I just finished doing 4 weeks of a 1000 cal deficit a day - I did loose a bit - but I was skiing like a mad woman too.

Here is a little more info on me!  I'm a 33 year old paramedic with 70 lbs to loose.  I have lost 65 lbs already by cutting my calories down to about 1200 a day.  I cross country ski 10km a day in the winter months 4 days a week.  That burns over 1000 cal for me, it toned me up but I ate more to compensate and didn't loose much weight.  Now that the ski season is wrapping up I have to get my eating back under control.  I work for a quiet service and most days I don't get a lot of activity at work.  So 1200 cals is about a 1000 cal daily deficit for me.

I think my "plateau" was mainly Christmas and some major muscle building from skiing.

I know a highly educated woman who had a bypass done spring of 2005.  She lost around 80 lbs and hasn't lost anything else since.  If a person dosen't deal with why they overeat a bypass isn't going to fix anything in the long run.  Its just a matter of time and she will slip back into her old habits.  I can totally understand you being jealous - I would feel the same way.  But your right you are doing it the right way - forever and keeping your money at the same time.  What she did could affect her for her entire life with complications - now she has to live with that.

Songchild - I adopted your idea a few weeks ago when you first started writing down your daily goals.  I have a paper journal that I use everyday and they are on the top of my page.  I don't always get them all checked off - but I have finally mastered drinking my water.  That has been a goal I have struggled with!  Thanks!!!!!!

Catsy22 - I am totally in the same boat as you.  I am 5'9" - I weight 245 and I have been really working hard the past 2.5 weeks.  I have been eating between 1200-1300 cal and excercising as much as possible. I work 12 hour shifts so I find it hard to exercise everyday but on my days off I do 1 hr cardio and 1 hr of pilates.  I know I should be doing weight lifting but I haven't brought myself to start that yet.   The first week I lost 5 pounds but since then the scale hasn't moved.  I am noticing a difference in my clothes though - but I would feel better seeing it on the scale.  My goal weight is 160 too.

I have lost 70 lbs.  I started last Aug changing my bad eating habits one at a time.  I only started cc 13 weeks ago.

My motivation is my kids, husband and my job.  The hardest thing for me is still night time snacking and cravings.

I still have 60lbs to go - I hope to be there by next summer.

Slow and steady wins the race!!!

Congratulations for hitting 51lbs!

Kat - I totally know exactly how you feel.  I too am a health care professional and have the knowledge to loose weight - but why can't I seem to do it.  WHY!!!!  I felt like that too. Am I weak - stupid?   I think part of my problem was making a plan that involved too many changes and failing on day one because I couldn't do it all.  A year ago now I picked one bad habit and worked on it.  Then added another and the ball just kept rolling.  Now I have lost 70lbs.

Pick the eating habit that makes you feel the worst about yourself and work on changing it - you'll feel good about yourself again!
