| Weight Loss | Meridia and Doctor prescribed me to eat UNDER 1200 cals a day... | Nov 04 2009 23:15 (UTC) |

I'd agree, get another opinion. But in the doctor's defense, and as a suggestion for the second opinion, be honest! if the doctor thinks you are "trying" try eat 1600 and work out 2-3 times means you missed it once or twice in 6 months, and your "trying" reall means you hit it onces or twice in 6 months, the doc may think you have a slower metabolism, etc. if you have averaged 1800 say so. if you worked out once a week or less, say so. they need to know the true starting point. |

Also, depending on your climate, you may still wear shorts. You will find that your legs stay quite warm, and I have run in shorts in the 40s without freezing :) Especially if you are not going to be out for a looooong time. I often run in shorts, a technical shirt and a light windbreaker and a cap. have a pair of gloves in the jacket pocket in case my hands get cold... |

Original Post by safina1: Why "one day"? Why not today? What are you waiting for? It doesn't have to be a New Year's resolution or anything. Just stop buying the stuff. Maybe don't go cold turkey, but cut way back. Make it a friday treat. Just stopping cupcakes but replacing them with something else daily is not going to help. but cutting down to once a week gives you the benefits, but without the "i'll never have another cupcake?!?!?!" thoughts. Once a week you get a treat. One. Not gorge-yourself-on-sugar-friday! The cravings will fade and some friday you won't even want a cupcake. hooray. Log your calories. Then you start to realize the "cost" of a piece of cake. I don't eat candy bars much anymore because each one costs me two miles of running. I would rather those two miles worked off some weight than just cancelled out another candy bar. |

| Young Calorie Counters | If I went 140 calories over my limit one day, will it impact my weight loss? | Sep 30 2009 16:42 (UTC) |

well, if you went 140 cals over your goal, and are still under your burn, it might very slightly decrease your weight loss. but since 3500 calories = 1 pound you are talking about 1/20 of a pound. the only way to gain 4 pounds in one day is water weight. And you seem very tightly wound about this, you might want to relax a little and get some perspective. otherwise you may be on the road to eating disorders. Final thought. young people grow, and this causes weight gain. |

Original Post by ilovetwins: Sorry to hear about your situation, and I'll just toss in a few bits. The "going on strike" idea is just being passive aggressive. Instead of just letting it sit there and listening to him complain, ask him to please pick it up. Be polite but firm. Don't yell or complain back, that just makes it a fight. It sounds like he has had these bad habits for years, and you have let them continue. Don't expect behaviour to change overnight. It will take time and you being firm too. Work with him and make a plan to divide up chores, so he can see what you do, and what you are asking of him. Hope the suggestions help some...

I don't know the full details of your situation, but I don't think her comment is along the lines of "you're eating a whole cake", more like "you are not eating enough to live on" i know the miniumum anyone should be eating is 1200 cals a day, so if you make that 3 meals and a snack, you should be at 300 cals a meal, not 65. and then more if you exercise, or are larger, etc. i'm not saying you are under-eating, maybe you graze all day? but to someone who see's you eat that small amount of food as a "meal", it would look abnormal. 65 cals is not even half a snack for me! i would starve. |

woohoo! you got the fight going here! first, if god didn't want us to eat all those innocent cows, why did he fill them with meat? But more importantly to you, perhaps you are craving meat because you are lacking a nutrient it provides? not enough protein? or something more specific...red meat is high in iron? perhaps fill the void and the meat cravings go away?

| Weight Loss | Is there such thing as negitive cals... | Mar 04 2009 17:27 (UTC) |
|
just to throw more fuel on the "negative calorie" fire.... I would imagine it depends how much you eat, since the incremental cost of digestion probably decreases. ie it takes the same enegry to digest 1 stalk of celery as ten, so eatint 1 stalk might be 5 calories, and cost 10 to digest. but eating 5 stalks now is 25, but still only 10 to digest. so if you are going to try to lose weight by eating massive amounts of "negative" calorie food, it probably won't work so well :) |

| Health & Support | Natural way to quit smoking? | Feb 24 2009 15:38 (UTC) |

Of course it is. Ask anyone who quit before we had all those medications. All the patches/drugs/etc are just ways to try to make it easier. Looking for the quick/easy fix. Just like all the diet products are to make it quick/easy to lose weight. But if you are hear learning to lose weight the healthy way, good old fashion effort to eat right, exercise more, I would think that stopping smoking would be similar. Good old fashioned will power, sensibilty cut back more and more until you are off them. another lifestyle change. gradual improvement. |

| Weight Loss | Would i gain weight if i eat a 1000 calorie pancake every saturday? | Feb 23 2009 22:06 (UTC) |
5 |
sounds to me like you haven't been paying attention to the info on the site. it is not about restricting. it is about eating a balanced diet, and keeping the total calories consumed < the total calories burned. so, eat a 1000 calorie pancake. unless you are over 3500 calories more than you burn that day (about 2000+), you won't gain a pound. read some of the general posts to get a better idea. Short answer: no, you wont gain on a pancake a week. |

two weeks may not have been enough to see a difference. you only lose a pound or two a week in healthy weightloss. that could easily be shadowed by water-weight gain which can fluctuate by 5 pounds daily. or muscle gain from the working out. don't lose hope. |

WOuld you have the option of aphorisis (or however it is spelled) instead of just taking a pint, they hook you up to a machine, and take only the cells they need, and put the fluid/plasma back. IE, you can donate just platelets, or platelets + red blood cells. It isn't at all locations, and it takes a lot longer (up to 2 hours, depending what you donate) but might let you give without passing out :) |

have you tried adding running to your activity log?
ie, running 6mph for 30 minutes is probably a little over 300 cals depending on your height and weight. So you just eat an additional 300 cals that day. |
