| Pregnancy & Parenting | Do you have a "hippie" name? | Mar 19 2009 17:18 (UTC) |
22 |
Hey, I know a Penny Lane. She lives 2 doors down from me. Her mothers name is Jenny Lane. Just consider nicknames. My name is Erin so around every St. Patricks Day, instead of "Erin Go Bragh" (Long live Ireland), people say "Erin go bra-less" to me. It was totally gross when an old man did that to me. Ugh! Other than that, I'm not really into hippie names. I like the strong sounding names like Jackson or Julie. |

| Health & Support | help on being regular while traveling | Mar 12 2009 11:44 (UTC) |

I went to the Caribbean last month and I had intestinal issues for 2 weeks when I got back. I normally eat pretty healthy and while on vacation, I thought I ate healthy then too, especially with the amount of fruits available. When I got back, I was bloated, crampy and had diarrhea. I finally went to the dr. after 12 days and they did x-rays. I guess I was just backed up and had lots of gas. The dr. told me to take Benefiber. I asked if I should just get fiber in food and she said no because the yuckiness made me lose my appetite. She also said not to take any gas relief tablets. I only took it for a day; I got back to normal on my own. Make sure you drink lots of water and continue to get fiber in your diet. Sometimes, as travelers, you can do everything right in the world and it's the change of environment that has the biggest impact. |

| Health & Support | my body's going out of control - rapid weight gain?? | Mar 09 2009 20:42 (UTC) |
|
Instead of taking a diuretic, why not just drink some water? It sounds counter-productive but it can help flush out sodium in your body and is good for your overall health. You could have iced or hot tea as well. Stay hydrated and relax. Maybe do some pilates or relaxation yoga. That may help to calm you down. My body gets all flakey too when taking different birth controls. The Depo shot was horrible for me but great for other women. Just give yourself some time to let your body adjust. If it's still being flakey or for your own piece of mind, go see your doctor. Heck, it would be a good excuse to get an annual physical. |

You made a drastic change and that usually comes with a price. Gas and bloating is a normal side effect of switching over from junk food to the healthier food that you're eating. Give it some time... In the meantime, drink lots of fluid, like water and tea. Peppermint tea is supposed to help settle digestion issues. Try taking Gas-X and consider a stool softener instead of a laxative. |

It reminded me of corn too. Pretty harmless but I don't think I've ever had edamame so I can't say for certain. |

Yeah, your body is probably just adjusting to it. If it happens for 2-3 months, talk to your dr. and they may be be able to change your dosage or give you a different brand. It's usually no biggie except it's a pain in the butt. |

| Health & Support | Abnormal pap UPDATE! | Feb 26 2009 20:08 (UTC) |
5 |
Ok, so your pap is abnormal but your hpv test is negative still? Just getting it straight... I just found a wart on my ummm, ya' know. I just got married to the same guy I was seeing for the last 3 years and have only had unprotected sex with him and my previoius husband. Let me tell you, it was totally scary and gross. My dr. said it's HPV even though I tested negative for it last April. She said it doesn't mean my guy was unfaithful...it could have been dormant in either one of us for a long time. Also, it's treatable. Anyway, don't make yourself crazy over these things. I know it's hard because of where it's at but you've gotta wait until the results come back. You've got your youth and previous negative paps on your side. You're a smart cookie to even get your annual paps done because a lot of women put it off. Keep us posted. |

I've poured some olive oil in a gallon sized ziploc bag and put one on each foot. I rubber banded it and put socks over them. Don't walk around too much because you can poke a hole in the bag. Worked great for me. Also, I got one of thoe Ped Egg knock offs. It's got a file on one side which looks more like a cheese grater, And a soft emery file on the other side. You could try that if it's not the same thing as the razor that you were talking about. |

| The Lounge | Moving out? | Feb 25 2009 11:26 (UTC) |

Yeah, I would wait too. Save, save, save and pay your debt back. Go to school if you have the opportunity. As you're saving, keep an eye on the housing and rental market. You'll have time to see plenty of houses and can wait for the perfect one to come around and you won't have the same money issues. By the time you're ready to move, maybe you can get a place by yourself and have a chunk of money for a down payment...who knows? If your pal moves on his/her own, maybe you'll have a place to hang out every now and then. Your responsibilities at this age alone are helping to develop your independence from mom and dad. Just work towards it by checking off your smaller goals and getting yourself into a stable financial place. |

