Grow a mint plant!! Seriously, I know it sounds silly, but it's veru common for middle eastern and indian cultures to eat mint following thier meals, for this very reason. I'm not on a veggie diet, but I do try and eat all veggie meals a couple of times a week. I had the same problem until I was looking in an Egytian cookbook that mentioned uses of mint. I tried eating a few sprigs after a meal and it did the trick.

I try to look at my flatulance in a possitive light........it means my diet is working........LOL!!! Thanks goodness my family is in the same boat. Hubby says "The family that farts together is forced to stay together!!"

Beans beans, the musical fruit..........

Hmmmmmm.......I did that a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't really a "Day Off" as much as it was dinner out with my family and I ordered what I wanted.

HK, if you like Greek food, we have a terrific restaurant in Ashburn called "Mediterranean Breeze"....I think there's one in Herndon too.....anyway, back on topic. I ordered a calorie rich appetizer and entree. Here's the strange part, I couldn't finish it! Not only that, it made me feel ill to the point that I had to lay down when I got home. Bottom line, my body didn't appreciate the jolt of overly rich food. The next day I went back to my food, the way I like it, simply prepared with just the right seasoning. Thanks for posting this, it prooves that our bodies (and taste buds) know what they're doing!

Hi there, thanks so much for posting this information! I'm going to see my doctor in the next couple of weeks and ask him about this. Don't worry, I see this as more of a relief to know this information

Interestingly enough, labor was completely opposite for me. Our daughter was almost two weeks late and was a very loooong, 15 hour induced labor. The drug they gave me, petocin (sp) was very slow to work and my water actually had to be broken, she wasn't going anywhere! I've often wondered if this somehow contributed to her epilepsy? On the flip side, this might explain why I'm so terrified of the dentist!

Once again, I'm so glad I found this site! Thank you so much for your help, I'll keep you informed in the fututre.

I rated the maximum nine points. When I stretch, the palms of my hands actually stop me, I could go further!

I also had a look around the site and was shocked by what I read. I'm 31 years old and I already have mild arthritis in my left knee and moderate in my right. This is one of the reasons I'm not to keen on running. I also have arthritis in my right shoulder and have dislocated my right elbow (painful) doing a very simple excercise (this was several years ago).  It doesn't end there, I've dislocated three fingers in my life and often have a stiff neck. The situation with my knee has gotton to the point where my doctor wants to do an MRI, but I've lived like this for so long that it doesn't even really bother me as much, except for the crunching sensation I get when I'm doing lunges. Heck, my husband even calls me "Squeeky Knees". I've always just thought I was accident prone and attributed my soreness to needing a new mattress!

No doctor has ever even mentioned this to me! Please, if you have more information through personal experience I would like to hear. I'm down right gob-smacked!
Weight Loss Never enough protein....Help! Aug 10 2006

I've made a couple of adjustments in the last couple of weeks. One has been to eat more protein in the morning, i really help my appetite for the rest of the afternoon. Kashi GO Lean has a good amount of protein. Egg Beaters are great as is cottage cheese. Sometimes I'll make an omlett out of eggbeaters and whatever meat I have leftover from the night before with some veggies. Delicious, packed with protein and filling!

Not true thinbride...... Pork chops!! Loin, sirloin (or top loin) porkchops are excellent! They can be high in cholesteral, so if you plan have one take that into account with whatever else you eat during the day. I think a good cut of porkchop actually rates an A- on this site.

Thank you so much! I've gotton so much conflicting information on this it's not funny. Some say you don't need to stretch because your tendons are already loose, others say don't worry about it. I tried not worrying about it, stretched too hard and wound up with a swollen knee for the next two days. What you said makes great sense, particulary not inciting the knee to snap back. Have you ever tried strtching while on the ground? I have no idea how to go about this. One advantage I do have, I'm super flexible!

Thanks for your help!

Ruthie74.......good for you about the antidepressants! While I would never criticize anyone for taking them, they're hard on your body. Postpardom is the pitts, I used to cry at laundy detergent commercials.......LOL! Good for you for finding your way through!

Oh, there were a lot of things! However, the pivital moment for me was when my mother had a heart attack that put her in ICU for two weeks and ended with a tripple bypass.......and she's not even overweight! Mum had her first heart attack when she was 26 and pregnant with my sister, it was touch and go there for a while but they both pulled through. She's 62 now and is recovering nicely, but it's still hard. We have a congenital heart condition in my family, our arteries are too narrow which in turn leaves us highly susceptible to blockage. Her father died when he was 35 (my mother was 10) and his mother died when she was 29.

