Wow! Thanks for all of the advice! I didn't realize there was a tea to help you sleep! The Val & Hops I bought contains:
The brand is NUTRILITE, all organic vitamins. I use other vitamins from the company so I trust that these will work as well!! I bought the Val & Hops here: http://bit.ly/4gAITk (if anyone has feedback or has tried this kind before) I should get them in the mail by the end of this week. I tried Benadryl last night and it seemed to help. It made me so drowsy, however, that it was hard to get out of bed this morning and I was kinda sleepy all day. Not sure if that was the Benadryl or staying up later than usual. Who knows? I usually work out mid-afternoon or evening (between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.). I skipped my workout today because I was so sleepy feeling. Hopefully I'll return to normal soon. Thanks for all of the advice. I appreciate it! |

Nope all I take are vitamins. I don't like taking prescription drugs and I can't take Tylenol --- but maybe I'll try the Benedryl until the natural supplement I ordered comes in the mail. Thanks *Katesorad. My friend said the Valerian & Hops (spelling?) will induce sleep because it includes natural root grass and lemon balm. Apparently it's used in a lot of Asian counties as a natural sleep aid. *Cygnet1975, I don't take any appetite suppressants or water pills. Sometimes I do have issues when I'm hungry but lately hunger or no hunger, I've been WIDE AWAKE when I normally sleep...like now. |

EDAMAME (aka Soybeans). Trader Joe's sells a bag frozen, that could last through a whole week of snacking, for under $2! Buy the salted ones. All kinds are full of protein and low in cals. The only thing you have to do is defrost them and you can eat them cold or warmed up. Hope that helps!

Hey YuYu3, How much you want to study in law school is your choice! Some of my classmates studied religiously everyday and did really well. Some studied when they felt like it and did well. Some studied a lot and still didn't do well. I studied everday after class my first semester of law school. By my 3L year I studied about once a week and my grades actually improved! Law school is all a mental game of confidence. May I suggest one thing? Go on amazon.com or half.com and buy some used PMBR CDs. I listen to the CDs now for bar exam preparation and I wish someone had told me how helpful they would have been my 1L year. You can find a set of all your first year topics (Con Law, Torts, Crim Law, Contracts, Civ Pro) for around $50 online.
HOpe that helps! |

"Law school weight" isn't a sure thing. Don't be scared! My 1L year a male classmate gained almost 20 pounds in one year. On the other hand, my female classmate lost 50 pounds our 1L year. She did WeightWatchers and worked out 45 minutes 5 times a week. I think weight gain, in general, depends on what you eat on a regular basis and how active you are as well as your stress levels and the amount of sleep you get. My 1L year, I went from walking at 30 minutes/day, working out regularly and getting 8ish hours of sleep a night to driving every day, working out when I could find the time and getting 6-7 hours of sleep/night (or less). I also ate FREE pizza 2-3 times a week as well as anything FREE from the Student Bar Association (beer, meatballs, chips, soda) which is why I gained so much weight over the 3 years. Pair that with stress and it's bound to make you gain weight. Good luck with 1L year! You can do it! |

I agree with all of the advice. When I try to make sure I've eaten enough daily calories, especially on days when I'm meeting with my trainer or when I'm doing cardio, I pop a 100-calorie bar in my mouth. See bars at: http://cedwards30.qhealthzone.com/search/defa ult.aspx?Ntt=caramel%20snack
They come in tasty flavors like caramel creme and fudge brownie but only 2.5 g of fat. Yum. :) |

According to my BMI, I'm overweight. I hide my weight very well and a lot of my friends tell me "you're fine". But my body knows how much I weigh when I huff and puff after walking up two flights of stairs, I feel sluggish and my clothes size went up 4 sizes.
Keep discussing. It's important to talk about this kinda stuff! |

| I just started Slim in 6 this week-- I love it! I'm still in the early stages but already I've started using the resistence band when I'm watching tv at night. My body feels great. I can't wait to see how I'll look after 6 weeks! | |||

| One more thing-- Drinking is about living in the moment. Two years after "living in the moment" I gained 30 pounds not to mention a whole lot of regrets and mistakes. All the drinking made me stay up late, eat late and double my calorie intake. Bad. Drink in moderation! | |||

