Weight Loss Swimming and Treadmill? Oct 24 2007

read something in the fitness forum about increasing the treadmill incline to 1% to reduce impact on joints.  flat seems to be the equivalent of walking slightly downhill which is hard on the joints/knees.

what bothers me is the seemingly never ending encroachment, management, regulation of our lives.

in 2008 a hospital will start docking the paychecks of overweight employees and people who smoke.  Eating and smoking are both legal in this Country (US).

In one city in Oregon I think, they passed a regulation requiring parents to pay for an apartment and medical insurance of any minor child who decides they don't like the ground rules at home and moves out.  The child does not have to be emancipated, just has to defy their parents.

CSP can invade any home in the Country and rip children from the home on a complaint. Prior to investigation.

Now, we have a regulation where a neighbor can complain about what you do in your own home, behind closed doors.

I don't get it and I don't get why people don't see the successive loss of personal freedoms.  Where does it end?   Before you are provoked enough to disagree?

Weight Loss Do people generally look down on fat/ overweight people? Sep 20 2007

yeah, some people make a sport out of ridiculing the overweight or obese person.  This makes me ill.

To me, they are more ignorant than the person who struggles with being obese.  They are "fatheaded" ignorant derrieres.

Seriously.  With up to 60 - 65% of people now overweight or obese in the US... how this continues is beyond me.  Everyone is probably related to someone or friends with.

Obesity is so completely mis-characterized, mis-understood and so harshly judged, that there is a failure to provide adequate medical care and facilities (oh excuse me, let me go get a bigger BP cuff.  why didn't you bring it with you? as you sit in a chair for a child's body)

Some day, people need to stand together and say enough.  Draw the line in the sand, speak up and say "we are not going to take your judgemental bs crap anymore" ~ just as had to be done for women's rights by the suffragettes, by workers for unions, by the African-Americans to end the Jim Crow laws, by the Gays who are struggling for equal rights under the law...

Utter BS.

is combivent also a non-steroid?

the pharmacy said he would just call it in and get it switched over through the docs office.  but... the pro-air was expensive and was just wondering what alternatives people are using.

i may go to the doctors but it's like $200 just to see him and if it's just going to switch to pro-air as the only choice, i might as well do it through the renew process through the pharmacist.

i HATE when they discontinue meds that work.  It has happened several times, and it usually means they will come out with an OTC version (zantac, claritin, sudafed, mucinex, advil, naproxen).  but, there's a gap which leaves us up the creek unless we switch to another scrip

it doesn't have any magic weight loss properties.  it does not help you lose fat. no food does that.  the way to lose weight is eat less and move more.  keep a deficit.  the way to reduce body fat is exercise so you gain muscles.

choosing low calorie foods with fiber fills us up better than say a cup of ice cream!  and veggies are a good source of those vitamins and minerals, anti-oxidants etc (nutrition)