It struck me when I was in the waiting room and the Doctor asked if I was having my cholesteral checked regularly. I realized that I wasn't taking care of myself and if I didn't do something about it, I was only a matter of time that I would suffer the same fate as my mother. Crazy isn't it, we think we're invincible.......I want to be invincible!

Weight Loss Would Like to know what you've learned about Yourself...... Aug 10 2006

Darn......this thread made me think too hard.

OK, I'm going to be serious for a moment. I learned that food wasn't the answer, that it was a cover....like a drug; a temporary fix that would have to constantly be replenished. I learned that instead of reaching for something to eat when I was sad, I had to aknowledge that perhaps there was something else there, something that no matter how many calories I fed it, it would still be hungry. Finally, I acknowledged that there were things in my life that I couldn't control and to stop wallowing in self pity because my life is also shared with my family.

I learned how to love myself and not feel responsible for every last  thing that goes wrong.

I've learned that eating a date can kill almost any craving I have for cake icing.

I've learned NOT to try and drink 70ozs of water all at once.

I've learned (or rather my family has told me) that through eating well and excercising your not as cranky in the morning!

I've learned how to get my butt out of bed and make my family breakfast (they suffered so!) while simutaneoulsy learning how to eat breakfast, something I hadn't done in 20 years!

I've learned how to JUST SAY NO to the "Table of Death" at work!

I've learned that if I do cheat, not to do it at home and don't bring it home.

IMPORTANT!!! I've learned that what we do as adults has a direct effect on our children. It's a nice feeling when you see your child reach for a piece of fruit or go outside to pick a fresh tomato off the vive it she needs a snack.

I've learned that we all need to cheat sometimes and that deprivation is just as dangerous as starvation.  Moderation is the game.

and finally.......I've learned that if you eat Kashi Go Lean, you better have TP in the cart as well!

Christen.......he is a bit strange, no doubt. I sometimes still laugh at his hair and shaven legs....LOL! But......I used to be in the Army and never got the results I've gotten from him. The excercises are just as the title suggests, simple! I have his six pack abs video as well. It's a hoot because he keeps getting up after each excercise to look at HIS six pack in the mirror. Not complaining though, it gives you a 30 second breather.

I'd rather have a couple of cookies at the end of each successful week as opposed to eating an ENTIRE tube of dough AFTER I reached my goal.

John Basedow's Fitness made Simple "Basedow's Basics".

You only need one set of weights.......I alternate between 7 and 10 lbs. You start out with stretching, then move to upper body with pushups variations and weights. Lower body included lunges, squats and over & under duos w/ and without weights. Finally, he has a six minute ab workout. It's simple.....I mean SIMPLE to follow, takes about 40 minutes and you really do see results within the first two weeks. I highly recommend this video!

I'll see if I can find a link........
Weight Loss metabolic types vs calories Aug 09 2006

As I understand this, there is a test which tells you if you are if your metbolism is a "Protein" "Carb" or "Mixed Protein/Carb"

Mixed suggests that you should have 30% protein, 20% fat and 50% carb which is actually a healthy proportion.

You should use the "tools" feature to help you figure out your daily calorie needs and take it from there.

I got one of those things........it was a disaster for chopping anything firm. I tried to grate cheese and just wound up with a chuck of cheese stuck on the middle.

It works great for soft foods, like tomato salsa, but hard foods.......ugggggh!

I like to every now and then use one of those Instant Lipton Tea packets that you drop in a bottle of water. It's sweetened with Splenda and the lemon flavored ones taste great! Actually, they really help kill any sugar cravings I might be having.

Of course it counts!! Everyone should have a little cocoa in thier cabinet!

Try putting cinnamon in some lentils or fava beans. I love cinnamon on lamb, it's great added to lemon and garlic....it gives an interesting flavor that leaves people guessing.

This is going to sound awful......but eat the chocolate. Here's what I do when I get an unbearable craving at that time of the month. I buy a little bag of M&M's to eat during the course of the day and make an adjustment in calories elsewear. I little won't hurt, but if you deprive yourself, you'll just want it even more!
