Hungrygirl raved about them in one of their newsletters. They even provided some recipes. You can probably get them in their archives. I'm in California and Henry's also has tem.
Weight Loss Anyone over 50 on here? Sep 11 2006

Hi, I'm 52 and I've lost 21 pounds since early June. I was having a problem losing too. I was eating a lean cuisine for lunch every day and I thought I was doing myself a favor. (think it was too much salt). Ate lots of processed foods -- could have been my problem. Even counting calories was difficult. Now I eat mostly fresh food i.e. 3 fruits, 4 veggies, protein (2), starch (2), dairy (1), fat (1) and 8 glasses of fluids (not even all water-- at least 5 of water and the other fluids of teas, coffees and a soda on occasion. I count a glass of wine as fruit! but only on occasion. I use the site mostly to measure my weightloss and read all of your great posts. Sometimes its tough with only 2 starch i.e., two breads so I go ahead and have a third, but try not to go over board with any of the portions. This has forced me to eat healthier, lots of salads, homemade food (lots of grilled chicken, fish, even steak), grilled veggies lots of fruit etc. Eating out has also become easier. I'm feeling pretty good but my BMI is still measuring as slightly overweight. I'm 5'9" and I'm told that I carry my weight well (in other words-- that I don't show my weight) I would like to be in the healthy range but would need to lose 10-15 more pounds. We'll see. Good luck and good health to all of you.

I am finally able to join the 180's. This morning I weighted 186.4. I am also 5'9" (noticed some of you on this thread are the same height) and friends and family are beginning to notice that I am losing! yeah!! This is a long thread (as opposed to the 190's), interesting. Maybe the 190's aren't many or just don't feel like chatting. Glad I'm here.
Foods Japanese food - healthiest option Aug 12 2006

at my favorite japanese restaurant they have a 18 pack of california rolls, spicey tuna rolls and cucumber rolls. It is very satisfying and not high in calories. That way you don't have to worry about the rice, but if you have to have chicken-- grilled teriyaki chicken is good with your white steamed rice. Sounds like a good time. If you like beer, have a cold one too!
Foods Trader Joes? Aug 08 2006

Their prepared salads are good too. They turn over so fast at my store that you don't have to worry about the food getting bad (I would complain to the home office if the food is sketchy because they take pride in their goods). A bad Trader Joe's -- that's unheard of. Maybe they need a better manager.
Foods Rice Krispies Aug 08 2006

They may not be high in fiber but they are lower in calories and you don't break the bank by adding nuts and fruit. Recently I picked  up a container of dried fruit (apples, raisins, blueberries, sour cherries, mango, pineapple and raspberries) called Organic Just Fruit Munchies at the local health food store and it went great with my Rice Krispies. Try it.

Motivation I was challenged! Aug 04 2006

Thanks for your good vibes. I did very well this week. Tomorrow is my last day and I don't have to worry about lunch since the conference only goes until noon. They are giving a breakfast but it is optional and I will pass! I was surprised, I was able to get in all of my water too-- but no walking. Tomorrow is another day.

Jinxozzie--  hang in there. I was feeling just like you for a while (about 2.5 weeks and I finally moved to 189! I was getting so frustrated and I changed my calorie intake by 200-250 two days. It did the trick. Don't give up, it will change and then you're off with another challenge.

Good for you. Sometimes we do need something hot. If I have leftovers in the fridge they also make it in the broth (1/2 cup rice, or noodles or green beans)

thanks for the tip. I would add a roll or a baked potato to complete the meal. Yes, it is a bit high in sodium but I usually don't eat much more with that much sodium throughout the day.

Cooking Light Magazine on the web had these recipes, the zucchini chips sound good similar to the zucchini brownie mentioned above is the chocolate zucchini cake. Yum. I don't have zucchini but the store is down the street. Maybe I'll make something today.

If you can't make a fist, you are retaining an extraordinary amount of water. If I were you, I would make an appt. with your doctor. That type of retention can mean problems. Have you been taking a new medicine? antibiotics? eating lots of sodium?

Nothing wrong with veggies and fruits (I do 4 veggies and 3 fruits a day) but you need to get in the rest of the food (protein, calcium, fat (yes fat) and grains). If you are having a soccer tournament, now is the time to get some carbs in your system. I'm not a nutritionist but check with your coach. I'm sure they would give you some smart advise on what to eat before your tournament.

The reason they are so moist is because they are loaded with fat. That was nice of them to provide you with the nutritional value, the coffee place (not starbucks) near me doesn't have the nutritional value so I stopped buying food there.

Pistachios! OMG I figured since I was ridding myself of the shell I could eat more. Now I count out the number I'm eating and I'm done. I don't go back for more. Yes, portion control is the key. Also with leftovers. If it was a healthy meal I felt that it was okay to have another serving. Not anymore!

Welcome to the newbies. I don't think it will make that much of a difference with age. There are all ages and we all have the same problem! We all need to lose some weight. The forums have a lot of answers and ideas and the food log is user friendly. Good luck.

lupelmic: good luck. Keep us posted. TO ALL 190's MEMBERS: Instead of leaving the 190's club when we are successful, why don't we stay together and enjoy our successes. Wouldn't it be more motivating to get tips and extra motivation from those of us that are experiencing the same things? I know that people graduate to the 180's but we lose touch and we don't gain anything from those that are losing successfully. What do you all think?

I got mine at Walmart. They have the full array from really cheap to very high tech. I bought the one with the computer program and I don't even use it. I only use it to see the amount of calories and distance.

Pistachios, almonds, cashews all in moderation and they keep me from getting hungry and devouring the fridge when I'm hungry and it's not dinner time.

In the 70's (yes, I'm showing my age) a good friend of mine was a health nut and fasted regularly (juice fasts). She looked great at the time but I then ran in to her in the 80's and had gained a tremendous amount of weight. I know everyone has given their two cents already but I would like to add, just be careful. For what it's worth, I do believe it can do some damage to your metabolism.