| When I made my switch from undergrad party girl to professional law student, it didn't go so well. I was doing a lot of DRINKING ALONE which is really bad...not to mention all of the social drinking (day and night) with all my law school buddies. Luckily, I've toned down my drinking A LOT.
One of my favorite books is: Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp -- I suggest anyone dealing with alcohol/addictions of any kind (including food) read it! It's an autobiography by a woman who was an alcoholic for nearly 20 years. One of the best parts of the book is when she says something along the lines of: "Finally I realized that maybe I don't drink because I'm unhappy; Maybe I'm unhappy because I drink" That really put a lot of things into perspective for me. Hope that helps! |

| Hmmm...I wonder if that has some truth to it. Since I've gained weight I haven't felt much like dating material. But maybe that's more of a mental roadblock than an actual one...or maybe we're just trying to date the wrong guys!
About four years ago I got motivated to lose weight. I lost about 10 pounds and looked fabulous! A month later, I started dating my first boyfriend ever (and my most decent one). After we broke up, I gradually, then suddently, started putting on the pounds. I've had other boyfriends since, but not any decent ones. Sometimes I wonder if this is a weight issue or a feeling of self-worth issue. Maybe a little bit of both? |

| Weight Loss | stop drinking that diet pop | Aug 02 2007 16:16 (UTC) |

| My father always tells me, "That diet soda is going to kill you". Everytime I drink diet soda I think "I know this is bad for me, but at least it's calorie-free!". I've been trying to avoid soda altogether but it's so tough cause I'm not a big fan of sugar in drinks. I tend to order sugar-free lattes, etc. Earlier this summer I was up to 3 cans a day. Real bad.
The whole diet soda image is just so alluring- think back to Flashdance with the Diet Soda product placement...but ultimately I don't think any soda is ideal, sugar-laden or sugar-free. |

| Thanks for all of the suggestions. The reason I posted this topic in the first place is because for the past year or so I've been having significant problems with constipation, gas and painful bloating. I've also noticed that when I eat foods lately, they seem to upset my stomach further. I had intentions of trying some sort of colon cleanser, regardless of skeptics, but I still wanted to hear what people had to say about it. Thanks for all the great advice. I really appreciate the feedback and helpful information. | |||

| I saw Jessica Simpson on Jay Leno a few weeks back and she mentioned something about diet soda being bad for getting rid of cellulite. Not that she's the most reliable source of info...
But soda (or pop) is not good for your body. It has no nutrients and also deteriorates your bones. Plus it has no nutritional value. It's also can clean toilets... Why does it have to taste so good?? ...everything in moderation, right? |

| Tips: Don't give up! Nothing about weight loss is instant if you really want your results to last in the long-term.
About my Christmas goal: I should make my Christmas weight!Right now I'm at 160. About a month and half ago I started working out 4-6 times a week for the first time in a year. I also started doing weight training and drinking whey protein shakes so I gained about 8 lbs and was so frustrated. This week I finally started losing! My muscles are finally helping my metabolism! I'm losing about 1.75 pounds a week...Christmas is in about 10 weeks...that should bring me close to 140! Even if I don't get there, I've already lost inches and that's what counts more than the scale. |

| A week or so ago I posted something about the Subway Diet and the Special K diet and got some pretty negative feedback. But I've decided I'm going to try the Special K diet for myself this week and see what happens. I just like the whole idea of planning my meals out! | |||
| Weight Loss | What is wrong with me? Working hard but no weight loss! | Oct 19 2006 06:03 (UTC) |

| Um, I've been having the same problem. I've been working really hard for the past 2 months and haven't lost any weight. Instead I gained 5 pounds! But it may be because I incorporated weight lifting 3 times a week into my workouts.
Question: How much do you gain when you start to build muscle and do you ever get to a point when you stop gaining??? |

| Weight Loss | Subway diet or Special K Diet? | Oct 07 2006 03:07 (UTC) |

| Thanks for all the great advice! Although Special K (especially Vanilla Almond) is delicious I never even thought that it might get boring. And as for Subway, I never thought about the costs. I guess it's realistic to think that doing the Special K or Subway diet for a little while then eating normally again would not be a good idea. Thanks for all the great advice!
P.S. I wonder how Jared managed to stick with Subway for so long day after day after day. |