| The Lounge | Online Dating??? A curse? | Feb 18 2009 21:00 (UTC) |

I met my guy through a social networking group. It wasn't online though. It was a small office a few miles away that put together activitites and anyone can go...mostly singles, but some couples. I signed up to go the local brewery and take a bus to a baseball game and back to the brewery. I figured if I didn't meet anyone, I would still have a good time. It's a good way to meet people in person. I actually met a lot of people; guys and girls (as friends, of course). We got married a couple of weeks ago. I would suggest something like that, if you have the time. I went alone because if I went with a girlfriend, we might have been glued to eachother and I wouldn't have met anyone. If you're in the Detroit area, it's called The Social Connection. Anywhere else? I would suggest looking in your local paper for articles. Online dating? I would have given it a shot too. Go for it but be safe. |

Yeah, I would take advantage of the fresh fruits available...then again, I love fruit anyway so no problem there. I'm leaving for my honeymoon on Monday and since I'll be exercising like crazy, I'm not too concerned about calories. I'll tackle it when I get home. Just busy yourself and go swimming and hiking and walking and you'll be all right. |

I can't answer all of your questions because I simply don't know. You're getting 1400 calories and exercising for an hour a day? You may need to eat more. Plug in your stats and see what CC recommends. The pill can be a funny thing for some people Give it time to get out of your system. I don't know about a diuretic but make sure you drink enough water. It should help flush out any sodium-caused fluid retention and hydrate your insides. If it were me...I might wait another month before seeing a doctor. I know you want to nip it in the bud, but if you try your other solutions, you'll be able to have even more evidence to take to your doctor. In the meantime, write down your exercise, your food intake, weight, and how you feel and take that into your doc. |

Considering it takes an hour to get to work by bus, she must live kind of far away....maybe a bike would do it. I used to work 6-2:30 and I would sometimes walk on my 30 minute lunch break. I would just eat while I was working if I could. You might be able to find a walkin' buddy too. You could do the squat/lunge thing while preparing dinner or brushing your teeth. Other than getting up earlier to get a workout in, I can't think of much more. |

If I'm reading your question correctly, I really want to know about heaven and hell. How is it that there is a general definition of these two places? Who would be able to speak of these things? Then again, maybe I don't want to know....I'm content with telling myself that my loved ones have moved on to a better place. |

I'm with you...I don't like anything mushy. Thank goodness I'll be on my honeymoon on V-Day!! Here's some other ideas:
If either of you aren't really in to V-Day, how about you tell him that you don't want to make a big deal about it. Some guys are relieved, some want to take the chance to be romantic.. Heads up: he might still do something for you because when we tell them "let's not do anything", they think we'll be mad if they don't bring us anything. |

I believe it to an extent... To me, vine ripened tomatoes are better than hot house tomatoes. But the Farmers Market ones taste THE BEST! I try to always buy my produce at the local farmers market. It's great because it's in season and fresh. Not all vendors there grow organically. |

| Weight Loss | Losing weight for a wedding? | Jan 30 2009 15:06 (UTC) |
|
Original Post by triffid2002: My wedding is NEXT weekend! Eek! I was in the same dilemma. I lost a few pounds before I ordered my dress. Once it was ordered, I lost a little bit more. I went in for my fitting when the dress came in and maintained that weight since. I still have some weight to lose...actually quite a bit but I figured I looked awesome in my dress anyway so who gives a crap if I'm still chubby? It seems like most of these weddings are in spring and summer. You need to be extra careful because it's the busy time of year. Have a backup plan, like an independent seamstress in case the one at the bridal shop gets backlogged. Also, Spanx can be your new best friend. |

Same thing happens to me sometimes. Today, I went out shopping and I was really itchy but I think it was the material of my pants. I noticed that if I don't exercise in a really long time, when I start back up, I get the itchies. I thought it was because of my fat jiggling around because it calms down the more in shape I get. You could try switching to a different laundry soap and see how it goes. |

A long time ago, there was construction on a new mall in our area. They had a huge pile of dirt and debris on the site. We would drive by and everyone would say "Hey look, there's a bear on the hill". I would look over and they would say "Aww. you just missed it." They did it again and again and I never saw the bear. When I had a sore throat, I would tell my mom "it hurts when I gulp". (instead of swallow) |
