Increase your mileage by no more than 10%, so next week do maybe 16.5 miles, then 18, etc.  And take one day off per week atleast to rest your body. You'll get faster! :)

It's genetic too, the ab definition thing. Some people can't get a six-pack no matter how hard they try!

alright guys, I'm about to go to a cross country bonfire tonight. Fudge, smore's, cookies galore but I pledge to not eat any of it since I already had my dessert for the day! This is to hold me accountable!

yes, food is fuel! It's so true, even though I give in to "peer pressure" often! Today is going well so far, good fuel: oatmeal and homemade applesauce and skim milk for bfast!

Ugh, guys I just had two really bad days in a row. Like 1000 calories over my expenditure each day! It's terrible because it even affected my running today...since my stomach hurt from eating junk before my workout, I didn't run as much as I had planned! I keep flipping between "I have to watch what and how much I eat so I fuel my body properly for running" and "I'm a runner...I can eat what I want!" Do you guys ever start thinking something like that? I'm getting rid of the junk food in my room. So...hopefully tomorrow will be better! :)
P.S. Isn't it weird that the analysis gave me a B for those days?

Hey Brigid... actually I think having those 2 hours devoted to cross country practice everyday (well, Monday through Thurs. for us) helps me manage my time better. My classes are fairly easy this semester, so it's not too hard at all yet! If you're used to having practice every day in high school it shouldn't be that much different I'd say. I am contemplating not being on the team next year, but for a different reason: I'm more of an individual runner!

gscott: I read in runnersworld or something that training for a marathon and losing weight are hard to do at the same time because they have such different goals. I forget their reasoning, but it sounds feasible to me! Good luck! Oh, and why 65% carbs? For easy energy for all the running you're doing? Hmm...I ought to pay more attention to how big a percentage my carbs are. Here's my analysis for one month during the summer:
Fat - 23.1% (1,377 grams)
Protein - 20.1% (2,707 grams)
Carbohydrates - 56.8% (7,632 grams)
What do you think? Should I as a runner eat more carbs?

Rhythmic gymnast...very cool! When I was little I loved to watch them in the Olympics! So how do you manage to stay focused throughout the day, eating with non-gymnasts (or people not into martial arts)? Man, it's hard when my friends get coffee cake and cappuccinos for breakfast or cookies and ice cream with dinner! I know that I will perform better if I put good stuff in my body, but...

demogirl, you said you're an elite athlete... I'm a college runner, so I'm interested in how this kind of diet is beneficial for performance. Can you give me more details? I'm always looking for ways to improve my performance!

The maple and brown sugar one smells divine! And tastes wonderful too! But the plain (non-flavored) oatmeal packets are 40-60 calories less, and taste just as good if you add cinnamon and applesauce. I'd say I have oatmeal probably 5 or 6 times a week! mmmmm...

My cafeteria has actually a very nice selection of healthy foods: make-your-own-wrap, soy milk, veggie line, wheat bread/bagels... but maybe it's the over-stimulation. So much food! So many different foods! Some of my friends have been eating a lot and a lot of junk food, so it's hard to stay healthy around them when they don't seem to be gaining weight. I might take the opposite advice as to keeping healthy food in my dorm room... if I don't have any food in my room, I can't eat it, right? If I'm really that hungry, I can just go over to the cafeteria cuz it's open a lot. Force me to rethink my hunger. Maybe I'll just keep a few things for evenings tho...

Potteryhoney, the lettuce trick seems like a good plan... our salad bar is amazing too... maybe I'll start getting a big salad (mainly lettuce with low calorie stuff on it like onions or carrots) right away. Oooo... a glass of water too! Yay, I'm so motivated now!

Today is not going so well; I got a nice healthy breakfast at the cafeteria, a decent but too big lunch at the cafeteria,  but then I had a cappucino and hot chocolate and m&m's and peanut butter! Phew. But you know what helped me? I logged what I plan to eat the rest of the day, and it ended up being like a B+. That'll stop me from bingeing further, eh?

and hi chrissy! welcome! I'll be your friend. :)

I agree, but we have to get in our heads that it certainly isn't free if we gain weight from it! Yesterday was bad; I ate spoonfuls of peanutbutter...yup the peanutbutter I just said I should get rid of! So right now, I'm throwing it out! Yay!!
Weight Loss Goofy Question - Crystal Light as water? Sep 05 2006

mmm... I love crystal light. Drinking it only occasionally is definitely as good as water. I heard that the fake sweetener some drinks use make you eat more, but I can't confirm that. But as long as it gets you drinking, kudos!

So how's everyone doing? Some of us probably have been at school for atleast a week (me: 3 weeks) so we have had time to try watching our weights at college. As for me, I was good in that I didn't eat ice cream every time an organization gave it out for free (seriously several times a day for a week!), but I stayed in the cafeteria, planning to study after eating, and ended up eating the whole time instead. The exercising part I have no trouble with (I'm in cross country) but that just means I can't be eating junk. So my new challenge is..... not bingeing on the huge jar of peanutbutter I keep in my room to keep my protein up! That's me, so now you tell us how we can support you this week!

yeah, those south beach bars are perfect. I use them for post-run recovery food because the carbs and protein are in a 4:1 ratio which is just what I need.

I'm a Christian and Christ gives me that underlying peace that is so reassuring!! He's so a part of my life that it's hard to explain how my faith in Jesus has helps me with my food and weight issues... but now you've given me something to think and pray about so I'll get back to you!

Hey guys! So many ppl have warned me about the freshman 15 that I'm starting to think I should worry too even though I run cross country! haha So these last 3 weeks I've tracked my calories to learn about what I eat. This should be good for a bit of accountability, eh? Ok, so me:

5'2" and muscular

currently: 116.5 lbs, 14.5% body fat

goal: 115 lbs, 12% body fat
