morning, take a shower, dress for the day and wear makeup every day. I'm a semi-retired RN currently traveling with my husband and I tried to make a promise to myself that I would not just slob around during the day while he's working. I am creative-I love to take things from scratch and build them into something beautiful-anything from quilts, afgans, concrete birdbaths, wedding invitations, homemade creations (kahlua, pepper sauce, jellies, jams, vanilla), desigining homes, etc. I am a good daughter, wife, sister, mother, nana, and friend. I am great at supporting my friends and families and have started trying to imagine that I am one of them and what would I say to them to boost their self esteem? I think I am going to journal some of this today so I will have a list of things I need to say to me each morning. I will also be trying that mirror thing! I am goofy at times (ask my family)-love to laugh and smile and make them laugh even in public (You'll never see those people ever again!) There's an old saying "act as if, and then it will become" that I am going to make my mantra Today, I will act as if I am beautiful, act as if I am healthy and fit and know that one day it will become. |

| Oh boy........isn't that funny-I feel like I'm getting ready to go on the down portion of that roller coaster ride....... Yes, I can give this a try-I started on Wednesday walking for 15 minutes AFTER the Max stop:)-he has short legs like I do, but is only 5 months, so has a lot of energy and loves to be outside for any reason. We've been working on the leash training, so he will walk with me and keep up. Sooooo, 15 minutes a day x4.....time to walk before it gets too hot here (currently in South Tx). Thanks! |

I'm 4'11 1/2" (don't you love how short people always add those 1/2 and 3/4" on......... Working on that healthy part-the one thing I know I can do is walk..... Started this week walking Max (my 5lb yorkie) for 15-20 minutes a day. |

| Hi, I would like to join this group. Reading your stories is giving me the courage to share my own: I have been overweight most of my life with a series of ups and downs that make a roller coaster look like a baby buggy ride. I am currently at 210 (last time I weighed at home) with the need to lose approx 60-100 lbs. I half-a**ed started trying to lose some weight last year and actually lost about 30 lbs only to add about 19 more back on. At 50, I'm not sure I'll ever be a skinny minny at 105-110, but really just want to be more fit and healthy. I recently had a sciatic nerve injury so am very motivated by the memory of the pain. I found this site while looking for a calorie counter and have been lurking for a couple of weeks now finding a lot of great people and information to help me with my goal. I have the hardest time with staying motivated and am coming to realize what a foodaholic I really am. My husband is always telling me it is just a matter of will power but I never seem to find any of that kind of power. If the food is around, I'm going to eat it no matter how many times I tell myself that this time will be different. I am learning not to keep things around that will tempt me to be bad and to keep things in stock that are more healthy for me to indulge in. I am also trying to do this while living in hotels as we are on the road most of the time. In tune with the being more fit and healthy, I am also getting ready to quit smoking after a 35 year habit. I think it is just time to begin the second half of my life being the person that I am meant to be, not the one that is crippled and being held back by my poor choices. Shew........that was a mouthful! Anyway, I'm ready to kick it up a notch so can I join this safe warm fuzzy place? I'm really good with a bucket if the boat gets a hole in it:) |

| I don't know if there is a YMCA center in your area but that might be an idea. My sister joined the one in her neighborhood-she has an 8 year old son and two teenage daughters. Her husband is an IT manager and works late so she and the kids go to the Y. She is in water aerobics 3x weekly and weight training classes 3x weekly. My nephew goes with her-he climbs the rock wall and is signing up for a Tae Bo class. He loves to go swimming after her aerobics class. I went as a guest-there are people of all ages (along with their kids) including couples. On our way to the pool, there was an aerobic class, people on the weights, kids doing Tae Bo, the water aerobic class we were doing-it was totally amazing! | |||

| Weight Loss | how do you get your veggies in? | Jul 13 2006 15:30 (UTC) |

| When my kids were little, I used to put things like shredded carrots/zucchini/squash in chili and spaghetti. They never, ever knew! I love to cook stir-fry veggies with lean chicken/port and use a bit of chili oil-yum. Also one of our favs at home is to cook chicken, then add chunks of zucchini, yellow squash, fresh mushrooms, purple onion, green, yellow and red pepper with whatever seasoning I have on hand (usually fresh garlic, maybe some oregano or basil, sometimes a seasoning mix like Tony Chachere's or the greek seasoning). When all are to the desired texture (I like them a little crunchy), toss with some whole wheat pasta and parmesan cheese. Add a salad and taa daa......lots of veggies in one sitting. |

| I loved the story......I can really relate to the temptation part as choc chip cookie dough is one of my all time favs also. Your goals are awesome! I really have a hard time with the portion control. My answer for me right now is to eat out places that can support this for me. The two I have found so far are Applebee's and Subway. Applebee's has a Weight Watchers section on their menu that rocks! I had the grilled talapia with tomato/black bean salsa tonight-like 310 calories and maybe 6 gms of fat-it was really good and served with rice and steamed mixed veggies. Subway with their 7 under 6 (gms of fat) sandwiches and a couple of salads that fall in this category. I hope you have a really great time with your family. |

| Weight Loss | So what's everyone's plan of action? | Jul 12 2006 04:43 (UTC) |

| My goal is to be healthy more than anything else. I figure if I'm eating healthy food and increase my activity, the weight will come off. I have done a number of yo-yo diets but have in the past few months really come to the realization that I am a food-a-holic. I like to blame other people for my food issues, but the reality is it's all me!! After a week in bed for a pinched siatic nerve, I know that I can not go through that pain again and think it is much less likely if I lose the weight and do the activity needed to strengthen my body. I am drinking 60-80 oz water daily and will eventually work up to 100 oz. I am eating breakfast every day. We travel and stay in hotels (alot) so I currently am eating a lot of Subway (because it's easy) to try and get my veggies in. I am also eating fruit as a snack vs something with carbs. My calorie range has been 1400-1700 so far. I am logging all my food and activity-haven't started with the journal yet, but think that may be key. I am walking Max (my Yorkie) around the hotel when I take him out vs just out the door and back. I am going to start with back stretches this week and increase the walking time day by day. One meal on the weekend, I will eat what I want to reduce the cravings. And, I will continue to come here to read the great tips/motivation from the people that have gone before me. |

| Good morning, I just found this site yesterday and was wondering if I can join in your group. I am currently weighing in at 210 and have 98.6(?) lbs to lose to reach the system goal of 111.4-I don't think I'll ever be this small again but am just aiming to be healthier and more active. I'm 4'11" with a small frame although there is not much small about me right now except my feet and my dog-lol. I think I'm on to something here with the shared experiences, advice, support-I read posts most of the day yesterday which encouraged me to walk Max a little longer yesterday. I am 50 and ready to spend the next half of my life out of the obesity range. I'm the oldest of 8, everyone in my family has started (with some sucess) trying to lose weight because of the genetic issues (heart disease, diabetes, etc). I have a husband who is wonderful in many ways, who is so resistent to me losing the weight that he does little things to sabatage my plan (i.e. bringing me a large TCBY last night when I request a small one). I am making the commitment to being a smaller me (threw 1/2 of the large down the toilet) and taking responsibility for my body and what goes into it! Anyway, if it's not too late to join in, I'd love to join you? |

| My husband makes the best baked fries! Here's what he does: Wash and cut potatoes in wedges (approx 4-6 per potato depending on type and size of potato) Spray cookie sheet with no-stick spray-place potatoes on pan and spray them lightly also. Sprinkle them with greek seasoning. Bake in 400 oven for about 15-20 minutes. We eat them with low or no fat sourcream. Yummy!! |
